When you want to update only the 3ware RAID controller driver and not the firmware, you can use the steps below. The steps for updating the driver are somewhat different under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Follow the appropriate steps below, depending on the version of Windows you are running. (Windows XP steps begin on page 140.)
To update the 3ware driver under Windows 2000
1 Download and extract the driver files, as described on page 132 2 Backup any critical data prior to updating the 3ware driver. 3 Log in to your system as system administrator.
4 From the Start menu, click Settings and open the Control Panel window. 5 In the Control Panel window, double-click on the System icon.
6 Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager tab. 7 Open the SCSI and RAID Controllers selection.
8 Locate and double-click on the applicable 3ware Escalade Series SATA RAID Controller. The 3ware Escalade 9000 Series SATA RAID Controller Properties pop-up menu appears.
9 Click the Driver tab (see Figure 50).

10 Click the Update Driver… button.

12 Once you reach the Upgrade Device Driver screen display shown in Figure 52, be sure to select “Display a list of know drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver.” Afterwards, click Next and follow the instructions.

13 The Select the Device Driver dialog appears (see Figure 53). Click on the Have Disk… button.
14 The Install from Disk (Figure 54) dialog appears. If you created a driver diskette, insert it now. Then type the correct path name in Copy
manufacturer’s files from: near the bottom of the box. (A: if using a diskette in the A drive.)

15 The Select the Device Driver dialog box appears (see Figure 55). Click on the appropriate driver name (i.e., Escalade 9000 ATA RAID
Controller) listed in the dialog box to highlight it. Then click Next. Be sure to select the correct driver name, otherwise the driver upgrade will not be successful. The Start Device Driver Installation screen appears (see Figure 56).

16 Click Next to start the driver installation.
17 If the Digital Signature Not Found screen appears, click Yes to continue and follow the instructions to complete the driver installation.
18 The final upgrade driver screen should appear (Figure 57), followed by a progress bar which appears briefly, then by a System Settings Change dialog.
To update the 3ware driver under Windows XP
(Note that during this process, you will step through driver installation wizards twice.)
1 Download and extract the driver files, as described on page 132 2 Backup any critical data prior to updating the 3ware driver. 3 Log in to your system as system administrator.
4 From the Start menu, open the Control Panel window.
5 In the Control Panel window, double-click on the System icon. 6 Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager tab. 7 Open the SCSI and RAID Controllers selection.
8 Locate and double-click on the applicable 3wareSerial ATA RAID Controller. The 3ware Escalade 9000 Series ATA RAID Controller Properties pop-up menu appears.
9 Click the Driver tab (see Figure 58).

12 When you reach the Hardware Update Wizard screen display shown in Figure 60, be sure to select “Don’t search, I will choose the driver to install.” Afterwards, click Next and follow the instructions.

13 The Select the Device Driver dialog appears (see Figure 61). Click on the Have Disk… button.

16 If the Digital Signature Not Found screen appears, click Yes to continue and follow the instructions to complete the driver installation.
17 The Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog appears, after which you may be prompted to reboot the machine.
18 Shortly afterwards, or after the machine reboots, the following dialog appears, informing you that Windows has found new hardware (Figure 64).

19 Click Next and follow the prompts on the screen to install a second driver. 20 When the second Completing the Found New Hardware screen appears,
click Finish.
