CHILDREN’S BUREAU PUBLICATION
Mongolism, which occurs in about one in
every 600 or 700 babies, is the subject of a
new Children’s Bureau publication, The Man-goloid Baby. The publication, one in a series for parents who have children with handicapping
conditions, tells what is known about mongol-ism and advises parents on the kinds of
adjust-ments they may need to make if they have a
baby with this condition. The publication points out that one of the decisions parents must make
is whether they will be able to or should try to care for the mongoloid baby at home. It warns
against a hasty decision which might ignore such factors as the needs of the baby or his
effect on his parents or other children in the
family. The Monogoloid Baby outlines some of
the sources of help which parents can find
either on a community on state basis. The
pub-lication is available from the Superintendent of
Documents, U. S. Government Printing Office,
Washington 25, D.C., for 10 cents a copy.
