Introduction

The recent announcement that West Fraser is permanently shutting down its Houston Forest Products operations means that District residents will face some challenges as jobs are lost in the community. Our first priority is for the well-being of the impacted workers, their families, and the community.

The District of Houston, Provincial Government, and local community stakeholders have

partnered together to form a Community Transition Team to address the effects of the closure. The Community Transition Team will focus on finding ways to help displaced workers and others affected by the closure.

This Community Resource Guide was designed to serve as a one-stop source of information for special programs, employment services, community and social services, worker adjustment and retraining opportunities in Houston.

I sincerely hope you’ll find the Guide informative and helpful in guiding you to the experts and programs that are available to help. Together we can support our displaced workers and move forward to ensure a strong future for the District of Houston.

Sincerely,

Mayor Bill Holmberg District of Houston
