Brief outline of the NCL’s CSR Policy:

(a) The main objective of CSR policy is to lay down guidelines for the company to make CSR a key business process for sustainable development of the Society. It aims at supplementing the role of the Govt. in enhancing welfare measures of the society based on the immediate and long term social and environmental consequences of coal mining.

(b) The primary beneficiaries of CSR are Project affected Areas (PAAs) and those staying within the radius of 25Kms of the coal mining project. Poor and needy section of the society living in other parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are the secondary beneficiaries.

(c) The scope of CSR activities undertaken by NCL is as per Schedule VII of the New Companies Act, 2013 and as per DPE guidelines as amended from time to time.

(e) The fund for the CSR is allocated based on 2% of the average net profit of the Company for the three immediate preceding financial years or Rs. 2.00 per ton of Coal Production of previous year whichever is higher. The unspent amount in CSR budget in a particular year would be accounted for as per the provision of Companies Act 2013, as notified.

orthern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has adopted Policy for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in line with CIL’s CSR Policy.

This policy has been framed after

incorporating the features of the Companies Act 2013, notification issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and

Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Govt. of India from time to time and Companies (Amendment) Act 2019.

(f) NCL has a Board Level Committee on CSR which reviews the implementation of CSR activities from time to time and recommends the amount of expenditure to be incurred on CSR activities.

CSR STRATEGY

NCL has adopted CSR as a strategic tool for sustainable development of the areas surrounding NCL Coalfields by integration of the business processes with Social and Environmental needs, wherein all the three can Coexist and contribute to the overall development of the region.

APPROACH

 Understanding the needs and aspirations of the local community and aligning the CSR Programmes with Sustainable Development Goal Agenda and national priority needs through focused CSR projects towards overall development of the community in the region across the spectrum; Improvement of Basic Infrastructure, improving connectivity through roads, Water Supply, Skill Development, Healthcare, Education, Promotion of Sports, art and Culture, etc.

COVID 19: NCL’s Commitment towards National Priority

COVID 19 : Projects towards mitigation of CIVID 19 in Madhya Pradwesh and Uttar pradesh

 Ensuring Energy Security amid COVID 19 as a responsible Corporate Citizen

 Over 15000 employees contributed their one day salary to PM CARES FUND

 Rs.20.00 Cr Contributed to Govt. of Madhya Pradesh and Rs.5.00 Cr contributed to Govt. of Uttar Pradesh in 2020-21

 Rs.11.75 Cr Contributed to Govt. of MP for 6 oxygen generators and Rs.0.90 Cr contributed to Collector of Sonebhadra in 2021-22

Besides its employees, NCL reached out to more than 1 Lakh people residing in villages around operational area of NCL through various measures like sanitization of public places, villages, distribution of ration kits, masks, sanitizers and up-gradation of required health infrastructure in the region.

OVERVIEW OF NCL’S CSR PROJECTS (FY 2014-15 to FY 2020-21)

1. GAON JODO ABHIYAN: ROAD CONNECTIVITY

Achievements:

Construction/Carpeting of around 210 Kms of roads constructed.

Expenditure: Rs. 108.05 Cr

Impact: Improving connectivity of more than 65 Villages benefitting around 1.5 Lakhs people.

2. AADHAR:BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Achievements:

Construction of Community halls (37 nos.), Cremation ghats (06 nos) , drains , toilets (7500 nos.), rural haats (03 nos), Elctrification (12 tolas), Solar lights (1500) etc. in around 60 nos. Villages Expenditure: Rs. 72.15 Cr

Impact: Improved Basic Infrastructure in around 60 nos villages benefitting around 1.2 Lakhs people.

3. SAB SAKSHAR: PROMOTION OF EDUCATION

Achievements:

Supported more than 500 Govt schools through development of infrastructure like classrooms, toilets, drinking water, laboratories, boundary wall, furniture, learning tools, laboratory items, smart classrooms, e-libraries etc.

Development of more than 90 nos.

Anganwadis Expenditure: Rs. 177.81 Cr

Impact: Promotion of Education, Improved attendance and enrollment, benefitting around 0.80 lakhs students every year

4. SWACHH JAL:WATER AVAILABILITY AND ACCESSABILITY

Achievements:

Installation of more than 2200 Handpumps and 45 RO Plants,

Development of 40 Ponds and 12 Check dams

NCL supported Integrated Water Supply for Singrauli District under U.I.D.S.S.M.T (Urban Infrastructure Development scheme for small and medium towns) Expenditure: Rs. 39.72 Cr

Impact: Access to safe drinking water along with conservation of water and improved ground water table

5. SAB SWASTH: HEALTHCARE

Achievements:

3 Hospitals, 10 Dispensaries & 5 Ambulances of NCL cater to the health needs of the local community in M.P and U.P.

NCL supported more than 110 Government Public Health Centers in Singrauli (M.P) and Sonebhadra (U.P) district with infrastructure and medical equipment.

Medical health camps frequently organized to reach out to the remote locations and for the benefit of masses, benefitting more than 20,000 local inhabitants every year.

Sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators installed in 24 Govt.

Schools of Singrauli and Sonebhdara district benefitting around 5000 girl students

Distribution of aids and appliances (1824 nos) to Divyangjans in Singrauli and Sonebhadra district, benefitting more than 1100 Divyangjans.

Expenditure: Rs. 55.84 Cr

Impact: Access to better healthcare services, benefitting around 0.80 Lakhs people every year

6. KAUSHAL:SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Achievements:

Around 8600 Youths/PAPs/Women has been trained through various self- employment and job-linked skill development programmes.

TRADES: Mine electrician, Mine wielder, HEMM mechanics, Data entry operator, Home appliances, Mobile hardware repairing, Motor rewinding, Poultry, Mushroom cultivation, Pearl farming, vegetable cultivation & processing, khadi & handloom, Embroidery, Beauty culture & Hair dressing, Driving, tailoring&stiching, Soft toys and bag making etc.

Expenditure: Rs. 14.31 Cr

Impact: Improved skills for employment and self- employment.

7. KHEL TARANG: PROMOTION OF SPORTS, ART & CULTURE

Achievements:

Development of an state-of-art infrastructure "JAYANT SPORTS ACADEMY" for training of youths in sports and preparing them for national and International platforms

1600 Youths mobilized from around 150 villages for training and participation in 15 Days Khel Tarang Camps organized in FY 2019-20.

Expenditure: Rs.5.79 Cr
