1.6 Initial Start-Up

1.6.2 How to Connect the Hemodialysis Machine

Initial start-up of the machine should be performed by the Fresenius Medical Care technical customer service or a person authorized by them.

– When bringing the hemodialyis machine from a cooler into a warmer room, allow approx. 2 hours for the machine to adjust to the ambient temperature before turning the unit on.

– Prior to first use of the machine, check the position of the DIP switches, and adjust them, if necessary. Also verify the setup settings.

The current DIP switch settings must then be entered in the Medical Device Register.

– Connect the machine to the water supply.

The accessories include a fabric-enforced PVC hose (red), 10 x 16 mm in size, with 3/4"

screw cap and hose clips.

– Connect the machine to the drain.

The accessories include a fabric-enforced PVC hose (black).

The drain should be located 0 to 100 cm above the ground (no less than 5 cm free fall).

– Connect the machine to the power source.

– With central delivery system (CDS):

Use the enclosed connecting tubes for connection to the central delivery system.

Caution

When connecting the hemodialysis machine for the first time, make sure to observe the technical specifica-tions in Chapter 1.11.

Turn on the water supply.

Press the power switch (main switch).

Display message

The Cleaning LED is flashing.

Connect the dialyzer connecting tubes to the interlock shunt, close the shunt door.

Place the red concentrate suction tube in the rinse port.

Place the blue bicarbonate suction tube in the rinse port.

Press the On/Off key.

Turn the hemodialysis machine on!

The On/Off LED is illuminated.

To avoid problems during the man-datory rinse (to remove the anti-freeze) the service switch must be set to ON (up).

On completion of the mandatory rinse set the service switch back to OFF (down) again.

The selected cleaning program in pro-gress is displayed (e.g. mandatory rinse).

At the end of the rinse program, the pro-gram is automatically terminated . The Cleaning LED stops lighting.

If no DIASAFE®plus (option) is used, the user can now perform the technical safe-ty checks (TSC). (See Chapter 1.14 Technical Safety Checks.)

Cleaning Menu Use the arrow keys

to select the desired cleaning program.

Press the Conf key.

The Cleaning LED lights.

Installation of the DIASAFE®plus must be entered in the Medical Device Re-gister (date, batch number).

Verify, and if necessary adjust, the DIP switch settings prior to initial start-up. Record the settings in the Medical Device Register.

Basic requirements

– The optical detector senses clear fluid.

– Both dialysate lines are in the interlock shunt.

– The shunt door is closed

– The concentrate suction tubes must be locked in the rinse chamber.

Operator steps

Press the On/Off key.

Turn the hemodialysis machine off!

The On/Off LED stops lighting.

➀ Open the locking levers.

➁ Slide the protective caps up and out of the guide slot.

1.6.3 Inserting / Priming the DIASAFE®plusplusplusplusplus (option) on Machines with Basic Hydraulics

Remove the protective straps ➀ and ➁ from the new filter by pulling the lug.

➀ Slide the new filter from the top into the guide slot.

➁ Close the locking levers.

Note

If the machines fails to pass the functional test, repeat the test by pressing the Test key.

If a DIASAFE®plus failure (FXX) is displayed after the functional test, this test step has to be skipped.

Then run a heat disinfection program or a disinfection program followed by a hot rinse.

Press the On/Off key.

Turn the hemodialysis machine on!

The On/Off LED is illuminated.

The Test indicator is flashing.

If the Test indicator is not flashing, one of the conditions for the test to start is not fulfilled.

Press the Test key.

The Test indicator is illuminated.

Caution

Disinfect prior to the first treatment.

1.6.4 Inserting / Priming the DIASAFE®plus plus plus plus plus (option) on Machines with Advanced Hydraulics

Note
