A message from our Principal :
Hi Friends,A day doesn’t go by where I don’t take a moment to reflect upon, and be thankful for, the wonderful qualities of our students.
A great example of this happened at Athletics on Tuesday. The circular relay is a high-pressure situation, the whole school is watching and you are racing for your team, not just for yourself so there is a heightened feeling of responsibility. You can see the adrenaline kick in as they line up in their positions and wait for the horn to blow. No-one wants to be the one to let their team down so they put in every ounce of effort and push their legs and their lungs to their bursting points. But of course, in a race, there has to be a loser. Sometimes the other team is faster, that is the way of the world, and when you cross that finish line exhausted you feel a bit more vulnerable than usual, a bit more emotional. This happened to a young girl on Tuesday, where narrowly beaten, she sat down disappointed and a little upset. The crowd didn’t notice, their attention had moved on to the next race, but one of her bigger brothers did. He moved over to her, put his hand on her shoulder, looked her in the eye and then whispered in her ear “you did good”. No-one apart from me heard it. Her face lit up as he moved away to sit back with his friends. A three second action turned disappointment into elation.
It is easy to focus on the negatives, but there are golden moments, on even ordinary days that give the soul a little lift.
Athletics Day Jackson Gray is a legend. The hours that he puts in after school to ensure the kids get to experience the athletics day is far beyond what is expected of a teacher but year in and year out he does it without complaint. The day, even without the support of our wonderful parents, ran smoothly which is a testament to Jackson. The LCS spirit was on display and there were simply too many examples of great sportsmanship to name them all. What a great day!
World Teacher’s Day World Teacher’s Day (Friday 30th October) is a chance to recognise the amazing job our teachers do every day. Teaching is such an emotionally draining job. There are many nights where we wake up and can’t get back to sleep as we try to work out how we can better support a challenging student, or how we can help a student who doesn’t believe they can learn and doesn’t want to come to school. It is a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows as we experience, by proxy, the thrills and spills of learning with our students. It is not a 9:00am-3:30pm job (contrary to popular belief) and in a country school, where the roles and responsibilities are shared between fewer hands, the work load is almost endless. The staff at LCS, without exception, are A grade. Their effort does not go unnoticed and on behalf of the whole school community, I thank them for all that they do. Curriculum Day/Melbourne Cup Just a reminder that the students will have a 4 day weekend coming up (Monday is a curriculum day and Tuesday is a public holiday). Sorry school staff, you are still expected at school on Monday! Kind Regards,
