5.1. Student Mentoring and Support
5.1.1. Does the institution publish its updated prospectus / handbook annually? If ‘yes’, what is the information provided to students through these documents and how does the institution ensure its commitment and accountability?
Yes, the college publishes its prospectus, college magazine and newsletters. They are semester and annual publications.
Prospectus: College prospectus is provided to students during admission to first semester. This covers vision and mission of the college, principal’s message, the list of board of trustees, the office bearers of the trust, the Governing Council Composition, the details of the faculty members, the courses offered, the admission procedures and other information related to various activities of different forums of the college. It also carries the information such as website address, the college telephone number, postal letters and the college profile.
News Letters:
“CHETANA” the forum for women welfare conducts various activities and it also publishes newsletter annually.
The department of kannada publishes “Kannada Vani”
publishes annually.
Humanities forum publishes newsletter “Expression”.
The Gandhi Study Circle, Vivekananda Study Circle and Consumer Club publish newsletters annually.
Commerce Forum publishes newsletter called “Vanijya Vani”
annually.
College Magazine: The College publishes its annual magazine
“Spandana”. The several of annual activities of the college are published in the magazine. The main objective of the magazine is to cultivate the habit of creative writing and to extract the hidden creative talents of the students and provides them a platform to showcase their achievements. The staff members are also contributing to the improvement of the quality of the magazine, by writing articles on various current issues. It also contains the details of achievements by students and other staff members in the field of academic, cultural and sport activities. The college ensures its commitment and accountability for the information provided.
“Vani” is a quarterly newsletter published by Seshadripuram Education Trust, which covers the important activities of all the Institutions comes under the banner of SET.
Commitment and Accountability
The college is fully committed to the mission of uplifting the status and living conditions of every student admitted to the college and transforming them into a workforce empowered to change the destiny of the nation. This calls for a change from the traditional, enabling them to compete successfully in the shifting globalized world. The college ensures achievement of this objective through various programs of quality whereby the student-stakeholder is offered best programs, academic and non-academic. Its social responsibility is driven by the process of defining and measuring “outcomes” and “core indicators”
which relate results to purpose; its administration is largely the act of balancing social accountability and responsibility with the dynamic marketplace appropriately. Various programmes have been designed to achieve this end.
The college is always aware of its responsibility and accountability towards all its stakeholders. This is ensured through collection of feedback from the stakeholders and timely evaluation sessions. Areas for improvement are identified and positive action taken to achieve the objectives.

Most of the students of the college are employees and a very few of them are unemployed. Scholarships are provided to the students belongs to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and backward classes who are economically weaker. Since the college admits students who are normally employees and do not depend either on scholarships or other financial assistance. Though, it was not necessary to provide freeships or scholarship to the students, the college provided the required assistance to the students in the form of freeships and scholarships. The total student strength of the college 1,122 during 2012-13, and the percentage of students received the financial benefits from state government, central government and other national agencies are not significant. As this college is an evening college, the question of scholarships to the evening college students are not attracted much attention. Students of this college are employees one way or the other.

Certain specific support services extended to SC/ST & OBC students, and general support services to all the students. The following are some services:
Fee concession to SC/ST students at the time of admission.
Reservation of seats for SC/ST students as per existing norms.
Government of India Merit Scholarships exclusively for SC/ST students.
Exclusive Book Bank facility for SC/ST students in the college library extended from the affiliated university.
Provision of elevator facility to differently abled students.
Guidance and necessary assistance to students participating in inter-collegiate competitions; inter college competitions and cultural competitions as well as sports & games.
The college has a health center works during college hours with a full time a qualified doctor. Free medicines are given to a minimum extent. First aid facility is available in the health center.
The Management of the college has insured all the students of the institutions come under SET with student safety insurance policy. The policy number 67010248132300000001. Insurance assures the death/permanent disability coverage of Rs. 50,000/- per student in case of accidental death/disability and accident coverage of maximum of Rs. 25,000/- per student for partial permanent disability (Depends on the percentage of Injury).
Guidance by the faculty members to the aspirants of various competitive examinations.
Computer training program in computer literacy for students and teachers by the computer science department. In addition computer fundamentals as one of the subjects introduced as compulsory paper for UG level.
Spoken English classes and spoken Sanskrit classes are regularly conducted by the Department of English and Sanskrit linkages with a few corporates and business houses to the benefit of the students of the college.
The college is publishing annual magazine “Spandana” every year. Students are actively involved in bringing out the magazine by contributing various articles, write-ups.
The students are also taken into various committees constituted namely

- Cultural committee & other academic committees.
5.1.5. Describe the efforts made by the institution to facilitate entrepreneurial skills, among the students and the impact of the efforts.
The “Chethana” Women welfare forum conducts entrepreneurial skill development programs in co-ordination with “AWAKE” – Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka – a voluntary organization (NGO) promoting welfare of women. These programs are mainly focused on women related issues. There are women empowerment programs conducted by “Chethana” in co-ordination with “AWAKE”.
The main thrust is to make women employable and to secure their position in society.
The Department of Commerce made insights for the development of entrepreneurial skills to students by conducting orientation program in which student entrepreneurs’ are invited to address many issues pertaining to Entrepreneurial programs. This gives a new direction and approach to understand and learn many skills which are important from the point of view of making successful entrepreneurs. This is done regularly at different intervals in an academic year. This program carries due weightage and led to a strong motivation for becoming future leaders in the industry.

The college has adopted certain strategies and policies in order to encourage extra-curricular and co-curricular activities for students’ empowerment. The college has both NSS & NCC units which serves the best for the overall personality development of students during their stay in the college. The college has a qualified and efficient Sports Director conducts various indoor and outdoor sports activities. The college ensures constant encouragement and motivation for students to participate in various extra-curricular activities by providing necessary facilities and adequate funds. The sports and cultural committee
supervises the extra-curricular activities. There are important steps taken to ensure the same and some of them are mentioned as follows:
Awards are given to sports students who won the prizes in college annual sports meet.
Best champion trophy is awarded to the best sports student on the basis of overall performance.
Best outgoing sportsmen award, mementos’ are given during Annual Prize Distribution Day.
Sports uniform and equipment are provided free of cost by the college.
Refreshment and other arrangements are made during sports events.
Annual sports meet with good number of sports events conducted including athletic as well as field events, and this is an occasion to install sportsmen spirit in all students and to appreciate the talents of sports students. The students participating in extracurricular activities are given permission and exemption from the attendance and classes in order to encourage their participation.
The students have secured good number of prizes in participating various Inter – Collegiate and Intra – college competitions. Lt. Col. Chikkarangaswamy, Director of Physical education of the college, who has got wonderful exposure in the field of weight lifting. This expertise has been benefitted to the students reflected in their achievements. Under his able leadership and guidance organized:
Karnataka State Inter - Collegiate Table Tennis Tournament for Men and Women in 2011-12.
Bangalore University Inter – College Best Physique competition for Men in 2012-13.

Enumerating on the support and guidance provided to the students in preparing for the competitive exams, give details on the number of students appeared and qualified in various competitive exams such as UGC-CSIR- NET, UGC-NET, SLET, ATE / CAT / GRE / TOFEL / GMAT / Central /State services, Defense, Civil Services, etc.
The college has given emphasis to provide guidance and support to students to appear for various competitive examinations, and the students have been benefitted a lot in the achievement of the same.
Dept. of Political Science gives emphasis in preparing students to appear for various competitive exams and this is followed in other Departments.
5.1.8. What type of counseling services are made available to the students (academic, personal, career, psycho-social etc.)
Academic Council: The faculties of all the departments educate the students on the academic system and rules that regulate the academic career and many resources available to them on campus. Necessary guidance is also provided to each student on a wide range of academic matters including assessment and examinations, choosing their core and complementary options.
Students are categorized as advance learners, slow learners and average performers. Special counseling and guidance is provided by the faculty to students of each category, more particularly to slow & average performers.
5.1.9. Does the institution have a structured mechanism for career guidance and placement of its students? If ‘yes’, detail on the services provided to help students identify job opportunities and prepare themselves for interview and the percentage of students selected during campus interviews by different employers (list the employers and the programmes).
Career Guidance & Placement cell: The college has placement and career guidance cell. The cell guides and offer suggestions to students regarding job opportunities. They are:
Orientation programmes conducted by Career Guidance and Placement Cell.
Department of Sociology in association with Career Guidance and Placement Cell organized special lecture on “Youth Power in Nation’s Building & Career opportunities in Military and Para Military forces”. Mr. Arkesh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, CRPF invited as chief guest and resource person. He explored the abundant challenging opportunities in the Military and Para-military Forces. He shared his experiences with
stakeholders.
A special Guest Lecture on “Career as an Insurance Advisor”
was organized by Career Development Cell. Roopa S.R, Pradeep H.P and Vathsala H.T, Development Officers of Life Insurance Corporation addressed the gathering. They enlightened the students on various employment opportunities available in the insurance Sector.
Special Guest lecture on “Employment opportunities in Government Services through Staff Selection Commission” was organized. Sri. S. Gopalan, ITS, Regional Director, Staff Selection Commission, GOI delivered a lecture on various employment opportunities available in the different Departments comes under Government of India. In his lecture, he mentioned that the percentage of candidates appearing for various competitive examinations conducted by Staff Selection Commission is comparatively low from Karnataka when compared to other states in the entire country. He strongly motivated the students to take up competitive examinations conducted by SSC in order to fill the gap.
As for as Placement is concerned, the campus interviews are conducted by MYCOM IMAGINES SUPPLIES PVT. LTD. The college Placement Cell in collaboration with Kengeri Branch, organized a Pool Campus Interview and there are good number of students selected to various reputed companies like Wipro, guidance and support to the students to get a better opportunity according to their skill and talents.
5.1.10. Does the institution have a student grievance redressal cell? If yes, list (if any) the grievances reported and redressed during the last four years.
A student grievance redress cell has been functioning on this campus for last several years. This cell is functioning in co-ordination with student welfare officers.
5.1.11. What are the institutional provisions for resolving issues pertaining to sexual harassment?
Sexual harassment prevention committee has been constituted as per the directions of the Commissioner, Department of Collegiate Education and Government of Karnataka. The committee is headed by a senior woman faculty and the other members of this committee are one woman police officer, one member of local bodies, two or three women teachers, one female employee from group B and another female employee from group D. A complaint box has been kept accessible to students on the college campus. Awareness programs are conducted by inviting experts in the field of law in order to prevent the same.
5.1.12. Is there an anti-ragging committee? How many instances (if any) have been reported during the last four years and what action has been taken on these?
The students admitted to this college are employees. They are matured and well behaved. The college has a discipline committee, which also acts as an Anti-Ragging Committee. However, no instances of ragging have been reported so far.
5.1.13. Enumerate the welfare schemes made available to students by the institution.
Seshadripuram Educational Trust has adopted a novel practice of recognizing the meritorious students scored more than 80% in their qualifying examinations and admitted to first year degree courses, are given cash prize of Rs. 5000. Students admitted to first year degree courses are permitted to pay the fees in instalments. There are cases of students who are hailing from lower strata / the under privileged sections of the society are exempted from the payments of fees. There are good numbers of instances; the management takes decisions to exempt students from the payment of fees in extreme cases. This is discretionary powers of the management.
Medical aid is given to students. There is a health center with a qualified doctor works during college hours. Free treatments with medicines are given to patients. Health center is well equipped.
Students are given counselling services. They are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities. They are also benefitted from various scholarships and financial assistance extended from Government and other NGO’s/voluntary organizations, Differently Abled students are given lift facility. Separate Book bank facility is available to the students belongs to SC/ST. Support services are provided for NCC cadets and NSS volunteers.
5.1.14. Does the institution have a registered Alumni Association? If ‘yes’, what are its activities and major contributions for institutional, academic and infrastructure development?
The college has SEDCSSA (SEDC Senior Students Association), which meets on the second Saturday of September every year. As per the policy of the management it is not a registered association.
The main objective of this association is to bring old students together and to motivate the present and future generation of this college. It serves the college in many ways. Alumnae Association has developed as convention of felicitating previous principals. This association has instituted a best Alumnae Award every year to Alumnae, who have made significant contribution in the concerned field. There are lecture programs conducted by inviting the old Alumnae as resource persons.
The lectures are focused on different areas pertaining to their specialization, which are relevant from the point view of the students.
The Alumni association has plans to conduct voluntary blood donation camps, providing financial assistance to the poor students, etc.,
