Section 08 11 00 –Secondary Hinged Entry Doors and Frames
Part 1 General 1.01 Summary

A. Contractor must prepare and submit a Product Submittal for each product related to Work covered by this Section, including without limitation:
1. S-1 style glazed secondary door 2. S-2 style glazed secondary door 3. S-3 style glazed secondary door 4. S-4 style glazed secondary door
B. Contractor must ensure that each Product Submittal meets the requirements of Section 01 33 00 and includes, without limitation:
1. Dimensioned and scaled drawings of sufficient detail that product configuration and assembly can be clearly understood
a. Drawings must identify product materials used in construction (including type and thickness of glazing)
2. All colors available from the manufacturer, with colors proposed to be provided for the project clearly identified
3. Minimum and maximum sizes available 4. Minimum force required to operate sashes 5. The U-value of the product
6. All options available from the manufacturer, with options proposed to be provided for the project clearly identified
7. Complete installation instructions and procedures from the manufacturer 8. Complete warranty information, with warranty contact information and
warranty period highlighted
9. A laboratory test report documenting the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of the product
10. Documentation showing approval of California Energy Commission, compliance with Title 24 energy requirements, compliance with water penetration and air infiltration requirements (as required), including laboratory test reports for all such requirements.
C. Contractor must provide samples for the following products:

B. Contractor must ensure that all Secondary Hinged Entry Doors for each Home are keyed the same, yet different from other Homes
1.05 Delivery, Storage & Handling
A. Contractor must deliver products in original, unopened packaging with manufacturer’slabelsintactand legible
B. Contractor must store all materials:
1. so that they are protected from damage
2. stacked, or racked, so that they are stored in a true plane
3. in accordancewith Manufacturer’srecommendationsand/orinstructions 1.06 Warranty
A. Contractor must guarantee all Work covered by this Section for a minimum of five(5)yearsfrom thedatespecified in theCity’sNoticeofCompletion
Part 2 Products
2.01 All Secondary Hinged Entry Doors and Frames must:
A. be pre-hung at the factory
B. be available in the colors of white, dark brown, tan and silver
C. be furnished with manufacturer provided finish hardware, including without limitation:
1. latching hardware must comply with the American Disabilities Act
2. locking hardware (including deadbolt style lock) 3. closure mechanisms
4. security chains
D. contain clear glazing which meets all of the requirements of Safety Glazing as defined by Section 08 80 00 (Glazing)
2.02 Latching and Locking Hardware must:
A. be a lever latch
B. be available in white, dark brown, tan, black, gold and silver
C. be equal to Wright Products Model VGL888HL Georgian series lever latch set 2.03 Deadbolts must be:
A. operable from exterior with a key
B. operable from interior without a key or special knowledge C. be available in white, dark brown, tan, black, gold and silver 2.04 Closure Mechanism must be
A. be available in white and black 2.05 Security chains must be
2.06 Glazing and sash requirements
A. Sash Tracks will have intermediate stops, for self-storing (operable) sash. Such intermediate stops will be designed to prohibit accidental bypass of stop positions or sash travel beyond the full open or full closed position.
B. Sash release hardware will be provided with projecting finger tabs rather than finger holes.
C. Sash Tracks will have a sash retainer to prevent accidental fall-out of the operable sash.
D. Secondary Doors will be provided sash-fall-out restraints or channels, for self-storing (operable) sash. Such restraints will be designed to prohibit accidental removal or fall-out of the operable sash.
2.07 Secondary Doors must conform to the styles shown in Secondary Door Selection sheet shown in the details and referenced in the Plans for each Home.
2.08 S1 Secondary (Storm) Doors must comply with the following requirements:
A. Have a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of at least 33 B. Be either:
1. Whisper-Like model S1 2. Mon-Ray model 802
3. Or“Approved Equal”in accordancewith Section ___
2.09 S2 Secondary (Storm) Doors
A. Have a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of at least 33 B. Be either:
1. Whisper-Like model S2
2. Mon-Ray model 802
3. Or“Approved Equal”in accordancewith Section ___
2.10 S3 Secondary (Storm) Doors
A. Have a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of at least 31 B. Be either:
1. Whisper-Like model S3 2. Mon-Ray model 804
3. Or“Approved Equal”in accordance with Section ___
C. Glazing dimensions for P-10 and P-11 door style shall match Glazing size for S-3 and S-4 type Secondary Doors unless otherwise noted.
2.11 S4 Secondary (Storm) Doors
A. Have a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of at least 31 B. Be either:
1. Whisper-Like model S4 2. Mon-Ray model 804
3. Or“Approved Equal”in accordancewith Section ___
C. Glazing dimensions for P-10 and P-11 door style shall match Glazing size for S-3 and S-4 type Secondary Doors unless otherwise noted.
Part 3 Execution
3.01 Contractor must verify all dimensions and conditions of primary door opening which are to receive secondary doors during Site Evaluation Inspections before orders are placed in accordance with Section 01 71 00. (Sizes shown in the contract documents are nominal.) Door must beno lessthan onequarterofan inch (¼”)smallerin width and/orheightthan the opening size
3.02 Contractor must supply units specifically fabricated for the existing openings for each Home
3.03 Contractor must verify obstructions to Secondary door installation (stucco detail, brick veneer, river rock veneer, etc) and (1) measure appropriately, (2) discuss the obstruction cutback/modification of exterior finish with the Construction Manager.
3.04 Contractor must verify that delivered inventory includes all proper secondary doors and that they are on-site and ready for installation prior to submitting written 72-hour notification to start work at a Home as required by the Contract Documents.
3.05 Contractor must reinstall any existing secondary or security doors on the same day that they are removed
3.06 Installed door and lock on the same day that existing doors are removed. No partial installations will be accepted.
3.07 All gaps between the perimeter of new doorframes and the framing members will be sealed with non-hardening sealant. Gaps that are larger than 1/8”willreceivefulldepth plywood filler strips before applying sealant.
3.08 Installation ofNew Secondary Doors willbein strictaccordancewith theSupplier’s Specifications and will close in the completed configuration so that there are no visible light leaks in its closed position.
3.09 Contractor must ensure that installed Secondary Hinged Doors do not come in contact with, nor improperly limit proper operational clearances of, finish hardware of primary hinged doors
A. Failure to properly account for such conditions during measurements for ordering products will not
B. This requirement will also apply to re-installed screen doors and security doors.
3.10 Contractor must reinstall existing secondary doors (i.e. screen doors, storm doors and security doors) removed as part of the Work
A. Screen and security doors will be modified if necessary to meet the applicable requirements. The Contractor May assume at time of bid that because of he will be replacing all door frames, the dimensions of the new finished openings will not accommodate the old screen or security door and that a new one will have to be installed or the old one will have to be re-machined. This work will be included in theContractor’sbid.
B. Hardware on new or re-installed security doors must be provided or modified to be operable from the inside without a key or special knowledge.
3.11 Contractor mustobtain thesignatureoftheOwner’sRepresentativeatthetimekeysare presented to the Property Owner to prove keys have been given
A. A copy of such signature must be presented to the City along with the request for inspection.
