Summertime Adventures for Kids is a “hands-on” summer experience for youths ages 9 to 14. Class offerings are designed to share exciting, practical, creative, enjoyable and educational experiences in the following interest areas: arts/crafts, cooking, engineering, law & public safety, marine/environmental, strategic games and TV/media. Cape May County Technical School High School approved teachers will staff and administer all programs.
Each class is tailored to the age levels as stated in the class description. Session 1: Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17
Session 2: Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24 Time: 9:00am to 12:00noon
Registration begins Wednesday, May 13, and concludes Thursday, July 2, 2015. All registrations (in-person or via postal mail) are processed in the order in which they are received. Class sizes are limited. Please note: every attempt is made to avoid class cancelations, however, if a class has insufficient enrollment, the registration fee may be applied to another class or refunded.
How to register for classes:
In-person:Complete the attached registration/health history emergency information form (one registration form per child) and submit in-person to the Cape May County Technical School's Continuing Education Office #145 (located in the Tozour 100 Building) according to the following schedule:
Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm starting May 13, 2015. (No registration May 25, school closed)
In-person registrations may be paid with cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, credit or debit cards.
By postal mail:

Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Class sizes are limited.
A waiting list will be established for classes with full enrollments (note: waiting lists are not carried over to the following year).
Suggested ages have been determined by the nature of the program along with the instructor’s recommendations.
Refund requests will be granted on or before June 26 for any reason. Refund requests after June 26 (minus the supply fee, if applicable) will only be granted at the discretion of the administration.
Processing time for payment methods other than credit card is approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Credit card refunds will be processed within 5 to 7 business days of the date of withdrawal.
No refunds after the first meeting of class unless the Technical School cancels the class. Casual clothing is appropriate as well as recommended for all programs.
Students, as directed by the instructor, must wear/utilize proper safety equipment, clothing apparatus and approved eye protection.
The registration form may be duplicated for enrolling more than one student. (Only one student per form, please)
On the first day of each session, all students will meet at 9:00am in the Technical School's cafeteria, located in the Tozour Building Room 125, for a brief orientation. Parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend this orientation session.
Please be advised at the student/parent orientation meeting and on campus during the session, live animals may be present or part of a presentation made by our Marine Adventures instructors. On the final day of each session starting at 11:30am, family members and friends of all students are
welcome to visit the classroom to view/sample individual and class projects.
Adventure in Art
Create the “story of your life” on canvas by experimenting in a variety of art mediums such as watercolor, acrylic paint, papermaking and 3D collage. Students will learn about composition, principals of design and color theory applications to create their own life story through personal items collected as memorabilia. Please bring to class any souvenirs/collectibles you wish to use for a permanent project such as photographs, ticket stubs, sea shells, etc. Different items and textures are encouraged as well as individual creativity!

A Strategy Games dyssey: 2015
Engage your brain in a program which will enhance your critical thinking skills through fun and competitive strategy games from all around the world. Students will be challenged with a variety of easy to learn games and coached through gamesmanship tactics in the spirit of good sportsmanship. Some of the game offerings include: Chess (Standard & Chinese), Checkers, Risk, Connections, Blokus, Quoridor, All the Kings Men, Shuttles, Rumis, Othello, Fire & Ice, Quixo, Shogun, Labyrnith, Point Blank, Spy vs. Spy, Eureka, Pirateer, Traverse, Quatro, Pentago, Rumicub, Abalone and many more!

Automotive/Racer Model Building
Building model kits is a creative and constructive way to develop a possible lifelong hobby! Important skills are practiced such as patience, attention to detail, problem solving and following instructions. Students will apply these valuable skills to build three models to take home. Start to finish, a strong sense of accomplishment can be achieved through automotive model building. And, lots of fun, too!

Ceramics & Sculpture Adventure
Enter the world of creative arts! Students will experience a variety of hand-building methods including pinch, roll, coil, slam & twist techniques to create projects with non-firing, air dry clay. A variety of projects will be available to choose from including a story-telling tile, flower pot, animal & food
sculptures. On the last day of class, all projects can be painted to add that finishing touch! This class is perfect for aspiring sculptors or anyone interested in working with their hands to create one-of-kind, unique projects.

Crime Scene Investigation
Do you like a good mystery? Are you always trying to figure out who committed the crime and how they committed it? Now is your chance to put your crime solving skills to work as part of a crime scene investigation team. As a crime scene investigator, you will: investigate a crime scene, collect and analyze evidence, identify and arrest a suspect and participate in a criminal trial. There is a mystery out there waiting to be solved. Will you be the crime scene investigator that will solve it?

Fun with Foods
Enter the world of culinary arts! This class covers basic food preparation with an emphasis on healthy choices. Students will prepare and sample breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts and snacks. The program will also include recipe reading, correct measurement, care and usage of basic kitchen equipment as well as safety and sanitation. On the last day of class, students will prepare and serve a culinary dish to guests. Learn some new skills, be creative with foods, enjoy taste tests and have fun!

Fun with Sewing & Textiles
Do you like to work with fabrics? Students will learn hand-sewing techniques, apparel patchwork and develop products using gently-used materials. On the second day of class, please bring your choice of a pair of old jeans, old jacket or tote bag for a lesson in decorative patching. Bring an old T-Shirt for a special project (it’s a surprise!) and we will also be constructing a “Sock Monkey” from start to finish during the week. Any new or gently-used fabric you may have can be donated to assist students with projects. Join the fun!

Marine Adventures
Embark on a sea life adventure. Explore our local salt marsh and meet its inhabitants. Discover the interesting life cycles of fish, birds, crabs, clams as well as other animals that call the salt marsh home. Learn how to catch, handle and prepare delicacies of the estuaries such as soft & hard shelled crabs, clams, oysters and fish. Other class activities will include: constructing a crab pot, making fishing lures, learning to tie knots, seining, bird watching and eeling. This adventure takes students off the beaten path into hands-on discovery. Old clothes and sneakers are a must! Dress for getting wet and muddy. (A parental/guardian will need to sign a permission slip prior to the student participating in any marsh or boating activities.)

Robotics & Engineering Design
All systems go! Get geared up for an adventure in engineering design. Students will learn about the design process through the use of hands-on activities. We will have five, fun-filled days with activities and challenges that include but are not limited to: air & water rockets, basic robotics, structures, 3D design software and 3D printing. All projects the students build will be able to come home. Join us for an amazing engineering adventure!

T.V. “Behind the Scenes”
This is your chance to experience what goes on in the creation of a television production both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. You will be the news team, the camera crew and the stars as you produce different types of television shows in the studio as well as on location visiting other Summertime Adventures programs. Students will receive a DVD copy of their finished projects.

Directions to the Cape May County Technical School
The Cape May County Technical School is located in the Crest Haven Complex, Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway. The Continuing Education Office is located in the Tozour 100 Building.
From North:
a. Garden State Parkway South to Exit 11. Left onto Crest Haven Road.
b. Follow Crest Haven Road till it ends (approximately one mile) into our Technical School’s parking lot C. The Tozour building is on the left with parking available directly in front of the building. c. Enter the Tozour building. The Continuing Education Office #145 is the second door on the left. From South:
a. Garden State Parkway North to Exit 11 (Stay in right lane as you approach Exit 11). Make a right turn at Exit 11 onto Crest Haven Road.
b. Follow b & c directions above
You may also utilize Route 9, North or South, turn at the Cape May County Park & Zoo onto Crest Haven Road. Then follow the From North directions, b & c above.
Note: please be advised the Garden State Parkway & Crest Haven Road are under construction for the 2015 spring/summer season. As a result, traffic patterns entering/exiting the Crest Haven Complex and entrance into the school buildings may be adjusted. Please visit our website, www.capemaytech.com, for updated information.
