Execution 4.01 Temporary Electric:

A. Contractor may use electricity available at each Home with permission of Occupant

B. Standards:Comply with ANSIA10.6,NECA’s“Temporary ElectricalFacilities,” and NFPA 241.

C. Provide power and pay usage charges at warehouse and field office

D. Where electrical power is required to be shut down for new service installation, provide temporary power when elderly, infirm or other conditions exist which would create particular hardships on the Occupants. Do not shut down power overnight.

4.02 Temporary Heat: Provide temporary electric heat during shutdowns in existing heating systems.

4.03 Telephone Service:

A. Provide Superintendent and each Foreman with a cellular telephone, or cell phone-radio combination units or portable radio. Carry phone or radio at all times. Provide phone numbers to the City.

B. Provide and utilize voice mail on each portable phone.

4.04 Temporary Construction Facilities

A. Sanitary Facilities: Provide and maintain adequate temporary toilet facilities for work crews and Subcontractors work crews acceptable to the City.

B. Maintain sanitary facilities in clean condition.

C. Do not use facilities within Homes.

D. Remove temporary toilet facilities at the end of each working day.

4.05 Waste Disposal Facilities: Provide waste-collection containers in sizes adequate to handle waste from construction operations. Containerize and clearly label hazardous, dangerous, or unsanitary waste materials separately from other waste.

A. Do not store trash, debris or litter at any Home.Do notuseOccupant’strash receptacles. Remove trash, debris and litter at the end of each day.

B. Refer to Section 01 74 13 –Execution Requirements for progress cleaning requirements.

4.06 Temporary Fire Protection: Maintain temporary fire-protection facilities of types needed to protect against reasonable predictable and controllable fir losses. Comply with NFPA 241, Standard for Safeguarding Construction, Alteration and Demolition Operations.

A. Warehouse: Provide Class ABC dry-chemical extinguishers, installed on walls on mounting brackets, visible and accessible from space being served, with sign mounted above. Comply with NFPA-10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguisher, for size and location.

B. At Dwellings: Provide a Class ABC dry-chemical extinguisher while work is underway at each Dwelling.

4.07 Drinking Water: Provide drinking water for construction personnel, including water coolers and cups for use by all construction personnel. Do not use water at Homes.

4.08 Protection of Occupants and Persons:

A. Take special measures to protect occupants from noise, dust and other disturbances. Complete Work with minimum inconvenience as practicable, and without danger to occupants and structure.

B. Keep common circulation areas clean and unobstructed.

C. Maintain barriers and lights for the protection of persons and property where material is stored or works is in progress, at all times.

D. Provide and maintain protective measures as may be required to adequately protect Occupants and the public from hazards resulting from the Work. When protective measures are regulated by law, regulation, local building officials or other authority, provide such protections as minimum requirements.

E. Unplug power tools when they are not in use.

4.09 Contractor must provide a Room of Refuge in each Home which is:

A. Free from construction and construction traffic.

B. An area mutually acceptable to the Occupant.

C. Not used by the Contractor for the storage of materials.

D. Sealed from adjacent work areas with 6 mil plastic secured continuously at the perimeter of openings.

E. Accessible to a bathroom and kitchen.

F. Selected so construction schedule minimized impact of Work on the Room of Refuge without delaying the Work.

4.10 Security: During work, maintain Home in a secure condition to guard against unauthorized entry asaresultofContractor’soperations.

4.11 Protection of Property:

A. Provide and maintain tarps, pads, drop cloths, covers or other appropriate measures prevent damage to the premises or its contents.

B. Isolate work areas from other areas to the extent practicable. Seal work areas from adjacent and occupied spaces against dust and fumes.

C. Protect lawns, plantings, walks and drives from damage by vehicles and construction operations. Do not park on lawns or landscaped areas. Place tarpaulins on lawns to prevent debris and sawdust from accumulating in lawn;

remove at the end of each work day. Replace tarpaulins which are torn or punctured.

D. Protect the Dwelling and adjacent property and improvements from damage.

Protect the work against storm and accident and provide such additional forms of protection which may be necessary in the prevailing circumstances.

4.12 Weather Protection: Do not leave existing openings unsecured or open to the weather.

Install new window or door into each demolished opening by the end of the working day.

Furnish and install weatherproof coverings over exterior of existing openings if installation of new window is not possible by occupants from inclement weather, including the following:

A. Secure exposed openings not in progress of work against excessive heat loss and inclement weather with 6 mil plastic sheeting.

4.13 Obtain written permission from the city prior to leaving any opening (i.e. door, window, etc.) with temporary cover overnight. Demonstrate that method of providing cover meets these requirements.

4.14 Repair of Damage: Restore or replace surfaces, existing construction or belongings damaged as a result of Contractor’soperations.

4.15 Environmental Conditions: The Contractor is solely responsible for maintaining suitable temperature and ventilation necessary for various portions of the Work specified in other Sections.

4.16 Pollution control: Control hazardous materials, including dust and paint chips from lead-based paint. Do not wash painting tools in such a manner to allow runoff to enter the ground. Do not pour hazardous or prohibited materials into municipal sewer or storm drainage systems.

4.17 The Contractor is responsible for providing adequate storage facilities. Windows and doors must be stored in a warehouse-type building or in 40ft. lockable containers.

Windows and doors must be stored so that products for each Dwelling are accessible at any time without having to move the products of other Dwellings.
