6.2.1. Library Overview

6.2.1.3. Online Databases for Core Curriculum

The Library subscribes to several online databases related to the degree program that are available to students on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis. These databases will provide students, including those in online courses, with access to full-text journal publications.

Databases that will be useful to this degree program include the three major general research databases: Gale Academic OneFile, EBSCO Academic Search Premier, and ProQuest Research Library. In addition to these basic resources which have some content in the subject area, students will have access to the Gale

Communications and Mass Media eCollection of over 250 periodicals covering advertising, public relations, linguistics and literature. The business component is covered by resources such as EBSCO Business Source Complete and other general business resources. Rounding out this collection are a number of specialty

databases, such as, Canadian Advertising Rates and Data Online, National List of Advertisers and CisionPoint Media Monitoring.

To supplement the current database complement, the Library recommends the acquisition of EBSCO Communication and Mass Media Complete.

For core curriculum, Table 21 lists the online databases currently provided by the library and identifies additional online databases that the library plans to acquire in support of this program.

Access current advertising rates and data for every significant medium in Canada, and selected International media. NOTE: Available for on-campus use only.

National List of Advertisers Rogers

This database provides over 5,200 listings of the largest companies that advertise in Canada, 1,200 advertising agencies, 14,500 brand names and advertised products including

manufacturers and distributors. NOTE: Available for on-campus use only.

CisionPoint Online media directory of 8000 Canadian print and broadcast media outlets and 37,000 contacts including editors, writers and freelancers. Create targeted media lists. CBCA Business MicromediaProQuest

E-Stat Statistics Canada Statistics about people and the economy in Canada. Censuses of population and agriculture can be displayed in the form of tables, graphs and maps for several geographic areas. LexisNexis Academic Full-text of 6,000 news, business and legal

publications. Newspapers include: Globe and Mail (selected), New York Times, and Financial Times. Legal Search section includes Canadian legislation and case law.

Small Business eCollection Gale

Full text industry and trade journals for

entrepreneurs and business students, including general business magazines and management journals.
