WHAT TO EXPECT

CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS DURING UTILITY WORK • 7am-6pm construction hours

• Limited overnight or earlier start times work is expected in limited circumstances

⚬ During the Farmer's Market, work hours on Tuesdays are from 5am - 12pm for work near the Market

⚬ Overnight work is expected for the sewer tie-in at the intersection of Rainier Ave S and S 3rd St

• Equipment will stay in work zones overnight

WORK HOURS

• While we are installing multiple utilities in the same street, the work cannot occur at the same time.

• In general, installation must occur from deepest utility to shallowest utility due to trench widths/depths (i.e. sewer, storm, water)

⚬ Generally sewer is deepest and installed first

• Sewer and storm are installed from the downstream elevation to the upstream elevation (i.e. deep to shallow)

⚬ Sewer and storm do not always follow the same flow. It is dependent upon the connection point or outfall. For example, in S 3rd St:

■ Sewer flows from west (upstream) to east (downstream)

■ Storm flows from east (upstream) to west (downstream)

MULTIPLE UTILITIES

(27)

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

• Block by block sections of S 3rd Street will be closed to vehicle access during the working day

⚬ Closure of each section is expected to last approximately 2-4 weeks

⚬ Traffic detours will be in place directing traffic south on Shattuck Ave S and east on S 4th St

⚬ Businesses along S 3rd St can be accessed via Morris Ave S and Smithers Ave S

• Where possible, a minimum of 1-lane of traffic will be open at all times

⚬ During construction hours, detours will be established when traffic cannot safely proceed through the work zones

⚬ Additional lanes may be open after construction hours when possible and safe

⚬ Detour and traffic signs will signal vehicle re-routes and access
