3.9.12.2 The map editor

This section describes how to work with the stand-alone map editor application.

3.9.12.2.1 Starting the map editor

After the map editor application software has been started you will be presented with a login screen.

You will now have to log into INM with a system administrator operator account. It's recommended that a specific system administrator account is created for the purpose of editing maps, although you can use an existing system administrator account as well.

Remember that you cannot be logged on to the INM web interface at the same time with the same account, while being logged on from the editor.

Fill in the operator username and password, enter the address to the INM server (and optionally the port number) and click the OK button.

*** Important: The editor only supports images in the .PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. If you have an image that you want to use that is in another format, you will first have to convert it with another application before usage. ***

To import your image, select "Import images" from the "INM" menu. Then select your image file and click Ok. The image will be sent to the INM server and will be available for use in the editor.

If your icons are very large, the default method of displaying status as a background may or may not work well. In such cases, it's recommended that you use the status overlay method described in the Network map settings section.

*** A note regarding image transparency. It's recommended that your icons are in the 32-bit RGBA format with a proper alpha channel. ***
