Asia’ top 25 women: Fan Hua, Lakshmi Iyer

Good performance and sound judgement are behind the promotions of the next two choices to feature on AsianInvestor’s second list of the 25 most infl uential women in Asian asset management.

Fan Hua is responsible for fi xed income and hedge fund investments at the $650 billion sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corporation (CIC), where the Colombia graduate has worked for the past fi ve years. CIC is increasing its exposure to alternative assets, and as such Fan is integral to its diversifi cation strategy.

We also feature Lakshmi Iyer, CIO for fi xed income at Kotak Mahindra Asset Management. Iyer is a role model in India’s asset management industry, having risen through the ranks from credit research at this leading mutual fund company. Now head of products, she is charged with authorising funds in all asset classes.

To celebrate, AsianInvestor is hosting a lunch to congratulate the winners. This is being staged in conjunction with AsianInvestor’s inaugural Women in Asset Management Forum www.womeninam.com, at which many of these winenrs will be present to discuss a series of industry topics.

Put a fair value on women in AM, says executives

Women need to embrace change, fi nd their confi dence and speak up, veteran female executives said during the AsianInvestor Women in Asset Management event in Hong Kong this week.

“When you think about commodities, talented [and] experienced women are some of the shortest

commodities in the world, and yet somehow they remain undervalued,” said Sheila Patel, chief executive offi cer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management International (GSAMI), during a panel session earlier this week.

Asia’ top 25 women: Munirah Khairuddin, Alexa Lam

A vision for the future is what connects the next two industry leaders to feature on AsianInvestor’s second list of the 25 most infl uential women in Asian asset management.

Both Munirah Khairuddin and Alexa Lam share a passion for their respective home markets and a heartfelt desire to see them develop.

Khairuddin runs CIMB-Principal Asset Management, the most regionally ambitious and successful of Malaysia’s homegrown fi rms. She has been instrumental in helping the fi rm to become a regional fund house as opposed to a domestic player, which she admits required a challenging shift in mindset.

Lam, meanwhile, has made her mark in driving fi nancial cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland China, as an architect of offshore RMB business and products, including RQFII and mutual recognition. Her work has helped to position Hong Kong as the world’s leading offshore RMB centre.

To celebrate, AsianInvestor is hosting a lunch to congratulate the winners. This is being staged in conjunction with AsianInvestor’s inaugural Women in Asset Management Forum www.womeninam.com, at which many of these winenrs will be present to discuss a series of industry topics.

AsianInvestor’s research project on the 25 most infl uential women in asset management comes after the International Women’s Day on March 8. Numerous nominations from around the region were received. Recognition and awarding of winners will take place on May 20 at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong. This will be staged along with AsianInvestor’s inaugural Women in Asset Management forum.
