TheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramispartofthebasicinput/outputsystem (BIOS)code.Youcanusethis programto configureserialportassignments, changeinterruptrequest(IRQ)settings,changethedevicestartupsequence,set thedateandtime,andsetpasswords.Forinformationabout usingthis program, see“UsingtheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogram”onpage58.

v IBMServerGuideSetupandInstallationCD

TheServerGuideprogramprovidessoftware-setuptoolsandinstallationtools thataredesignedfor theserver.UsethisCDduringtheinstallationoftheserver toconfigurebasichardwarefeatures,suchasaServeRAIDadapter,andto simplifytheinstallationof theoperating system.For informationaboutusingthis CD,see“UsingtheServerGuideSetupandInstallationCD”onpage63.

Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program

This sectionprovidesinstructionsfor startingtheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogram anddescriptionsof themenuchoicesthatareavailable.

Starting the Configuration/Setup Utility program

TostarttheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogram,completethefollowing steps:

1. Turn ontheserver.Iftheserverisalreadyonwhenyoustartthisprocedure, you mustshutdowntheoperatingsystem,turnoff theserver,waitafew secondsuntil allin-useLEDsareturned off,andrestart theserver.

2. When the message Press F1 for Configuration/Setup, Press F12 for Boot Menuisdisplayed,pressF1.(Thispromptisdisplayedonthescreenforonly a few seconds.You mustpressF1quickly.)Ifyouhave setbothapower-on passwordandanadministrator password,youmusttypetheadministrator passwordto accessthefullConfiguration/Setup Utilitymenu.Ifyoudonottype theadministrator password,alimitedConfiguration/Setup Utilitymenu is available.

3. Follow theinstructionsonthescreen.

Note: Whenyouusetheserverforthefirsttime,you mightwanttousethe Configuration/Setup Utilitymenu choiceLoadDefaultSettingsto resetthe

Configuration/Setup Utilitymenu choicesto thefactorydefaultsettings,incasethey were changedbefore youreceivedtheserver.Otherwise,somechoicesmightnot bedisplayedinthemenu.

Using passwords

You canuseanycombinationofuptosevencharacters(A-Z,a -z,and0 -9)for thepower-on (user)passwordortheadministratorpassword.

If yousetbothapower-on passwordandanadministrator password,youcantype either passwordatthepasswordpromptthatisdisplayed asyou starttheserver.

However, ifyouwanttochange thesettingsintheConfiguration/Setup Utility program,youmust typetheadministratorpasswordto accessthefull

Configuration/Setup Utilitymenu.Ifyoutype thepower-on password,youhave accesstoonly thelimitedConfiguration/SetupUtilitymenu.

Keepa recordof thepasswordsina secureplace.Ifyouforgetthepower-on passwordor administratorpassword,you canregainaccesstotheserverthrough oneof thefollowingmethods:

v Ifyouhave forgottenthepower-onpasswordandanadministratorpasswordis set,typetheadministrator passwordatthepower-onpasswordprompt.Startthe Configuration/SetupUtilityprogramandchangethepower-on password.

v Removethebatteryandtheninstallthebattery.

Using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD

TheServerGuideSetupandInstallationCDcontainsasetupandinstallation programthatisdesignedforyourserver.TheServerGuideprogramdetectsthe servermodelandoptionalhardwaredevicesthatareinstalledandusesthat informationduringsetuptoconfigurethehardware.TheServerGuideprogram simplifiesoperating-systeminstallationsbyprovidingupdateddevice driversand,in somecases,installingthem automatically.

Setup and configuration overview

When youusetheServerGuideSetupandInstallationCD,youdonotneed setup diskettes.You canusetheCDto configureanysupportedIBMservermodel.The setupprogramprovidesa listoftasksthatarerequiredtosetuptheservermodel.

Ona serverwithaServeRAIDadapterorintegratedSAS/SATAcontrollerwithRAID capabilities, youcanruntheLSI ConfigurationUtilityprogramsto createlogical drives.
