4.11 Example Installation on a Windows-based System
This section cover the installation wizard that appears once the install.exe file has been properly launched on a Windows-based operating system.
Figure 4-12: The language selection option revealed during the installation of NetVault: Backup for Windows 2000 1. With the
install.exe file run, the first installation window will launch. Select the desired language from the drop-down list and click on OK to initiate the installation.
Important:
This section only details the actual installation wizard and not the steps required to initiate a Windows-based O/S install. For complete details on these steps, please see the relevant operating system’s section outlining this procedure.Figure 4-13: The NetVault: Backup Installation Wizard window for Windows 2000 2. Once the language is selected, the first window of the Setup Wizard will appear. Read the notes contained within this window and click on Next to proceed. Read this information thoroughly and select the I Agree option in order to continue by clicking on the Next button (i.e., this button is greyed- out and unavailable until the I Agree option is selected). Agreement accepted, the next window to appear is Choose Installation Type. From this window select the desired type of
installation (e.g., Client vs. Server) and click on the Next button to continue (for more information on the differences between a
Client and Server installation, see Step 2., of the section Example Installation on a UNIX-based O/S on page 44).
Important:
If the setup.exe file is used to initiate the installation, the language selection option does not appear, because the setup.exe file is meant for installing the English-only version of NetVault: Backup. The Setup Wizard, described in step 2, is the first window that appears when setup.exe is run.Figure 4-16: The Installation Wizard’s Machine Name window where it is possible to input a name identifier for this installation of NetVault: Backup

installation. This name is how this machine will be
recognized by other NetVault: Backup machines on the network. Prior to selecting a name, refer to the section Determine NetVault: Backup Machine Names on page 17. Figure 4-17: The Choose Password window which allows an installer to password protect this installation of NetVault: Backup

Password field, followed by an exact duplicate of this password in the Retype Password field. This
password value is associated with the given NetVault:
Backup name and is used to allow/limit access to it by other NetVault: Backup machines (e.g., if this machine is to be added to another NetVault: Backup machine as a Client, this password value would need to be input to do so). Important:
1. If a directory other than the default is selected as a location to house the NVDB, this directory must exist prior to installation. If a non-existent directory is input in this field, NetVault: Backup will not automatically create it and the installation will fail.
2. The “Select NetVault Database Folder” window only appears when installing NetVault: Backup on the NetVault: Backup Server. You will not be prompted to select a NVBD folder if you are installing NetVault: Backup on a client.
is ready to install NetVault: Backup. Click Next to start the installation. The installation process is now complete. The Close button can now be clicked to
close the installation wizard and return to the desktop. NetVault: Backup is now ready for use on this machine.

Platform Specific Post-installation Requirements
5.1 AIX Installation
NetVault: Backup can be installed either via the installation CD-ROM or the binary file downloaded from BakBone Software’s Web site. This following sections describe these two installation methods.
5.1.1 Installing from the Installation CD-ROM on AIX
To install the NetVault: Backup Client software from a CD-ROM, perform the following steps:
1. Log on to the potential Client machine using the root level account. Mount the CD-ROM, if it is not already mounted.
2. From the prompt, issue the command:
cd /cdrom/netvault/aix/netvault ./install
3. With the installation successfully initiated, a step-by-step set up process will begin. Follow the on-screen prompts as they are given and provide the desired information.
5.1.2 Installing from the Downloaded Binary File on AIX
These instructions assume that you have successfully downloaded the appropriate binary file from BakBone Software’s Web site. In addition, this file must be accessible to the potential NetVault: Backup Server machine. To complete an installation of this type, perform the following steps:
1. The downloaded file will be in a compressed state and must first be decompressed (i.e., using the necessary O/S-related decompression software). Once complete, initiate a terminal session and navigate to the directory in which the decompressed files reside.
2. Execute the “install” file, by typing the following:
./install
3. With the installation successfully initiated, a step-by-step set up process will begin. Follow the on-screen prompts as they are given and provide the desired information.
