Telephone Remote Switch

(2)

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The telephone remote switch consists of three parts, which are the telephone modem that can be connected to the landline telephone network, the sockets that can be connected to the mains network (3 pieces) and a remote control. Remote control for the sockets (switch ON and OFF) can be ensured by a telephone modem via pressing the buttons of any landline or mobile phone set to tone mode (the mains voltage appearing at the output of the sockets can be switched on and off).

A four to eight digit numerical security code prevents unauthorized access. By entering the security code and then pressing the

*

or # button of the telephone the selected socket(s) can be switched on or off, so the devices connected to the sockets can be controlled remotely.

(3)

The sockets preserve the last command even after a power outage, so a power outage occurring during their operation do not disturb their functioning.

The sockets and the modem can be tuned together using the buttons with signs “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” of the remote control (see Section 2). The sockets can also be controlled without a telephone call, using their “on/off” button or using the “ON” or “OFF” button of the remote control with sign “A”, “B”, “C” or “D”. There is a defrosting thermostat connected to the buttons with sign “D”, wherewith the remote control provides a defrosting function in its environment without a telephone call or other manual intervention; it switches on/off the device (e.g. boiler) plugged into the socket connected to the “D” buttons at 7±0,5°C. If there is a need for defrosting (e.g. when controlling the central heating system), then use the buttons with sign “D” of the

(4)

remote control, otherwise (e.g. for controlling a sprinkler system) use the buttons with signs “A”, “B” and “C” to tune the sockets and the modem together.

2. ThINGS TO DO bEfORE uSE, bASIC SETTINGS • Insert the batteries into the telephone modem and into the remote

control.

• Connect the modem to the landline telephone network using a standard telephone wire through the “Line” connection point. A normal telephone device can be connected to the telephone network through the “Ext” connection point of the modem, which can be used to receive and to initiate calls.

(5)

2.1 Tuning the modem and the sockets together

IMPORTANT NOTICE! The sockets and the modem can be tuned together using the “OFF” buttons with signs “A”, “B”, “C” or “D” of the remote control. If you wish to control the central heating of a flat or house remotely in a way that it provides defrosting at all times, then the selected socket and the modem should be tuned together using the “OFF” button with sign “D” of the remote control. There is a defrosting thermostat connected to the buttons with sign “D”, which provides defrosting at 7±0,5°C (it switches the socket on at 6,5°C and switches it off at 7,5°C).

The socket tuned together with the buttons with sign “D” should only be used to control a central heating system with defrosting function.

(6)

• Select one of the sockets and press its “LEARN” button (the red LED above the button starts flashing), then set the switch on the modem into “SET” position. After this, the red LED on the modem is continuously illuminated for approximately 20 seconds, during which time the two units can be tuned together.

• Press one of the “OFF” buttons on the remote control (for example the one with sign “A”). If the two units are tuned together successfully, then the red LEDs on both the socket and the modem become unilluminated. After this, set the switch on the modem back to “WORK” position.

• Repeat the tuning process for all the sockets according to the above steps, but use an “OFF” button with a different sign on the remote control for every socket.

(7)

ATTENTION! The modem and the sockets can only be tuned together while the red LED on the modem is illuminated (approximately 20 seconds). If the red LED becomes unilluminated, then set the switch on the modem back to “WORK” position, then again to “SET” position and start the tuning again.

• After tuning a socket and the modem together, always set the switch on the modem back to “WORK” state.

• If for any reason you wish to change the tuning of the sockets and the modem, press the “RESET” button of the remote control with a plastic or wooden stick. Pressing the “RESET” button deletes the codes of the remote control, after which the modem and the sockets should be tuned together again. Therefore do not press the “RESET” button without a reason.

(8)

2.2 Setting the number of rings before you are connected to the telephone modem and changing the default security code When calling the telephone number to which the modem is connected, by factory default settings, you are connected to the modem after 8 rings (the number of rings before you are connected to the modem can be changed easily). In order to prevent unauthorized access, the modem can only be controlled after its security code has been entered. The default security code is

*

1234#, which is recommended to be changed to a personal four to eight digit security code as follows:

Set the switch on the modem to “

SET” position.

Using a mobile or landline telephone dial the telephone number •

to which the modem is connected. dialling

(9)

- sound signal acknowledging the connection — Entering the service code

*

1234#

(the service code and the default security code are the same) - sound signal acknowledging the service code —

Entering the number of rings before you are connected to

the modem and the personal security code

e.g.

*

6

*

8888#, in which case you will be connected to the modem after 6 rings and the security code will be 8888

- sound signal acknowledging the number of rings and the security code —

ATTENTION! If you give a too low value for the number of rings before you are connected to the modem, then you will have a very short time to answer the telephone in case of incoming calls.

(10)

Therefore, if you also use the telephone line to receive incoming calls, it is recommended to set this number of rings to at least 6 or 8.

After adjusting the basic settings, set the switch of the modem •

back to “WORK” position.

If you wish to change the number of rings before you are connected •

to the modem or the security code again, set the switch of the modem to “SET” position and repeat the above steps.

(11)

3. PuTTING ThE DEvICE INTO OPERATION

Connect the devices to be remotely controlled to the sockets, and then connect the sockets to the mains network (230V AC, 50Hz). Using the “ON” and “OFF” buttons with signs “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” of the remote control check which socket is tuned together with which buttons of the remote control, and write down these settings.

Attention! The socket tuned together with the buttons with sign “D” should only be used to control a central heating system with defrosting function.

Check, whether the switch of the modem is set to “WORK” position after the basic settings are adjusted.

(12)

4. Controlling the soCkets remotely

• Using a mobile or landline telephone dial the telephone number to which the modem is connected.

• After hearing the sound signal acknowledging the connection, enter the security code: e.g.

*

8888#

• After hearing the sound signal acknowledging the security code press the # button to switch on the sockets or press the

*

button to switch off the sockets.

If you wish to switch on or off only one of the sockets, then press the number associated with the socket before pressing the # or

*

button. Number 1 is associated with the “A” buttons, number 2 is associated with the “B” buttons, number 3 is associated with the “C” buttons, number 4 is associated with the “D” buttons of the remote control.

(13)

• The switch is then acknowledged by a beep sound, and the switched on state of a socket is indicated by its illuminated red LED. In the switched on state of the sockets the mains voltage (230V AC, 50Hz) appears on their output.

Useful tips:

- If you do not hear the beep sound through your telephone after issuing the switch on or off commands or you hear two short sound signals, then there is an error. In such cases please repeat the remote control in a few minutes.

- Please wait a couple of minutes time before redialling the telephone number to which the modem is connected.

- After you are connected to the modem and you entered your security code, you can switch on or off multiple socket at once. For example entering 1#2

*

switches on the first socket (the

(14)

one associated with the “A” button) and switches off the second socket (the one associated with the “B” button).

- Before starting to use the telephone remote switch check whether they are working correctly with a telephone call and write down the needed security code and command buttons. Periodically check the state of the batteries.
