Student Statistics HESA Equality data analysis

Gender by level and mode

In general, as can be seen in the graph below, female students outnumber male students. The exceptions to this were in postgraduate research PT and postgraduate taught FT which are small categories.

Degree class by gender

A greater proportion of females achieved first class degrees (13.6% compared to 10.2% of males). However, this was reversed when it came to upper second class degrees. 41.7% of males achieved this whereas 35.8% of females did so. 51.9% of males achieved a first or 2.1 which is more than the 49.4% of females.

Degree class by age

The proportions of firsts and upper seconds did not vary much with age although the youngest students did show the best achievement.

The Equality and Diversity Advisory Group (EDAG) monitors the way in which the strategic objectives from the Equality and Diversity Statement are monitored. EDAG prepares an Annual Report by collating data from across the Institution regarding impact assessment of policies, procedures, guidance and regulatory matters in respect of equality. This student complaints data will be considered by this group as part of the Annual Report.
