1st Reading: Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24 Death entered the world through the work of the devil.

2nd Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:7,9,13-15 As Christ became poor for our sake, so must we share with those in need from our abundance.

Gospel Reading: Mark 5:21-43 (shorter form, Mark 5:21-24,35b-43) Jesus heals a woman afflicted with a hemorrhage and raises Jairus’s daughter from death.

• July 11, 2021 - A Banquet in the Inner Garden Greek and Hebrew, and who also famously referred to More as a man for all seasons. Above all their accomplishments, these men bore witness to a deep faith in Christ and his Church. More considered joining religious life and was .assiduous in his devotional practic-es. As a married man, he committed himself wholly to his vocation as a father. At the time, disciplinary practices with children tended to be severe, but More’s children testify to his

warmth, patience, and generosity.

St. John Fisher was a model shepherd and demonstrated remarkable humility. He re-mained in the small Diocese of Rochester his entire episcopal ministry, devoting himself to his local church rather than seeking promotion to a larger, more powerful diocese.

More and Fisher are well-known for op-posing King Henry’s divorce. Ultimately, it was The USCCB began Religious Freedom

Week on June 22, the day when the Church celebrates the feast day of Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher.

St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher were Renaissance men. Talented and ener-getic, they contributed to the humanist schol-arship of early modern England. More wrote theological and philosophical treatises, while making a career as a lawyer and government official. Bishop John Fisher worked as an ad-ministrator at Cambridge, confronted the chal-lenge Martin Luther presented to Christian Europe, and most importantly served as Bish-op of Rochester. As a bishBish-op, he is notable for his dedication to preaching at a time when bishops tended to focus on politics. These men were brilliant. They both corresponded with Erasmus, who helped Bishop Fisher learn

their refusal to sign an oath of supremacy that led them to be executed. King Henry VIII claimed to be the supreme head of the Church in England, asserting sovereign power over English Chris-tians. Neither Fisher nor More could abide this claim, and their steadfastness to their conscienc-es put them in conflict with the king. They were convicted of treason.

It is good to love one’s country, but ulti-mate loyalty is due only to Christ and his king-dom. St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher show us what faithful citizenship looks like. They loved and served their country. In the moments just before his execution, More is said to have stated, “I die the King’s good servant, but God’s

first.” They never rose up to incite rebellion or

foment revolution. They were no traitors. But when the law of the king came into conflict with the law of Christ, they submitted to Christ. These men gave their lives for the freedom of the

Church and for freedom of conscience. They bear witness to the truth that no government can make a claim on a person’s soul. May their ex-ample continue to illuminate the path for us, as we seek to faithfully serve our Church and coun-try.

We ask for the intercession of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, that we too would be good servants to our country, but God’s first!

Weekly Greeting

from Ms. Laucella

I have been looking forward to hearing today’s Gospel proclaimed ALL WEEK, because this week’s Gospel is one of my favorite scripture passages of all time.

In this week’s Gospel, we hear the story of Jairus and his daughter. Jairus, a follower of Jesus, asks for Jesus to come with him to heal his daughter, who is very close to death. On their way to Jairus’ house, they receive word that Jairus’ daughter has already passed on. Jesus tells Jairus to have faith, and insists on seeing his daughter. Upon seeing her, Jesus stretches out His hand, and says, “Talitha koum”, which translates to “Little girl, I say to you arise”.

FORMED Recommendations

This upcoming week, our Church celebrates a special Feast Day;

The Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul; Two of the early fathers of the Catholic Church!

Although their relationship started off as rocky, their collaboration and their working together gave us such a gift in what we know about the early traditions and practices of the Early Church, which connects to us today.

To celebrate this Feast Day, my FORMED recommendation to all of you this week is “Saint Peter”, a full-length movie about Saint Peter and his experience in leading the Early Church, spreading the Gospel, and eventually meeting Saint Paul. These two men truly make an incredible team!

Use the QR code to the left to take you directly to the film; Just scan with your phone in the camera app to start watching, and enjoy!

I would like to thank Bob Corsentino for his very generous donation of a commercial

refrigerator! We should be receiving it next week. So one down and one more to go!

We also received a donation of one wheeled grocery cart. Actually I still need two. I

have two more people who have no cars and walk everywhere. This would be a great

help to them.

We still need volunteers that can visit with the elderly.

We do have some people who can deliver food to those no longer able to get to the

pantry. So right now this is not a need.

I still need the housing. So please let me know if you hear of anything. If anyone

knows of a one or two bedroom apartment that may be available in the near future

please reach out to me. This is for three adults. A couple and their adult son. The wife

has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. They are currently in a shelter in

Wading River. However, her doctors are here in Deer Park and before they lost their

home were residents of Deer Park. It is very difficult for them to keep traveling here

for her appointments as she is quite ill. The most they can pay is $1600/mo.

My second request is for a young couple that is pregnant and homeless. They are in

need of a one bedroom or even a studio apartment for up to $1000/mo.

Housing is very hard to come by in the present environment.

If you would be kind enough to pass these requests along to the community I would

be very grateful.

Let us always be guided not by what Jesus would do but rather what Jesus wants us

to do.

God Bless you abundantly for your generosity.
