Adding New Hardware Node

Important: Before you start installing a hardware node, make sure that there are all necessary packages presented in the system. The list of required packages is given below:

Asterix ('*') after package name means that RPM package should be taken from PEM distribution (from rpms/ subdirectory of the corresponding OS).

Packages required for PEM Server installation, RHEL 3.

ƒ libxml2-2.5

Packages required for PEM Server installation, Fedora Core 1:

Fedora Core 1 Server Package Set

ƒ libxml2-2.5

ƒ ntp

Packages required for PEM Server installation, Fedora Core 3:

ƒ libxml2-2.6

ƒ apr-0.9.4-24.6.swsoft *

ƒ apr-util-0.9.4-22.swsoft *

Please, note that you will have to install these RPMs manually. Appropriate versions of httpd, mod_ssl, pcre and mod_limitipconn are not available in appropriate OS

distributions. You may find these packages in rpms/ subdirectory of PEM distribution.

Adding a new hardware node begins with uploading of a distribution package and host-initial-data file to the host you are going to add.

The distribution package file is an archive that contains the host installation script and other components necessary for adding a host to PEM system. You should obtain this file before you proceed with adding a new host. After you’ve obtained it, upload it to the host you are going to add. The location where you store this file does not matter.

Note: You won't be able to perform new host installation, unless you have specific resource type based on the Hardware Nodes resource class. To learn how to create the resource type refer to the Creating Resource Type section (on page 165).

Host-initial-data file is required for new host installation and contains information about the management node where PEM is installed. This file is generated when you choose hardware node resource type. To upload host-initial-data follow the steps:

1 Select Top > Deployment Director > Server Manager > Hardware Nodes page. Click on the Add New Host button.

2 Choose the hardware node resource type by clicking on it. The Add New Host page will appear.

3 Click the Download button at that page to download the host-initial-data file. You will be required to supply this file later, when adding the host to system.

4 Save the file under a desired name.

5 Upload the file onto the host you wish to add to PEM.

Note: At the Add New Host page you are also offered the URL to host-initial-data file location. So you can write down or just copy to clipboard the full path to the location where this file is stored. You will be prompted to enter this path later, while running the host installation script.

Now that you have stored all the necessary files at the future PEM host, you can proceed to the next stage - actual adding the host to PEM system.

1 Login to the host you are going to add with root privileges.

2 Deliver and untar the distribution file located in the root directory of the PEM distribution. You can choose between five tarballs that represent five Operating Systems.

3 Run the host installation script:

# sn/install

The first Wizard screen appears 4 Press Yes to continue.

5 You will be offered to read the License agreement. Press OK.

The License agreement will be displayed.

6 Read the offered License agreement. You can use PageUp and PageDown keys to browse through the document. When you are done with reading, press ENTER.

7 At the next screen select Yes and click ENTER if you agree to the terms of the license.

8 If you agree to the terms of the License agreement you will be offered to supply certain information to properly configure the PEM Management Node. The parameters are displayed in the form of a menu. To enter a specific piece of information, select the number of the parameter in the list and press ENTER. You will be prompted to enter or choose the appropriate value.

Note: Certain parameters already contain information by default. Although all parameters can be modified, you are strongly advised to use the default settings where available. To confirm the default value, just click ENTER.

1. FQDN of target host, the system determines the hostname automatically.

2. Internal Network Interface. The system will offer you the list of currently

available network interfaces. Select the one having the internal IP address. This interface will be used to communicate with PEM components/agents installed on other hosts. For example,

eth0|address=172.16.52.36|netmask=255.255.0.0.

3. External Network Interface. Enter the network interface, IP and mask parameter of where the PEM services will be installed. For example,

eth0|address=10.63.52.36|netmask=255.255.0.0.

4. Administrator UI Login

Note: You will have to use this name for the first login to PEM user interface.

5. Administrator UI Password

Note: This password will be used for the first login to PEM user interface.

6. Absolute path or URL to host-initial-data file, here you should enter the path or URL to host-initial-data file that you obtained earlier.

9 When all the necessary information is provided, highlight the Finished item and press OK to confirm the provided data and continue.

After the process of installation is complete, you will see a Congratulation note stating that the installation has finished successfully. Now you will be able to see host appear in PEM interface.

Using this instruction, add as many new host as you find necessary for dns servers.
