4.2 The procedure of the Man-in-the-middle attack detection

Tomadas en conjunto, nuestras observaciones concuerdan con el rol propuesto para las poligalacturonasas en la degradación de la pared celular hacia el final de la maduración de los frutos carnosos. Postulamos además, que la actividad de PG contribuye significativamente al ablandamiento de frutilla y que su nivel de expresión es diferente en cultivares que presentan diferentes velocidades de ablandamiento del fruto. Una menor firmeza del fruto correlaciona con un mayor grado de expresión de PG durante la maduración.

El gen objeto de este estudio, FaPG1, produce dos transcriptos

mediante splicing alternativo, lo cual daría lugar a una proteína funcional con actividad poligalacturonasa (FaPG1) y a una variante truncada, muy probablemente sin actividad enzimática. La expresión relativa de estas dos variantes, FaPG1 y T-PG, es diferente en cultivares con firmeza contrastante.

De este modo, los cultivares que producen frutos más firmes acumulan preferentemente la variante T-PG durante la maduración, mientras que los

cultivares que producen frutos más blandos expresan mayoritariamente la variante funcional FaPG1.

Finalmente, cabe destacar que el etileno ejercería un efecto positivo no sólo sobre la expresión de PG, sino sobre otros aspectos de la maduración de frutilla no relacionados con el ablandamiento, tales como acumulación de antocianinas, azúcares y aumento de la actividad PAL. Esto indica que el etileno es capaz de modificar diversos aspectos relacionados a la maduración de la frutilla, y sugiere que es necesario reevaluar su posible rol en la regulación de la maduración de este fruto no-climatérico.
