Yesterday we began our big write of the snail’s diary. If you didn’t start
yesterday, look back to yesterday’s work to start your task.
Today I would like you to complete your diary entry.
Once we have completed our writing, we need to read our work back out loud
and edit it. Editing work is where we spot any mistakes and correct them,

Re-read the example of the snails diary again…
Tuesday 2nd January 2021. Dear Diary,
Today has been the most amazing day! This morning I was sitting on the black rock looking out at the sea and wondering what is out there. I was feeling fed up. I was so bored with looking at the same rock day after day. Then suddenly I had a brainwave! I decided to use my snail slime to write a message on the rock saying ‘Lift wanted around the world’.
A little while later, I looked out over the bay when I saw an enormous grey blue humpback whale swimming towards me! He told me his tales of his trips around the world. He told me about the shimmering ice and coral caves, shooting stars and enormous waves. I climbed onto his tail and he swam away into the vast, mysterious sea.
First we sailed to a far off land where the air was freezing and I could see my breath. There were towering icebergs and hundreds of black and white penguins sliding into the sea and waddling on the ice.
Please remember to use neat
handwriting, correct punctuation,
and good vocabulary choices- use
adjectives to describe what you
see. Say your sentences out loud
so that they make sense.

What have you learned today?
What do you know now, that you didn’t know at the
start of the lesson?
What have you found challenging?
Science
• This half term we began by learning about living things. We found out
what all living things have or can do- the characteristics of living
things.
• Today I would like to see what you have learned.
• First we will do a concept map just like we did at the start of the topic.
• These questions might give you some ideas about what to include on
your concept map…
▪ How can you work out if something is alive?
▪ If a car moves, “eats” petrol and gives out exhaust gases, why isn’t it alive? If a clock moves and makes a noise, why isn’t it alive? etc.
▪ How do you know a plant is alive?
▪ What do living things do?
▪ What is special about things that are alive?
▪ What is the difference between something that was alive and something that has never been
