The first group, charac- terized by the largest seeds, included white lupine cultivars (273-317.1 g) and pea cultivars (187.9-278.8 g). The second group, with medium-sized seeds, with mass of 1000 seeds ranging from 119.4 to 173.8 g, included seeds of yellow lupine, narrow-leaved lupine and sowing grasspea. The group of small-seeded cultivars, with WTS at the level of 100 g and less, included seeds of Andean lupine, lentil, and sowing vetch. Although WTS is a cultivar-related trait, its values are subject to considerable environmental variation with relation to applied tillage and cultivation measures, type of soil, and climatic conditions during the vegetation period. According to COBORU, in the years 2003-2005 WTS of yellow lupine cv. Parys and Polo was 144 and 142 g (Paszkiewicz, 2007), and was only slightly higher than WTS of both yellow lupine cultivars represented in this study. Estimation of genetic variability of yielding traits and physical properties of seeds of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) mutants

The estimation of the physical properties of kernels con- cerned also their resistance to mechanical loads (Table 6). The average value of force causing the destruction of the structure of individual kernels of the initial form 1N/86 was 168.5 N, while for the mutants it varied from 125.3 to 227.3 N. Among the hulled cultivars the value of the parameter did not exceed 184.7 N (Edgar). With respect to kernel deformation, the highest value was characteristic of the mutant M 3 (0.42 mm) and the lowest – M 14 (0.26 mm) at the mean value for the initial form at 0.31 mm. The highest degree of deformation among the hulled forms was characte- ristic of the Edgar cultivar. According to WoŸniak (2003b), wheat grain wetting had no influence on kernel deformation, and with microwave drying the times applied had a signi- ficant differentiating effect on the parameter. Resistance to squashing, as measured by the values of energy, was stron- gly varied and depended on the genotype. The value of the parameter for the initial form was 33.24 mJ, and for the mutants from 21.55 to 56.4 mJ. Worthy of notice are the very low values for the hulled cultivars Rasbet, Rodos and Sezam, of 19.14, 17.15 and 15.6 mJ, respectively. An interesting aspect here is that those are solely malting cultivars.

The genus, Coleus consists of herbs, that are widespread in all over India and represents highly valuable plant species having therapeutic and neutraceutical importance. Genetic variation is essential for long term survival of species and it is a critical feature in conservation. For efficient conservation and management, the genetic composition of the species in different geographic locations needs to be assessed. Plants are attracting more attention among contemporary pharmacy scientists because some human diseases resulting from antibiotic resistance have gained worldwide concern. A number of methods are available and are being developed for the isolation of nucleic acids from plants. The different parts of Coleus aromaticus were studied for their nucleic acid content by using spectrophotometric analysis. In order to measure DNA content of the Leaves and stems of C.aromaticus, Spectrophotometry serves various advantages i.e. non-destructive and allows the sample to be recovered for further analysis or manipulation. Spectrophotometry uses the fact that there is a relationship between the absorption of ultraviolet light by DNA/RNA and its concentration in a sample. This article deals with modern approaches to develop a simple, efficient, reliable and cost-effective method for isolation, separation and estimation of total genomic DNA from various parts of the same species.

Two sensitive and inexpensive spectrophotometric methods for quantitative analysis of nisoldipine in tablets have been developed by utilizing the redox properties of 1,4-dihydropyridine pharmacophore. Nisoldipine on reduction with Zn/HCl followed by coupling with N-methyl-1,4-benzoquinoneimine yield a chromophore which absorb at λ max of 520 nm (Method A). Method B uses the oxidation potential of nisoldipine followed by coupling reaction with 3- methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone in the presence of ferric chloride to give purple colored chromogen which absorbs at λ max of 623 nm. Beer’s law was obeyed over the concentration range of 5.0–30.0 and 40-240 µg/ml with methods A and B, respectively. The proposed methods were found to be specific, precise, linear, accurate and sensitive. The methods can be effectively applied for the estimation of nisoldipine in tablets with recoveries of 99.30% and 99.24% with method A and method B respectively.

Curcumin not only synergizes with ART as an antimalarial to kill the parasite, but is also uniquely able to prime the immune system to protect against parasite recrudescence in the animal model. 1,7 Literature survey reveals one of the High performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) methods for quantification of Artemether alone in pharmaceutical raw material. 8 Literature survey also reveals the HPLC method development for simultaneous estimation of Artemether and Lumefantrine in pharmaceutical dosage form. 2 Literature survey reveals the simultaneous estimation of Curcumin and Silibinin by Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method (RP HPLC). 9 However, one of the HPLC/MS method was also developed for simultaneous estimation of Curcumin and Piperine in human plasma. 10 Only liquid chromatographic method was developed for quantification of Curcumin, Arteether, Tetrhydrocurcumin and Dihydroartemisinin. 6 But no simultaneous method was developed for both the drugs in combination. The new communication technologies integrated into the automotive sector offer an opportunity for better assistance to people injured in traffic accidents, reducing the response time of emergency services, and increasing the information they have about the incident just before starting the rescue process. To this end, we designed and implemented prototype for automatic accident notification and assistance based on V2V and V2I communications. However, the effectiveness of this technology can be improved with the support of intelligent systems which can automate the decision making process associated with an accident. A pre luminary assessment of the severity of an accident is needed to adapt resources accordingly. This estimation can be done by using historical data from previous accidents using acknowledge Discovery in Databases process. Most of the existing work focused on data mining in traffic accidents is based on data sets where a very limited preprocessing and transformation were performed. After careful selection of relevant attributes, we showed that the vehicle speed is a crucial factor in front crashes, but the type of vehicle involved and the speed of the striking vehicle are more important than speed itself in side and rear-end collisions. The status of the airbag is also very useful in the estimation, since situations where it was not necessary to deploy the airbag rarely produce serious injuries to the passengers. The studied classification algorithms do not show remarkable differences, but we demonstrate that, if we are able to classify the accidents depending on the types of impacts, we can noticeably increase the accuracy of the system, especially for front crashes where the vehicle is usually the striking one. To this end, we developed a prototype that shows how inter- vehicle communications can make accessible the informatio n about the different vehicles involved in an accident. Moreover, the positive results achieved on the real tests indicate that the accident detection and severity estimation algorithms are robust enough to allow a mass deployment of the proposed system.

A priori signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation and noise estimation are important for speech enhancement. In this paper, a novel modified decision-directed (DD) a priori SNR estimation approach based on single-frequency entropy, named DDBSE, is proposed. DDBSE replaces the fixed weighting factor in the DD approach with an adaptive one calculated according to change of single-frequency entropy. Simultaneously, a new noise power estimation approach based on unbiased minimum mean square error (MMSE) and voice activity detection (VAD), named UMVAD, is proposed. UMVAD adopts different strategies to estimate noise in order to reduce over-estimation and under-estimation of noise. UMVAD improves the classical statistical model-based VAD by utilizing an adaptive threshold to replace the original fixed one and modifies the unbiased MMSE-based noise estimation approach using an adaptive a priori speech presence probability calculated by entropy instead of the original fixed one. Experimental results show that DDBSE can provide greater noise suppression than DD and UMVAD can improve the accuracy of noise estimation.
