Eighth Grade Expectations

In eighth grade, students will continue to expand and use new vocabulary and verbs. Emphasis will be placed on comprehension. Students will be expected to do the following with their vocabulary for each quarter: a) translate; b) use; c) compare and contrast Spanish to English; and d) write in context. Students will recite the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, and Nicene Creed. Students will work

independently on 1 project per quarter. Quarter 1

1. Students will learn vocabulary related to things one might see in a hotel and in a restaurant; conjugate verbs and reflexive verbs.

2. Students will review greetings, prayers and previously learned materials.

3. Students will read about Spain and the Americas. 4. Vocabulary (Unidad 7 and 1st ½ of Unidad 8)

1. Students will learn verbs tell about the past and verbs that tell about giving things to others; and vocabulary related to things in the city. 2. Students will continue using vocabulary from Unidad 8, use greetings, prayers, and previously learned material.

3. Students will read about México: Los mayas y los aztecas and Uruguay.

1. Students will learn vocabulary related to travel directions and vocabulary related to shopping; using verbs in the past tense; giving positive and negative commands.

2. Students will continue using previously learned material in addition to greetings and prayers.

3. Students will read about Ceuta and Melilla. 4. Vocabulary ( Unidad 10 and 1st ½ of Unidad 11)
