Startthestorageagentasfollows:

1. Reboottheclientsystem.

2. Changetothestorageagentdirectoryandissuethefollowingcommand:

Step 3.2 Verify the LAN-free Configuration

Toverify thatyouhaveconfiguredyoursystem correctlyforLAN-free data movement,performthefollowingprocedure:

1. Runabackupoperationfromtheclient.VerifythatthebackupisLAN-free by usingaTivoliStorageManageradministrativecommand-lineclienttologinto theTivoliStorageManagerserverandstorageagenttoverifythattheproper sessionshavebeenestablished.WhenLAN-freedatamovementisoccurring, a QUERYSESSIONonthestorage agentshouldshowbytesreceived(displayed asBytesRecvd)forthenodeincreasingtothetotalamount ofdatabeing backedup.TheQUERYSESSIONontheTivoliStorageManagerservershould showaverysmallamountofbytesreceived(metadata)forthesamenode.If thenode’ssessionexhibitsthisbehavior,and youreceiveamessagestatingthat thebackuphasbeensuccessful,youhaveconfigured yoursystemcorrectly.

2. Whenusingthez/OSdatamanager server,LAN-freeactivity suchasbackup orarchivingrequiresthatthetarget volumebewritten tobytheVersion5.2 z/OSdatamanager servertomeetvolumeselectioncriteria.

Determining Whether the Data Movement was LAN-free

Use thefollowingguidelinestohelpdeterminewhetherthedataismovingonthe LAN-free path:

v MonitortheQUERYSESSIONoutputagainstthenodethatisrunningthe LAN-freebackup.Reviewthebytessentandbytesreceived.Youcanperform thisactionbyusinga TivoliStorageManageradministrativecommand-line clienttologintotheTivoli StorageManager serverand storageagenttoverify thatthepropersessionshavebeenestablished.WhenLAN-freedatamovement isoccurring, aQUERYSESSIONonthestorage agentshouldshowbytes received(displayed asbytesrecvd)for thenodeincreasingtothetotalamount ofdatabeingbackedup.TheQUERYSESSIONontheTivoliStorageManager servershouldshowa verysmallnumberof bytesofmetadatareceivedforthe samenode.Ifthenode’ssession exhibitsthis behavior,thedatamovementis LAN-free.

Note: Duringa failoverwhere thestorage agentissendingdatadirectlytothe serverbyproxybecauseitcannotstore thedatadirectly, theQUERY SESSIONstatisticsontheserverwillshowa muchhigher bytecount.

v IssueeitherofthefollowingQUERYACTLOGcommandsontheserverto whichtheclientisconnected:
