Pink Peony by Priya Banerjee

A Different Path Gallery is pleased to host artwork from the

students of The Skoog Farm Workshop! Come and see their

remarkable artwork that spans across various mediums and

areas of interest.

The Skoog Farm Workshop was established in March, 2002

by Lori Skoog. Lori retired from teaching art in the Brockport

Central School District in 1999. Her mission then became to

help people from a variety of professions and backgrounds, who did not have prior experience in art, to

find their hidden abilities. Lori firmly believes that everyone has the ability to find success in their art -

and the key to that is learning to see, and being able to develop confidence. Unlike most art classes, all

students begin with a few basic techniques and go on to work in whatever medium they are most

interested in. Over the years, they have painted furniture, hand-woven bags, worked with paper mache,

created collages, made note cards, and so much more.

The students featured in this year’s exhibition are Tina Eibl, Donna Mancuso, Sandy Clark, Pam Radford,

Kathy Speer, Helen Hull, Shamra Westbrook, LuAnne Cenci, and Len Ippolito. The exhibition will also

feature guest artists Priya Banerjee from the Department of Public Health & Health Education and

formal Brockport students, Brenda Cretney and Al Cretney.

The gallery is located at 27 Market Street, Brockport and the Opening Reception for this exhibit will be

held on Friday, Oct. 13 from 7–9 pm. The artwork will remain on display until Oct. 27.

You can view the exhibit Tuesdays through Saturdays from Noon-4 pm by entering through the

Lightways Community Shop at 31 Market Street.

Counselor Education Faculty Attend ACES Conference

Counselor Education faculty attended and presented at the Association for Counselor Education

and Supervision (ACES) Conference in Chicago, October 4-8.

Dr. Summer Reiner, ACES Conference President, officially kicked off the conference for the

more than 1800 members who attended sessions focused on "Forging the Future of Professional

Counseling".

Dr. Claudette Brown-Smythe and Dr. Rafael Outland hosted a round table on "Creating

Community with Ethnically Diverse Faculty: Retention Issues".

Dr. Brown-Smythe also presented a poster on "Spirituality Depression and Subjective

Well-being".

Cryptburgers

They probably were great, afraid we missed them though.

In the 1960s coffee house era Brockport had its own place, the "Crypt." The Crypt was in the

basement hall of St. Luke's Episcopal Church on State Street. There were many elements of the

typical coffee house scene, folk musicians, poetry readings and so forth. However, in their

"Crypt Burgers" they may have hit a unique note!

Attached is a pdf of an article from the Stylus in 1965 highlighting the Crypt. Come to think of

it, researching this could make a great student paper. The coffee house scene, the music, the

setting for activism of various sorts, perhaps finding alumni who recall that era, interviewing

them..
