Personal Tutor

The course is largely based on guided, independent study; however, students are allocated a personal tutor for the duration of the course. The role of the personal tutor is to offer students guidance and support during their studies and throughout their assignments. Tutors are committed to returning any email query within 48 hours and students can access a weekly webinar discussion alongside peers, led by their tutor. Having a constant point of contact prevents learners from feeling overwhelmed, as any issue they encounter can be resolved with the help of their tutor.

Guest Lecturers

Resulting from our strong industry presence, the start of every module will feature a guest speaker, an accomplished industry expert who will discuss their career and share their experiences. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain invaluable advice, whilst making industry connections.

Full access to Derby University Buxton Resources

As well as gaining exclusive access to these industry specialists, the Certificate is also taught through work based learning and full access to an extensive range of research material on the University of Derby Buxton database, where online resources will be available for research and assignment purposes.

The full benefits of being a Derby University Buxton Student

Full access to resources including eBooks and online academic journals, to assist students in their studies. As well as, eligibility to join the student union and register with the NUS to receive numerous discounts.

Flexibility

Throughout the course, learners will have the opportunity to attend and participate in online ‘webinars’. Webinars enable course discussion in a group with fellow students who can get involved through their online account at home. This innovative method of communicating enables students to receive professional advice and to have any queries, encountered during their research, answered by their personal tutor. This method of learning ensures that students feel supported throughout their studies, without the pressure and inconvenience of having to be physically present.

Support in finding work experience

Students are offered support in finding work experience, written references can be provided with referrals, however this is the extent to which the institute is involved in securing work experience, essentially students are responsible for securing a work or research opportunity. Generally, students of the University who present written referrals from a quality approved association such as the London School of Beauty & Make-up are welcomed by employers and so coordinating a work placement is easier.

Credits can be put towards further qualifications

A huge advantage of this course is that should students choose to continue their studies; the 60 credits attained through the Certificate can be put towards a further qualification such as a Diploma or Degree at a later date.
