ENTORING TEACHERS IN PRISON EDUCATION Samenvatting:

The aim of this project is to collect experiences and exchange methodologies in mentoring teachers in prison education. A mentoring program contributes to the quality of the practice of new and experienced teachers, not merely their retention in a special environment as a correctional facility. Moreover, the experiences of other Grundtvig projects on prison education shows that an on-going, comprehensive mentoring program could go a long way toward achieving the broader potential of stimulating students and teachers towards prison education.

This project wants to focus on two major kinds of support which are considered necessary by researchers and practitioners: psychological support and instruction-related support (Feiman-Nemser, 1999). Both categories of support have been found critical for new teachers who come to an array of new responsibilities with little time and few resources to direct toward transitioning into those responsibilities. The results will lead to a workshop on M_TIPE, dissemination all the materials produced on both paper and multimedia supports and published on the project website.

Samenvatting:

The project addresses to the unemployed 50+ adults who have no family, adults who are living in nursing homes or/and to seniors without a basic education; to groups of adults who are disadvantaged from social, economic and cultural points of view, and helps them to become active and share their experience.

2013 is the Year of the Active Citizenship and we would like, through various activities described in this application form, to motivate the adults to learn and acquire new skills. They will learn and have the opportunity to communicate into a foreign language, to use multimedia and computers in order to obtain audio-visual materials and promote the intercultural education. Social inclusion is also assured. The adults will realize in common sets of audio-visual materials and other didactic materials such as puppets embodying historical or literary characters, comics etc. Legends, culture and traditions, puppet theatre, drawing, painting, singing, traditional handmade objects and languages will be promoted by the target groups/trainees through artistic programmes, workshops and shows developed by the partner organizations in collaboration with primary and secondary schools and local authorities to help the institutionalized children/pupils or without parents/grandparents to avoid social exclusion.

In this way the adults play the role of grandparents, integrate themselves in a new social environment, start a new life and can even find new jobs and live a family life.

Information clubs and workshops will be set in order to assure the communication among the members of the target group and help them work together at European level.

Diversity will be promoted through a well-organized management in order to assure a high level of the non-formal and informal education.

Samenvatting:

Isn't it boring visiting different cities within EU and finding the same articles in the same shops? In this project we intend to design unique handcrafted accessories utilizing traditional craft techniques but oriented to contemporary demands.

We want to attract people to handcrafted products, so that these will become more popular, part of everyday life, and most of all desirable, which will encourage consumers to further their interest and carry out research on the heritage of handcraft.

Our project partners share many common problems, isolation of ageing population, many of them with low self-esteem in this world of growing digital demands and a lack of individuality - everybody looks the same. On the other hand partners have a lot of unique skills and crafts to teach to help avoid these problems.

With project activities partners intend to work on these problems and further to raise the quality of non-formal education and to make this education more accessible and attractive through project activities on both a non-formal and informal basis. On personal level the learners will raise their self- esteem by creating things of beauty and learn contemporary communication skills as they publicize their designs and share their new found knowledge.

Samenvatting:

The project demonstrates the opportunities of the solidarity-based economy for the improvement of the life quality of the citizens and for more active citizenship. It reveals the crucial contribution of the adult education for this purpose.

Solidarity-based economy is a collective term for a numerous different prototypes, initiatives to shape economic structures and processes on a solidary and public welfare orientated base. They orientate themselves to the European values as dignity of man, confidence, cooperation, mutual help and self-initiative. For the citizens they offer the opportunity to shape their life environment in an active and solidary manner. To do this they need social and civic competences, which are strengthened and improved by acitivating and participatory learning arrangements of the adult education.

The main aim is to use the opportunities of the adult education, above all the citizenship education for successful learning processes of solidarity-based economy.

For this purpose established, innovative and proved issues, contents, good-practice-examples of solidarity-based economy, didactic conceptions, methods and tools will be identified, collected, compared and proved. The results of the research and of the dialogue about the transfer into another EU member states and into the pan European context will be collected in a European tool-kit. It contains detailed strategies, suggestions and hints, how in the EU successful learning processes of social and civic competences can by carried out.

The project is a contribution to foster the perception of the European Union as a community based on solidarity.

It combines partners from the countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Romania.

ESSONS LEARNED FROM LOCAL ENERGY INITIATIVES

Samenvatting:

The partnership aims to exchange methods to recruit and instruct adult citizens involved in local energy initiatives with special attention to involve vulnerable and/or less educated citizens. All over Europe citizens are involved in local initiatives on energy efficiency and renewable energy but many times there is a shortage of knowledge and expertise on the one hand and on the other hand one reaches always the same already convinced and motivated groups. The project wants to make an inventory of the existing recruitment and education methods used in the partner areas and the partners shall together detect the most effective approaches for subordinated groups. This will be the base for a brochure on good practices of recruitment and education methods on energy at local level for adults in general and with a special attention to vulnerable groups. The brochure will be disseminated via training organisations, energy agencies, ngo's and (international/national) umbrella organizations of local authorities and ngo's. Local support by citizens is the best guarantee for Europe to achieve the EU 20/20/20 objectives. Successful education methods can deliver a considerable contribution to this EU policy.

ONFORMAL TRAINING

-

PROGRAMME FOR SPECIAL

DISADVANTAGED YOUNG ADULTS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF DROP

-

OUT IN FORMAL

EDUCATION Samenvatting:

Currently more than six million young people leave school or vocational training without a certificate. These young people have great difficulty in finding a job, are more likely to be unemployed and become dependent on benefits. Given the current demographic change, EU countries cannot afford this huge waste of talent und competences. The dropout rate of young people from migrant families is on average twice as high as for native youth. And boys break up with school or vocational training more often as compared with girls.

In order to achieve a core target of the Europe 2020 strategy the European Commission presented an action plan on 31 January 2011. It aimed to support the Member States to reduce school drop outs. Three measures are at the core of the strategy: prevention, intervention and compensation measures. The compensation measures are a „second chance" for learning and provide opportunities for young adults to find a re-entry into education or vocational training. European society has its own rules of cohabitation and behaviour and those who disregard them are exposed to exclusion.

The idea of this project was developed in relation to the European context mentioned above and to search creative ways to integrate students and reduce the dropout rate. Together with European partners we aim to give disadvantaged youth the opportunity of gaining positive cross border experiences which are challenges which these young people do not face in their everyday life. Also the teachers working in “The second chance” programme need a good training for using various methods of motivation and approach. We believe that extraordinary non-formal learning experiences can be used as a stabilizing element for Formal learning.

DEVELOPMENT OF ADULTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

THROUGH THE

ART

S

Samenvatting:

The name of the project 'ART-is' stands for Inclusion and Self-development (transformation, self-fulfilment) of adults with learning disabilities through the (performing) ARTS. The LP initiator/coordinator is Belgium.

This project will be a partnership of European organizations who work with adults with learning disabilities in the field of performing arts (theatre, dance, music,...). On the level of trainers, we want to exchange methodologies, share best practice and learn from each other and also create output that has a high quality. On the level of learners (all with special needs), we want to create opportunities to meet and to stimulate their cultural participation and also their personal development and individual fulfilment. We will create an online platform to disseminate our learning outcomes, take part in a conference on arts and learning disabilities and invite a research partner to evaluate the project. In this process we'll all be involved and some steps will even be initiated by adults with learning disabilities. We will organize festivals that include performances, workshops and meetings with trainers and learners - coordinators/project managers, artists with AND without learning disabilities - from all the partner organizations.

UROPE

Samenvatting:

"Move Performing Arts: meeting, workshop, new creativity spread around Europe" is an innovative project in the field of education and art learning.

It's a net of connections, a new net of learners, teachers, organizations involved in several events in different countries, devoted to reinforce competences of adults and young people concerning acting and performing arts, as means of communications on the scene and in life. The project is going to trace a map of acting training in Europe. The diffusion of a modern concept of acting pedagogy, and its merging with local problems and tendencies- esthetical as well as political, social and cultural- is a fascinating maze built on the living experiences of teachers, directors, actors, who enacted a constant migration since Stanislavsky’s time. This is an international project about acting pedagogy and active participation through art and group creativity. The original idea is giving an update on the state of the art to adults/students/professionals and teachers. The former can find an opportunity to meet different methods and create their own paths to professional and artistic activity. The latter are asked to share their experiences in practical workshops, but even in a theoretical reflection about their roots, effectiveness of their teaching in a foreign context. New tendencies. The goal is to create an innovative contest supporting European mobility, in which adults can share creative experiences, reflect on new tendencies of acting in their country and in a wider community, and go deeper in the opportunity to build a common learning process, based on interaction and participation. Thus, wherever the net can find a responsive reality, as it is with actual partners, more meetings and workshops can be organized: a new impulse for art community.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISES FOSTERING IMPROVEMENT AND

INNOVATION ON SOCIAL INCLUSION Samenvatting:

This partnership is focused on the role of social enterprises, namely WISE’s (work integration social enterprises), and other social and solidarity initiatives in promoting social inclusion. Partners want to strengthen their international cooperation on this subject, as well as to learn with each other. Our aim is to achieve a wider perspective on the European scenario in order to foster improvement and innovation in the performance of stakeholders’ projects and to contribute to consolidate pathways of vulnerable groups into social inclusion.

Two main issues will be addressed: 1) the challenges that social enterprises and professionals working in the field of socio-professional integration are facing due to the transformation of the models of intervention in this field; 2) how can WISE’s and other initiatives aimed at promoting social inclusion through work, can benefit from trends in the wider field of promotion of social entrepreneurship and innovation (i.e. enhancing favourable market and commercial environments; services to support social business start-ups; tools to account social results and impacts; lobbying for better public policies; institutional cooperation at the national and international levels).

In the end, this project wishes to reinforce the knowledge and skills of its stakeholders to deliver services and potentiate positive impacts in the field of social inclusion and of socio-professional integration in particular; to enhance last longing cooperation within international networks of organizations and professionals working for capacity building of social enterprises; and share and disseminate project results and products (6 newsletters) at local, national and international level. ULTURE Samenvatting:

Starting point is the Care&Culture production in the Netherlands (https://vimeo.com/518952466). In this project we aim at a strong cultural exchange between old people and the community in which they live. We will bring senior citizens out of their isolation. We will invite them to participate in arts/culture (music, dance, theatre, visual arts).

Seniors will become artists/ participants in an intergenerational arts group.

Younger generations (adults, young adults, children) will play an active role to establish an intergenerational dialogue.

We will exchange experiential knowledge and methods at European level in working with older people in different contexts, with artistic tools, with professionals, non- professionals and elderly. The ambition is to develop a collective learning process on 'how to learn, teach, encourage': being a professional won't say that you are a (good) teacher.

Methods:

- Each partner works on a performance/ show moment in his home country. This performance is the result of this intense Lifelong Learning (workshop) traject (adult education)

- Partners work on workshops in senior houses/ senior clubs/ musea etc. in an intergenerational way and with the whole community. In the end all the participants are brought together in a performance/ highpoint/ show moment in the care house next door.

- Each partner will visit performances/ meetings in partner countries as well as the small festivals: in these festivals (each 3 days) , we exchange experiences, run workshops in the field of arts, have expert and exchange meetings on the Care & Culture nexus. We'll do research on the mutual influences between culture and care.

The results, bundled in films and photo productions, will be tools for dissemination and learning on care and culture nexus.

Samenvatting:

As global economy and climate change put more stress on the rural communities, more people move to cities with expectations of better living and working conditions, deteriorating valuable know-how on sustainable living practices throughout Europe. On the other hand, people in cities are stressed by consumerism and lost their ties with the rural environment, which increases their ecological footprint. Knowledge and experience in rural communities are too valuable to be lost in today’s sustainability challenge as they have potential solutions for most of the problems faced in cities like energy consumption, waste management, emissions, food security. Back to Rural aims to bring together partners from different European countries to discover, learn and confront sustainable living practices, necessary skills, experiences, contexts and projects.

BAR’s objective is to create models, projects and practices which are sustainable in ecological, economic, cultural and social perspectives and preserve existing models to enhance the rural knowledge & culture and promote sustainable rural lifestyles by educating adults who are keen to setting up a new sustainable life in the rural. Enhanced knowledge and skills learned from the collaborative approach will be transferred via courses in each of the partner countries and a knowledge sharing platform that will keep the communication alive in between mobility sessions. With this approach BAR will be the back bone for partners working on sustainability practices in the rural and barriers for adults who are seeking a sustainable life in the rural will be removed.

Samenvatting:

- Most European countries experienced wars and other conflicts in the last 100 years.

- We want to go "towards" a shared and peaceful Europe and accepted European citizenship.

The message of the past will be the base for a dialogue on the memory of wars and the value of peace. Aspects of racism, extremism and discrimination will also be focused. The main concept is an intergenerational dialogue. Groups including young people and senior citizens will establish a dialogue, build up a learning process on wars and other conflicts in Europe mainly coming from the oral histories of the elderly, and develop together methods of formulating a peace message.

Besides the regional intergenerational and intercultural level, the European level is very important for the project. The methods of storytelling and local research will create an own view on wars and its consequences, expressed by European citizens, and a common peace message for future Europe. The historic moment of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I in 2014 will be used as a symbolic date to present this message. In spring 2014 the project will come together in Brussels with the existing project 2WARdS Europe to express a common European statement for peace and on the value of permanent (intergenerational) dialogue in conflict handling.

A second track of the project is to learn (on organization level) about methods for innovative and creative learning processes on intergenerational work, using storytelling, images, local research, artistic approaches, to share expression on a participatory way.

Outcomes

- Local productions on war memory and peace.

- A written documentation with 2 main tracks: learning methods and message of peace. - Open internet platform on the topic.

EST PRACTICES OF SUCCESSFUL ACTIVITIES FOR

IMMIGRANTS TO PRACTICE THE LANGUAGE OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT Samenvatting:

A first major objective for newly settled immigrants is mastering the language of the new country. Therefore most immigrants follow language classes, but it appears they do not practice the language much outside the classroom. The rules (grammar) can be learned through materials and classes, but enriching the vocabulary and perfecting the idiomatic usage, as well as attaining an acceptable level of fluency will need to come from independent study and practice in a native environment, i.e., outside the classroom. This means that the immigrant is in an unique situation: if he or she goes out, he or she is immersed in the new language and culture. The learner has to take responsibility for his or her own learning, and to take part in learning outside the classroom.

This outside the classroom learning dramatically speeds up the language acquisition. However, an additional problem teachers are facing is how to evaluate the learners' progress and how to validate their learning outcomes outside the classroom.

The aim of this learning partnership is:

- to collect experiences and exchange methodologies and best practices of learning outside the classroom;

- to develop an awareness by teachers and learners of the positive impact that experiences outside the classroom can have on language learning;

- to provide teachers guidance on activities for learning outside the classroom; - to develop students' self-evaluation skills

- to make an inventory of best practices/projects;

- to test and evaluate the tool developed by Level 5 (www.reveal-eu.org)

The results will consist of a database of good practices/projects, a conference, the dissemination of all the materials produced on paper and multimedia supports (CD Rom, video, …) and publication thereof on the project website.

A PLACE AND ITS STORY

Samenvatting:

The HEE Project includes museums in Sweden, Ireland, Latvia, Estonia, Iceland and community organisations in Belgium, Germany, Finland, Poland, N Ireland.

HEE plans to pilot an innovative outreach method of actively engaging adults in learning about the past, applying that learning to the present in order to: a) engage in learning marginalised groups (older people, unemployed), b) promote new learning, skills, literacy, ICT, c) explore problem issues and resolve conflict, d) develop dialogue, skills for active citizenship and e) build a better future. The method is based on ' a place and its story' using 'storytelling according to ethical principles'. Learners will visit a local place, explore / share the stories of that place, identify issues then and now and evaluate the process. This outreach method is adapted for adults from the successful schools programme led by Kalmar Museum. It provides an innovative way to actively engage adults in learning based on activity, enquiry, dialogue.

Adults with poor educational attainment, differing language/ cultural backgrounds will be supported to actively engage through new approaches including social networking / visual and digital storytelling/ ICT enabling those with poor literacy skills to fully take part.

The method enables older people to tell their stories, share life experiences and knowledge with families, communities, across generations, promoting skills, confidence to take an active citizen role. Staff will be trained in the HEE Method enabling them to a) identify local sites, b) source archives and artefacts, c) design appropriate new learning materials (digital / visual), d) lead a process of enquiry/ learning/dialogue, e) engage adults in new learning/problem-solving/active citizenship and f) monitor / evaluate the process.

Samenvatting:

The challenges of future adult learning, are requiring new approaches that collaborative learning using ICT can provide. Many programmes emphasise the importance of life-long learning and a constant willingness to learn new skills in order to raise an individual’s aptitude for employment. However, scarce motivation for learning, school leaving and few opportunities of inclusion in the labour market are barriers that especially disadvantaged groups such as young unskilled adults or older people need to face. The use of social networks as a tool for teaching and learning is being tested in some educational contexts with positive results.

In the educational context, Web 2.0 allows defining new roles for the teacher and the student where the teacher manages the knowledge together with the students, provides guidance and helps to learn. The student has an active role, driving his/her own learning, he becomes more responsible, motivated and collaborative. With this project the partnership made of organizations of Spain, Italy, Belgium, Greece and Ireland from different institutions of formal, non-formal and informal education have decided to create an international virtual space of learning co-operation , aiming to exchange ideas between trainers and teachers in the Tourism as being the mayor industry and larger employer for most of the partners, and also in the new technologies applied to education, to help provide adults with access to the information and knowledge society, to increase employment opportunities and therefore reducing risks of social exclusion.

Samenvatting:

In a context of recession, growing unemployment and rising inequality, this project aims to share information on some of the current methods of intervention with disadvantaged people, to reflect together on the partners’ experiences in terms of key skills training, and to implement in our organisations the good practices tested by our European colleagues. These will include educational innovations (for example: body expression, creative expression, etc.), use of ICT and new media with learners and partnerships with employers and local communities.

Our project objective is to bring together the learning and teaching methods and practices on key competencies used throughout the partnership, and indirectly by their local partners, to create a platform where other professionals in the field of adult learning can share their innovative methods and opinions, to gain greater recognition and awareness of our work at a European level. Through the project we aim to produce an e-book (downloadable through the website) and an online platform for professionals in the sector to share their knowledge and experiences.

The partnership's target groups are trainers from organisations who work with socially disadvantaged young adults, particularly from migrant and traveller communities.

Samenvatting:

The demand for regional foods in Europe is increasing significantly (UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, 2008) for various reasons, whether related to consumer behaviour, health, rural and urban economic development, economic and environmental resilience, reduction of carbon footprint, and farm sustainability. However, this growing demand is often not being met, due to complexities regarding logistics, policy, and vertical marketing systems. This forces small-scale farmers into economic precariousness, and often out of the workforce, when they could be organizing their production to meet this demand. This project will focus on emerging alternative food distribution systems (AFDS), a concept that encompasses community supported agriculture (CSA), short distribution chains, and cooperatives. The proposed partnership organisations include CSAs, AMAP (Association to maintain small-scale family farms), farmer and caterer’s cooperatives and organisations involved in farmer training, knowledge transfer and support services. One of its main objectives is to support adult and lifelong learning to support people in increasing their skills and innovation base. The project will look primarily at practical solutions to logistical problems within short chain circuit supply systems and will identify the essential building blocks of regional distribution systems within the relationship from farmer to consumer. It will harness and crystallise the diverse knowledge already existing within the group through extension practice and skill-share. It will identify gaps in routes to markets for producers and suppliers, and will identify points of access for consumers and members of civil society.

It will aim to share the resources and tools it creates with a wide audience in Europe. Samenstelling van het consortium:

Samenvatting:

Since the first Homeless World Cup in 2003 a number of national and local street-soccer projects have been developed all over Europe, offering sports-activities to people living under critical social conditions, i.e. homeless people, clients of drug therapies, street paper vendors and asylum-seekers. In many countries the building of regular game operations was accompanied by scientific research on the effects on the participants and by working out training-concepts considering the special demands of the target groups.

The success of street-soccer-activities, measured by the number of participants and the length of participation, depends on well-educated coaches, who are able to guide their teams in a motivating manner and on the background of well-established methods. Consequently the knowledge and the experience which have been accomplished by single projects should be passed on to a network, where they are incorporated into an overall concept and serve as the base for a systematically coach's training. The addressees of the trainings are players (participants), in the first place. A sportive issue offers a different and interesting sort of access to learning and qualification and the participants can use coaching as a chance to adopt a responsible and active role in a group. The "Street Soccer Coach Concept" is also directed to social-workers, who can use it as an advanced training, and it is open to all members of the target group, independent of their soccer skills or their physical condition, so that it promotes the participation of elderly people, as well as it is supposed to make a motivating offer to women. Regular conferences will ensure that new ideas and results of research will be shared among the network-partners and that the concept will be kept up to date. Samenstelling van het consortium:

Samenvatting:

Grey Matters is a 2-year-project involving community-based educational arts companies in 6 European countries that currently engage older people in informal learning and social engagement through theatre and the arts. The project will share learning between the staff of the partner companies about the different methodologies and approaches used to engage older people in learning through community theatre projects. The project will also examine and evaluate the learning achieved by participants of all ages, and the positive benefits and social impacts for participants engaged in community theatre practice.

The project will involve each company engaged with a group of older people who will create and develop a performance. Each company will tour its performance to another partner country, and most partners will host a performance or meeting. In year one, partners will share work and existing methodologies. In year two, partners will use learning from each other in the development of new work with elders and intergenerational groups, and share their results with each other through regular internet meetings, newsletters, performances and partner meetings. Film clips from all partners will be compiled by one partner into a 'compilation', demonstrating the new methodologies. A gathering at the end of the two year period will bring together staff and some participants, from all six companies to share and examine learning from the process through discussions, workshops and sharing of work. Evaluation of the learning achieved through the project (including short films, blogs) will be available through partner websites and through seminars held at external international gatherings in 2014-15 onwards.

Samenvatting:

The WeDO2 partnership aims at supporting the exchange of learning experiences and good practices between organisations working in the field of formal, non-formal or informal adult education (older people and/or informal carers' organisations, universities, training centers, service providers) to improve the ability of different stakeholders (older people, informal caregivers, service providers) to cooperate in planning and delivering long-term care services and so improve quality of life for older people in need of care and assistance. Moreover, based on the existing European Quality framework for long-term care services developed in the WeDO project (2010-2012) it will seek to develop with a participatory approach new educational tools (an online train the trainer toolkit, learning areas where trainings will be tested) adapted to different groups (older people, informal carers, service providers). The exchange of good practices, participatory approach, construction of the train-the-trainer toolkit, realisation of the innovative learning-areas and exploitation events will have a significant contribution for a durable activation and participation of different stakeholders in the process of ensuring quality long-term care.

Samenvatting:

The "European Encounters" partnership project aims to increase the sense of European togetherness by offering disadvantaged adult learners (older learners, refugees, immigrants, unemployed) opportunities to learn about the EU and explore partner countries' cultures to address social marginalisation through increased mobility opportunities, English and IT training, art workshops and, confidence/motivational training.

The main objective of the project is to give disadvantaged adults positive learning and cultural experiences and to motivate them to lifelong learning, to promote their mobility and longer term employability. Tutors will develop methods to engage/motivate adult learners through traditional and non-traditional teaching methods.

A common study programme will be developed with the partner organisations during initial and ongoing partnership meetings and will include cultural awareness about the European Union, the participating partner countries/organisations and our respective clients groups.

Each partner will organise courses for different learners during the project and most partners will organise at least one meeting in their own country. During the partnership meetings, presentations will be made about the host organisation and the region as a whole, as well as providing an opportunity to discuss the issues faced by learners.

Project partners are from Poland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and UK. Participants will experience new learning experiences during the project. European cooperation will help them share knowledge and understand other cultures better. Learners' mobility and motivation will be enhanced and indirectly, the project is also a way to combat prejudice, racism and xenophobia by raising awareness of a multi-cultural/multi-racial EU.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE

,

AND BETWEEN PRACTITIONERS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES Samenvatting:

In this project we intend to address the diagnostically, pedagogical and didactical challenges of speech and language therapists, psychologists, (specialized) teachers and other members of multidisciplinary teams regarding the needs of children with Specific Language Impairment, who grow up multilingual / multicultural. Schools and other educational institutions as well as speech therapy providing institutions are faced with complex situations when a multilingual child needs to be diagnosed, and based on that, a choice needs to be made for the right therapy, rehabilitation and pedagogical approach including speech therapy, language development and education. In addition, professional practitioners need specific tools in how to effectively incorporate the cooperation of parents in therapy and rehabilitation. Given the multicultural make-up of society in EU member states, in each of the participating partner countries similar challenges are faced and partial solutions are found, but little exchange of best practices is realised. The project aims at facilitating this exchange between professionals / their (vocational)training institutions, and informing applied researchers on core challenges faced by all involved stakeholders around the child. In addition, the project produces an inventory of best practices in all countries in (1) diagnostics, (2) pedagogical & multilingual therapy interventions and (3) involvement of parents in the pedagogical approach. Moreover best practice inventory will be disseminated within the respective national networks, the project results in a concrete gap analysis that is discussed among (specialized) teachers, speech therapists and researchers with the intention to continue working on this topic after finalization of this project.

Samenvatting:

In this project we would like to start up a new way of sharing European expertise on various subjects of language teaching. The idea, inspired by the Olympic flame, is to pass on the 'flame' of expertise on a subject (in this case vocabulary learning) from one European nation to the next. Every participating partner makes a digital platform in which they show their contribution to the topic. The ultimate outcome is a circle of platforms with interesting information (ideas, good practices, articles, tools) on the subject at hand. End users entering the platform of their own country, will be motivated to look in other European countries for more expertise.

We will apply this Flame method to the concrete topic of autonomous vocabulary learning (henceforth called AVL): even though a lot of opportunities are available (tools and input on the internet, a target language environment in L2-settings) students rarely practise vocabulary efficiently on their own. The project therefore aims at investigating how we can:

- lower the thresholds for autonomous learning (accessibility of tools and activities) - really motivate students to work on their vocabulary throughout their daily lives

- find ways to make autonomous vocabulary learning more efficient and suitable to learner variables Through cooperation and exchanges between the European partners, each Flame holder will be inspired to provide ideas, tools and practices related to the questions above. The expertise, drawn from each participant's own professional background, will be interconnected on a European scale. This working method is not only valuable for the investigation of the problem at hand, but is indeed subject-independent and can serve as a model for future cooperation between European countries. Samenvatting:

“Pizza Effect” is a project coordinated by The Lotus Trust, an educational, relief and development organization in the UK. There are nine European countries involved: United Kingdom, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Croatia, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. This project will unite adults around a common idea of healthy simple food, appreciation of one’s own and other's culture, and active social integration into the European community.

Through several cooking workshops, the partners will establish communication, encourage peer learning within target groups of adults, as well as intergenerational interaction. Using food as an integrating topic, the project aims to update the knowledge and skills of participating staff by improving their competencies necessary for managing organizations. Through a minimum of twelve international mobilities and six meetings, each partner will become familiar with large scale of practical adult training methods; improve their communication, fundraising and team-working skills. By means of informal learning and self-expressive activities based on relevant topics, the barriers limiting the adults’ social integration will be reduced, knowledge base will be renewed and adopted to modern circumstances, healthy lifestyles will be promoted, and cultural diversity and social inclusion will be expanded. The people most at risk of social exclusion (women, children, migrants, refugees, elderly, disabled people and those living in rural areas) will be included.

As a result of the project “Recipe book - Pizza Effect” with the descriptions of culture and way of life of participating countries will be published and distributed locally by partners.

Nevertheless whatever their number is, deaf individuals constitute an important part of our society. EU strives for achieving equality for all and human rights are universal regardless of sex, ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status such as deafness or any other disability. However, deaf people have many difficulties in their lives and cannot have access to all services as their peers. Sign language is their means to approach life, opportunities and education which are basic rights for everyone. Sign languages are also a crucial part in the multilingual diversity of the EU. Although deaf and hearing impaired individuals learn sign languages to be able to continue their lives in the best manner possible, most of the public and many public officials such as school teachers, hospital employees and government personnel are not trained in sign languages and they are not even made aware of the needs of the deaf.

This LP aims to make the public aware of the needs and rights of the hearing impaired and provide courses to teach sign language to public officials. The partners will work together to create a better environment for the future and will try to make the sound of silence heard by creating videos, a web site, informative materials and in general “awareness” about the urgency of the issue. It is very important that the deaf community will be granted the rights all EU citizens enjoy and this will only be possible through ensuring they are recognized, heard and able to communicate in order to access other important opportunities such as education and employment.
