What Does This Tell Us?

Office 365 is a great way to deliver UC and the Office Suite across the organization.

◦ Consistently available across all users and locations

◦ Always up to date

◦ Supports wide (widest?) range of devices

If customer is committed to Microsoft Suite (

Exchange, Office, SharePoint, Yammer

) then..

◦ Microsoft Lync will be a very attractive solution for many situations

◦ Office 365 will be a very attractive implementation model, compared to on-premises options

◦ The move to Microsoft Lync for voice telephony will be a natural evolution

Microsoft Lync for voice telephony will require on-premises (or hosted) servers and gateways

◦ Microsoft licenses can come either from O365 E4 Plan or from Lync Plus CAL on-premises

◦ Brings additional flexibility for UC business process improvements

(4)

Analyzing Your Options:

Understand Objectives

What is the goal?

◦ Go Faster? Use Less? Be Different?

What are the Usage Profiles?

◦ Mobile workers and their processes?

◦ Transaction processing & workflows?

◦ Collaboration roles and interactions?

◦ Automation via web or mobile apps?

What are the Constraints?

◦ Timing? Budget? Capital? Skills?

Check out www.UniCommConsulting.com/resources (see UC Blogs and Industry Events)

(5)

On-Premises or Cloud – or Both?

Cloud is ideal for:

◦ Moving specific usage profile groups to UC

◦ Lowering initial cost

◦ Speeding deployment, with flexible growth

Cloud has limits for:

◦ Some functionality, such as voice telephony

◦ Total cost of ownership at scale and long-term

◦ Customizations and Integrations

Hybrid Cloud-Premises May Be Optimal for:

◦ Matching functionality to Usage Profiles

◦ Amortizing existing investments

◦ Lowering risk via modular implementations

(6)

Resiliency Options for Lync Voice

Users expect resiliency for real-time voice

Two important elements for resiliency:

◦ Connectivity to the network and the PSTN

◦ Reliability of the software and equipment

For cloud-based or hosted Lync Voice:

◦ Dual WAN connections, from different carriers

◦ On-premises Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA)

One Box 365 with Office 365 Hybrid solution:

◦ Eliminates need for SBA; Lync Voice is on-premises

◦ Can be configured with dual WAN connections

Lync Voice in Small to Mid-Sized Enterprises

TCO Comparison - 4 options to add enterprise voice to O365:

2. Add O365 E4 Plan Plus CAL & servers for Lync system on-prem.

3. Combine O365 E3 Plan with cloud- hosted Lync Enterprise Voice.

4. Combine O365 E4 plan with AudioCodes OneBox 365 on-prem.

Implications for System Integrators

From 50 up to several hundred users, AudioCodes OneBox 365 is the most economical

way to deploy Office 365 with Lync Voice

Below approximately 50 users, a hosted Lync voice provider with per-user pricing will

likely become more cost effective than OneBox 365.

Office 365 + OneBox 365 may be competitive with a PBX deployment in mid-sized

companies; however, make sure you evaluate the users’ needs carefully.

This appears to be a huge opportunity for SMB and mid-market system integrators to

add voice telephony for the 10’s of millions of Office 365 subscribers
