 Consults with families and teachers on a timely basis.

 Serves as a member of the school level team for Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

 May pull out students for services on a very limited basis for intensive intervention. (Tier 3)

 Collaboratively plan and lead programs for families during the school year under the principal’s supervision.

 Utilize instructional strategies based on scientific research that strengthens the core academic program.

 Assists with and participates in high quality professional learning activities.

 Participates in overall needs assessment of the school for improvement.

 Differentiates instruction based on data.

 Reviews data to make instructional decisions to address student weaknesses.

 Collaborates with classroom teachers for instructional planning and delivery based on students’ needs.

This individual will work in tandem with the school counselors and administration to create plans to support students on an individual basis who are in crisis or having academic, attendance, social, emotional or behavior issues in the classroom. The Social Worker will also assist with increasing family engagement through workshops, home visits, mentoring and working with outside agencies to improve the student/family environment. The Social Worker may not be used in any capacity which is not approved, in advance, by the Director of Federal Programs. Evaluation of the Social Worker will be conducted by the Director of Federal

Programs with input from the schools’ principals.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Work in collaboration with school administration, counseling staff, nurse, psychologist, Attendance Director and instructional staff to identify at-risk students.

 Work with the school counselor and administration to create individualized plans that support students who are in crisis and/or have academic, attendance, social, emotional or behavior issues in the classroom.

 Provide professional counseling support to identified families/students in crisis.

 Work with Attendance Director, teachers, counselors and administration to improve student attendance and decrease tardiness by assisting with home visits, regular, documented contacts with student and families, and acting as a broker to obtain the services needed by these families to improve student attendance.

 Work with school-based personnel and outside agencies to decrease discipline referrals and infractions; increase family engagement activities; and increase involvement with community members.

 Work with teachers to establish relationships with community and business leaders to become mentors and tutors to students.

 Assist staff in the development and implementation of appropriate discipline procedures.

 Incorporate a variety of strategies to insure on-going family and community engagement that insures sustainability.

 Maintain documentation and evidence of these activities through logs, sign-in sheets, etc. and be able to compare program success to beginning and end data points.

 Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, county policy and administrative regulations.

 Maintain professional work habits.

 Maintain professional competence through continuing education activities provided by Mason County Schools and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

 Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Federal Programs, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent or Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 BSW Social Work, minimum.

 Willing to pursue MSW and complete within 2 years

 WV Social Work License

 Trauma Certified or willing to obtain

 Strong written and communication skills.

 Familiarity with local agencies and services offered for at-risk students in the areas of academics, social adjustment, emotional support, and/or behavior intervention.

 Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.

 Demonstrated knowledge of improving student attendance.

 Demonstrated knowledge of organizing community leaders to assist with educational advancements.

 Strong organizational skills to develop on-going, sustained family and community engagement at the school level.

 Demonstrated knowledge of analyzing data and developing an action plan based on the data analysis.

 Work with building principal and county staff in identifying and solving problems related to assigned exceptional students.
