Prayer for Memorial Day Everlasting Lord,

We come to bow our heads in respect to you, and thank you for our great country. Lord, we come before you today remembering our country's heroes both dead and alive. We purpose to make this day a time to show honor to the men and women whose sacrifice has helped to keep us safe and free.

We acknowledge their bravery, and we want to recognize the sacrificial contributions of each one. Stir our hearts, Lord, with patriotism and thankfulness as we think about our coun- try's treasures lying in graves beneath our nation's soil and the soil of lands far away. May we be inspired to be more abundant in our giving as we commemorate their lives of ser- vice to others. They gave the ultimate sacrifice, and we re- spectfully remember them today. Lord, we lift up the families and friends of those who gave their lives for their country. We ask you to minister to the deep longing of those who grieve.

We ask you to bring your peace and supernatural comfort to each one as they recall their former happy times together. As we observe this day, we want to again respectfully honor all the men and women who presently serve in our armed forces.

May they feel appreciated, and may they be powerfully pro- tected this day and every day. We pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ,

Amen

HAITI PROJECT UPDATE

Pictures of the nine families that, because of your generosity, are now living in safe, concrete, two bedroom homes rather than houses made of sticks and mud, have been posted on the Haiti Wall on the lower level of the Church.

Stop by for a visit to the Blessed Sacrament and, while you are there, stop down and see their smiling faces. You will notice that some of the families are proudly displaying the solar light kit they received with their home. Each home also included a household sanitation system, a water cistern to gather water, a 5 piece dinette set and , 2 single beds.

Thank you again for participating in our annual Haiti Home Building Project. Since 2005, 225 adults and children have been housed in 64 new homes.

Thank you, Father Jay Deacon Bill

AT THE END OF HIS EARTHLY LIFE JESUS ASCENDS

WHAT’S IN A NAME CAMPAIGN

Immaculate Conception School is inviting the community to acquire naming rights. At ICS, we continue to focus efforts on instructional initiatives to grow student achievement and prepare our students for a successful future. We are extending an invita- tion to the school, parish and community at large to participate in acquiring naming rights to all classrooms in the Early Education Building, the classrooms within the school, the Science Lab, the Art Room, etc. When donating toward this campaign, your or- ganization’s name, a family name or a Saint name will be honored or memorialized in a way that anyone who passes through our halls will be reminded of those who have invested in their educa- tion. Great things are happening at Immaculate Conception School and your support will enable us to continue impacting the lives of all those who cross our threshold. Your generosity and support will ensure the future growth of our children, our beloved school and the students of our PREP Program. Please contact

Laura Vitelli, 908-735-7319 or via email at [email protected].

TUITION ANGEL

What is a Tuition Angel? We at Immaculate Conception School are proud of the quality education we offer to our families.

In order to fulfill our mission by fostering in each child, Spiritual Growth, Academic Excellence, and Moral Integrity, we must properly fund our school.

We invite you to join us in prayerfully becoming an Immacu- late Conception School Tuition Angel. Your support will make a tremendous impact on the lives of students for generations to come. We have been blessed over the years at ICS by people who value a Catholic education and want to help provide for those less fortunate. We have some “angels” who donate funding toward tuition for ICS students. The Tuition Angel Fund is an ongoing program where families in need are helped as situations arise. If you are interested in contributing to this fund, please contact Laura Vitelli, Director of Advancement, 908-735-7319, or via email at [email protected]. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

MATCHING GIFTS

There are many companies that offer current and retired em- ployees an opportunity to match their contributions to their favor- ite charities. Please check with your Human Resource Depart- ment as to whether they will support Immaculate Conception

ICS MORNING PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

A Morning Preschool Program is being offered for 3 & 4 year olds. Preschool at ICS prepares children for future learning through readiness. Give your child the gift of a strong religious and academic foundation in a loving and nurturing environment.

To learn more about the preschool programs at ICS please visit the school website: www.icsannandale.org or call the school of- fice at 908-735-6334.

FESTIVAL UPDATE

With sadness, we announce that the decision has been made not to proceed with this year’s Immaculate Conception Parish Festival - scheduled to take place June 17-21, there is still much uncertainty as to whether hosting any event at that time would be possible.

For 18 years, our goal has always been to provide a safe event for all to enjoy. This will not change and guide our decision going forward as to whether we are able to assemble the rides, games, and volunteers necessary to reschedule the event.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Spiritual direction is the contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the mystery called God in all of life, and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of free- dom and commitment. During this time of social distancing Spir- itual Directors in our parish offer the option of virtual sessions using Zoom. For more information contact Ed Reitter at 908-268- 9671 or [email protected]

THURSDAY SCRIPTURE

Among the many bible study options in our ICC Parish is the Thursday Scripture ministry. We meet on Thursday’s from 10 AM till 11:45 AM. During this time of social distancing, we continue to meet virtually via Zoom.

For more information or to join us contact Ed Reitter at [email protected]

THANK YOU FOR THE FOOD DRIVE DONATIONS

On behalf of the parishioners of St.Magdalen’s thank you for your donation of canned goods for the Our Lady of Hope House Food Pantry. Your parishioners generosity and goodness in re- membering our parish is greatly appreciated. As you know we rely on the charity of others to support the work and worship God calls to us. It is through the sacrifice and witness of people such as your parishioners that God’s love is poured out to the world.

Sincerely in Christ,

Reverend Kennith Brighenti

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on Sundays, 1:15 pm A Preparation Session for the persons (Godparents invited) takes place prior to Baptism and is held on the First Friday of each month at 7:30 pm. A Catholic Godparent must be a practicing Catholic, i.e. one who is free to receive the Sacraments in the Catholic Church, who has been Confirmed and can receive a

“Letter of Good Standing” from their parish. One Godparent could be a baptized Christian (not baptized in the Catholic Church). That Godparent will be noted in the Church record as a Christian Witness. Contact the Parish Office at 735-7319 for all arrangements and before the selection of Godparents.

The Sacrament of Penance is available every Saturday, except Holy Saturday, from 11:30 am-12:00 nn and from 4:30-

5:00 pm.

THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE

The Common Policy for the Diocese of New Jersey requires a period of preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage, which in- cludes sessions with the parish priest or deacon and participation in either the Pre-Cana Conference or the Engaged Encounter Weekend. Therefore, arrangements with the Parish Office should be made up to one year in advance, and before any social plans are finalized.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Arrangements for pastoral visitation and Holy Communion to the sick and infirmed at home can be made by contacting the Par- ish Office. Catholic Charities are assigned by the Diocese of Metuchen for patients in our area hospitals. Our Parish is respon- sible for Rolling Hills Nursing Care Facility. Emergency sick calls anytime.
