Sol. Volume of sphere = 3 4

1. How many balls, each of radius 1 cm, can be made from a solid sphere of lead of radius 8 cm ?

Sol. Volume of the spherical ball of radius 8 cm =

Also, volume of each smaller spherical ball of

Let n be the number of smaller balls that can

3. The average age of 7 members of a family is 18 years. If the head of the family is excluded the average age of the rest of the members would be 5 years less. Find the age of the head of the family.

Sol. Average age of 7 members = 18 yrs.

 Total age of the 7 members

= 18 × 7 = 126 yrs.

When the head is excluded the average age = 18 – 5 = 13 yrs.

Total age of the 6 members = 13 × 6 = 78 yrs.

Age of the head of the family

= 126 – 78 = 48 yrs.

Sol. Let the third proportional to 16 and 36 is x. Then, 16 : 36 : : 36 : x  16 × x = 36 × 36  x = 16 36 36 = 81.

2. Twelve years hence, a man will be four times as he was twelve years ago, then find his present age.

Sol. Let his present age be x. According to problem x + 12 = 4 (x – 12)

3. A right circular cone of diameter k cm and height 12 cm rests on the base of a right circular cylinder of radius k cm (their bases lie in the same plane, as shown). The cylinder is filled with water to a height of 12 cm. If the cone is then removed, the height to which the water will fall, is

Sol. Speed of train = 60 kmph

= 60 × 18 5 = 3 50 m/s Time taken = train of speed bridge of length train of length  = 3 / 50 800 400 = 50 3 1200 = 72 sec.

Sol. Let an exterior angle of the given polygon is x then interior angle = (180 – x)

Sol. Let R be the radius and H be the height of the cylinder and let r and h be the radius and height of the cone respectively. Then,
