FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions to Swedish Embassy/Consulate

General.

Question Answer

I would like to apply for residence permit

The best way is to submit an online application, for more information please refer to the website of the Swedish Migration Agency: www.migrationsverket.se

If you are unable to submit an online application, you can apply to an embassy or consulate-general in the country of residence. For information on how to proceed, please go to: http://www.swedenabroad.com/en- GB/Embassies/Nairobi/Work--Live-in- Sweden/Applying-for-a-residence- permit-to-move-to-a-close-relative-in-Sweden/

I would like to schedule an appointment for an interview

If you have submitted an online application for a residence permit, you can schedule an appointment after the Swedish Migration Agency has

informed you about this. It is important that you state your control or case number. To book your interview appointment, please send us an email on [email protected] I have a brother/sister, mother's or

father's sister/brother,

son/daughter who are adults and reside in Sweden. Can I apply for family reunion?

Normally residence permits are only provided to spouses and children below the age of 18.

In exceptional cases you can be granted a residence permit for moving to another close relative in Sweden who you have lived with in the country of origin. For example, this may apply if you are above the age of 18 and your parents reside here. You should be able

to prove that you lived together

immediately before your close relative moved to Sweden. The application should be submitted as soon as possible after your relative moved to Sweden and was granted a permanent residence permit.

Am I entitled to priority from the embassy?

No, you are not entitled to priority from the Embassy. When you schedule an appointment you will be given the first available appointment.

The Swedish Migration Agency no longer takes decisions in priority requests. All cases must be dealt with quickly and simply on the basis of facts. This means that similar cases should be dealt with in a similar manner with similar outcome.

I have an appointment with you, but I would like you to transfer my case to another embassy.

Your interview will be conducted by the Embassy or Consulate General in the country of your residence or in case there is no Swedish mission where you live, by the Embassy or Consulate General in the region responsible for handling you case.

What is the status of my case? If you have applied online, your application will first be processed with the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. When you receive communication on scheduling an appointment for an interview, you should contact the embassy or

consulate-general in the country of you residence or the Embassy/consulate in the region responsible for handling your case if there is no Swedish mission where you are residing. When the investigation has been completed, the case will be transferred to the Swedish Migration Agency again for them to take a decision. The waiting times are long as there are many

applicants for permits. See the Swedish Migration Agency's website for more

information.

You can check if a decision has been made regarding your case on the Swedish Migration Agency’s website. www.migrationsverket.se/statuskontroll I have received a residence permit

and need a residence permit card – leave finger prints and take

photographs – how can I proceed?

Find out how to receive your residence permit card here:

http://www.swedenabroad.com/en- GB/Embassies/Nairobi/Work--Live-in- Sweden/Applying-for-a-residence- permit-to-move-to-a-close-relative-in-Sweden/How-to-apply/

Has my residence permit card (UT card) arrived?

If you have provided biometrics, it takes approximately 4 weeks from the decision to produce and deliver the card to the embassy. If you have provided an email address in your application, you will receive an automatically generated email when your card has arrived at the Embassy. You then need to schedule an appointment for collection by sending an email with your case/control number to [email protected]. I would like to collect my

residence permit card from another embassy or consulate-general. Is this possible?

You should normally collect your residence permit card from the embassy or consulate-general where you took photographs and fingerprints. If you are unable to collect it there you can send an email to the embassy and request them to send the card to another embassy or to the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden where a relative who has a power of attorney can collect it.
