Introduction

There are not too many places in the world where you can enjoy a game of golf surrounded by majestic mountains and views of the glistening sea. In a tranquil valley below the Wicklow Mountains lies the dramatic setting of Glen of the Downs. This golf

club doesn’t just have an enviable setting. Situated amid a stunning 132 acres of green slopes and valleys, it has earned a reputation as one of Wicklow’s finest courses. Its universal appeal stems from its clever design, which challenges both the beginner and

ardent player. This combined with picture perfect scenery explains why it is often referred to as “a golfer’s dream”.

Whether your preference is a friendly round of golf or a Society or corporate day on the greens, Glen of the Downs caters to all types of players and their particular golfing requests. Designed by Peter McEvoy it has all the essentials – undulating greens, 90 bunkers, and a five tier double green - to deliver the utmost in golfing glory. In addition

to the premier course, guests can enjoy a full service clubhouse to accommodate any event. Nothing goes amiss from the moment you tee off on the perfectly manicured

greens to the après golf in the clubhouse.

The course plays similar to a links course featuring many elevated tees and excellent bunkers. True to many great golfers’ expectations, there are moments of near heartbreak

and sheer delight while playing this course. The highlights include a five-tier double green which is shared by the 8th and 10th holes. Sandwiched in between is a quite superb

par five - the 9th, which measures 500 yards off the back.

With Glen of the Downs Peter McEvoy believes he has constructed “probably the best set of par 3's ever”. Golfers of all levels are sure to find the course a challenge with its

natural slopes and valleys, combined with McEvoy's rolling fairways and some 90 bunkers. The course is easy to walk around although there are buggies available for hire.

The view is also something to be appreciated with a magnificent panorama of the Wicklow Mountains and the Irish Sea.

Reviews

"Everything went superbly well all thanks to your attention to detail, the course, clubhouse ambience, food and most importantly your staff were the contributing factors which ensured the complete success of our MS Ireland Golf Event. I have no hesitation in recommending Glen of the Downs Golf Club as an excellent venue for anyone considering an event or simply a round of golf"

Niall Murray – GEI (Golf Events Ireland) MS Ireland Charity Event August 2010.

“Thank you to the staff at Glen of the Downs Golf Club for a very enjoyable golf outing. The staff, facilities, course, food and beverage really helped make our

outing a great success. We hope to play Glen of the Downs Golf Club again soon"

Caroline Kinsella, UCD Business Alumni Golf Society, August 2008

“We have been running golf classics for many years now. The friendship and hospitality we receive at Glen of the Downs Golf Club over the last seven years

insures we intend holding our classic there for many years to come. It’s a beautiful and picturesque golf club but above all the professional and friendly

service we receive is outstanding.”

Frank Mullen & Peter Borza. Dalkey Utd Fundraising classic.

“Situated in beautiful surroundings and supported by an experienced and customer-focused team the Glen of the Downs Golf Club has ensured the success of our annual charity golf event for the past several years. I would have

no hesitation in recommending the club to others."

Ronan Collins, Communications Manager,Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association

"We recently played the Glen of the Downs as part of our stag weekend to Wicklow, we had a great day and I would rank it as one of the best golf courses in Wicklow if not in the whole of Dublin. The course is in very good condition and is certainly challenging without being too hard for high handicapers. Sitting on the

veranda overlooking the 18th green with a nice cold guinness rounded off a perfect day!! Thanks for all your help."

Keith Carey

"I was given a gift voucher for Christmas, I had heard good things about the course but had never played it. Myself and my son had a lovely day. The views of

the Wicklow mountains are magnificient, its a very good course. We were well looked after and enjoyed a snack in the bar after our game. Hopefully see you

again soon!"
