It generally consists of the provisions and policies adopted by network administrators to prevent and control unauthorized access, and to have full control of the network. Network security includes components such as authentication, virtual private networks (VPN), firewall, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), intrusion detection systems (IDS), and converged security solutions such as unified threat management (UTM). Since network security includes multiple IT security solutions, the number of security components and the level of security provided depend on the type of network. For example, network security provided for a home computer could be a simple firewall, whereas for a small business it could be a firewall, IPS, and authentication; and for a large business it could be strong authentication, UTM, and next generation firewall (NGFW). The Global Network Security market is witnessing strong growth. Currently, the Americas is the main contributor; however, the Asia Pacific (APAC) region and Latin America are expected to emerge as strong contributors in this market.
