No. 11 27th August, 2020

From the Principal—Mr Jamie Feeney

As crazy as it seems to be saying this at the end of August, COVID is still impacting on what we’re doing at Northview!

Over the next few weeks, the teaching staff will be exploring a variety of online learning

platforms by running our staff meetings

through a different one each week. We’ll then choose one which best meets our community’s needs. We’ll then have time to teach our children (and ourselves!) how to use the platform. I’ll also invite parents one year group at a time to take them through how the platform works, so you’ll know what’s coming in the event of a sudden lockdown. There will of course be an offline option, but my recommendation would be that everyone engage in the online version if at all possible. It will be much more effective, and will provide additional support to

the children which just isn’t available through paper. I’ll be sending out a text survey shortly (accompanied by an email explanation) to determine what kind of devices and networks our families would have access to in the event of school closure.

We’re still asking adults to stay away from the school to help with social distancing. With tennis happening on Tuesday and Wednesday morning before school, I know some parents are

reluctant to let their young children walk to the courts unaccompanied, and so are driving down the driveway on the

northern side of the school. The driveway is quite narrow, and I have some concerns about congestion with multiple cars coming and going at the same time each morning. To give parents another option, I’ll be waiting to walk the children to the tennis courts at the front of the school from 7:30am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so feel free to drop them off to me at the stop, drop and go.

And on that note, there seems to have been some confusion with our parent teacher interviews. We are trying to limit on-site interviews. Teachers have indicated on your child’s report card if they would like to meet with you, which indicates that there’s something specific they would like to discuss with you. Where possible, we’re asking that these interviews happen over the phone. If you have any queries about your interviews, please contact your child’s teacher.

Regards, Jamie Feeney SCHOOL OFFICE HOURS 08:00AM to 03:30PM

A NOTE FROM YOUR

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER

School photos are almost upon us again! The school has engaged MSP Photography to create our school records this year and you are invited to purchase prints of your child.

On photo day, every student will be photographed regardless of whether you are purchasing or not. Your child will bring home a personalised order envelope from the photographers. Please take care to

read and follow all the instructions carefully. This will ensure your order is processed smoothly and efficiently and will help you to avoid any late fees.

You will have the option to order online or with cash in your student’s envelope. Please take care to follow the instructions carefully.

Additional order envelopes are available from the school office for separated parents, blended families

and grandparents. You will need to collect these on or before photo day and give it to the

photographer on photo day. Be sure to write “Mum’s order” or “Dad’s order” on top of your envelope.

COVID 19 NOTICE

Due to the current social distancing health directive proscribed by law, school photographers are obligated to social distance from all students, school staff and parents whilst visiting your school. This is a hard and fast rule that we cannot break or bend. As a result of this requirement, it means

that we have had to remove any traditional group photos (including sibling photos) from our offerings until such time as social distancing requirements are lifted.

We are truly sorry for any disappointment that this causes and appreciate your understanding that these circumstances are outside of our control.

As school staff are unable to help with photography enquiries or payments, please direct your questions and comments directly to MSP Photography by phoning

4921 3355 or to [email protected]

Thank you for working with us through these unusual times and we look forward to a great photo day.
