6.10 To set up Fax-On-Demand on an Inter-Tel system:
1. Fax card installation: Make sure the Fax card is installed in the Voice Processing PC, the DIP switches are set correctly, and the card is connected to the AIC-to-VP ribbon cable.
2. Program Fax-On-Demand Library Size: In Fax-On-Demand Programming, set the Maximum Fax-On-Demand Library Size to an appropriate number. (You will adjust the other settings later.)
3. Import documents: Using the System Administrator’s mailbox and a fax machine, import the documents that will be used by the Fax-On-Demand feature. (See page 4-71 for instructions.) The first document should contain your logo. The second document should be a list of available documents that callers can use as an index. Make note of the numbers assigned to each of the documents.
4. Program the document details: In Fax-On-Demand Programming, view the list of fax documents you have just created. Give each document a short description and a detailed description. If you need to renumber them to match the index document, do it now.
5. Configure the Fax-On-Demand feature: In Fax-On-Demand Programming, set the Allow International Calls flag, Start/Stop Time, days of the week, Outgoing Access, Format - Local Fax ID, Format - Company Name, and Format - Logo Document num-ber to the proper settings.
6. Set the miscellaneous information: In Fax-On-Demand Programming, set the timers to the appropriate settings for your installation.

7. Program the Message Notification/Retrieval application: If you have not already done so, create a Message Notification/Retrieval application. Then, in Trunk Group Programming, ensure it has access to an outgoing trunk group. If desired, you can set toll restrictions for it in Voice Processor - Devices - Applications - Class of Services.
8. Program the Call Routing Announcement application: In Voice Processor - Devices - Applications, create a Call Routing Announcement application that will allow access to the Fax-On-Demand feature.
x Program a description and username.
x Program the digit translation. For example:
# = End Fax Selection
* = Cancel Fax Selection
0 = Select Fax by Document Number 1 = Select Fax Document (first document) 2 = Select Fax Document (second document) 3-9 = Select other fax documents
Timeout = Transfer to Operator
x Use the same greeting for day and night modes. Assign the custom recording num-ber to the greeting you will record later. The greeting will include instructions for using the Fax-On-Demand feature and a pause to allow the caller to respond, and it may include a list of available documents.
9. Using the System Administrator’s mailbox, make the custom audiotex recording assigned above. (See page 4-55 for instructions.)
10. Call in to the application and fully test it.

7. RECORD-A-CALL
NOTE: This feature requires the Record-A-Call premium feature.
7.1 If the Voice Processing Unit has a Record-A-Call application, the users can enter a fea-ture code to record ongoing calls in their designated Record-A-Call mailboxes. Users can retrieve the recorded messages later, just as they would any other mailbox message.
7.2 The Record-A-Call mailbox records the call as a Voice Mail message. All parties will be included in the recording. If desired, the Record-A-Call mailbox can be programmed to play a message announcing that the Record-A-Call feature is in progress. There can be separate messages for day and night modes.
7.3 A Record-A-Call tone can be programmed to alert callers at the beginning of the recording. Also, it can be programmed to beep periodically throughout the recording. Record-A-Call tone is enabled at default.
7.4 There are two ways a station can be programmed to use this feature:
x The station can use its personal mailbox, or any other mailbox, as the assigned Record-A-Call mailbox. No other mailbox can be selected. (This is the default programming for all stations.)
x The station can be programmed with a default mailbox but with the option of selecting a different mailbox. If the user chooses to not enter a mailbox number, the system auto-matically selects the default mailbox.
7.5 When the requesting station user hangs up, all parties are automatically disconnected. If all parties on the call hang up, except the requesting station user, an intercom call will remain connected between the requesting station and the Record-A-Call application. This allows the user to make additional comments before ending the recording.
7.6 When the station user turns off Record-A-Call or ends the call being recorded, the Voice Processing Unit delivers the message to the mailbox. The station associated with the mailbox will receive message waiting indications as usual. See page 4-43 for message retrieval instruc-tions.
7.7 The programmer can set a maximum length for A-Call messages. The Record-A-Call Maximum Message Length timer can be set at 0-600 minutes. A 0 setting allows mes-sages of any length, limited only by the available disk space. The default is 30 minutes
7.8 In a network setting, the Record-A-Call destination does not have to be on the same node as the station, but the Voice Processing Unit must have a mailbox for that station.
7.9 For more information on using the Record-A-Call feature, refer to page 5-166.

8. SCHEDULED TIME-BASED APPLICATION ROUTER (STAR)
8.1 Scheduled Time-Based Application Routing (STAR) allows you to have applications with alternate greetings and/or different programming set up for holidays, weekends, and other scheduled events.
8.2 A STAR application is basically a “routing table” for Voice Processing applications.
When a direct ring-in call (from a trunk group or call routing table) rings in to a STAR applica-tion, it sends the call to another Voice Processing applicaapplica-tion, according to its programmed schedule. The caller will not be aware of this transfer, but will hear the programmed greeting for the destination application. (The STAR application itself does not play a greeting.)
8.3 STAR can be used with any type of Voice Processing application except Auto Attendant Recall and Record-A-Call. You can even send calls from one STAR application to another, thereby “chaining” the applications to increase the number of available schedules.
8.4 A STAR application can contain up to 20 scheduling entries with the following fields:
x Application: This is the application (call routing announcement, automated attendant, another STAR application, etc.) that will be used when the scheduling information applies to the incoming call.
x Start/Stop Date: If the schedule is going to be active on a single day or for a period of days, enable the Specific Date flag and enter Start and Stop Dates. (To have the sched-ule active on only one day, the Start and Stop Dates can be the same day.)
x Days of the Week: If the Specific Dates flag is disabled, the schedule can be used on specific days of the week.
x Specific Times: The schedule can be set to be active for a specific period of time on selected days, if you enable the Specific Times flag and enter a Start and Stop time.
x Day/Night Mode: The schedule can be set to be active in day or night mode, if the Spe-cific Time flag is disabled.
8.5 The chart on the next page shows several samples of STAR entries. Note that there are two entries for Labor Day and Memorial Day, and that Christmas Day and Christmas Holiday overlap. The first entry in the table is checked first, and so on, until a match is found. So it is important that you program the applications in the correct order. For example:
x The Labor Day entry, with a specific time, comes before the Day/Night entry so that a different message is played from 10:00 to 2:00 only.
x The early time intervals come before the later intervals on Memorial Day.
x Dec 25 comes before the range of dates Dec 24- Jan 4 so that the special holiday mes-sage will be played on that day only.
Page 4-34 Voice Mail 8.6 Once a match is found, the application corresponding to the matched entry is invoked.
If no match is found, the application programmed in the “Default Application” field is invoked.
8.7 When programming the days and times, be careful not to overlap. For example, if you place a date entry for Dec 25 after a day of the week entry for Monday, and Christmas falls on a Monday, the “Monday” application will be selected instead of the “Dec 25” application.
9. VOICE MAIL
9.1 The Voice Mail feature allows callers to send and receive recorded messages from any station or DTMF telephone. (Dial-pulse signaling is not recognized by Voice Processing. Call-ers using dial-pulse phones will be routed to the Voice Mail application’s Dial-0 Destination for assistance.)
