My main areas of professional interest can be summarised as follows:

• Survey, recording, excavation and management of Aboriginal archaeological

sites

• Aboriginal heritage and community/personal history research with

Aboriginal communities and individuals

• Archival/historical research into Aboriginal history

In addition to the extensive range of archaeological projects I have undertaken, I am

also involved in Aboriginal historical research and community consultation projects. I

am particularly interested in assisting Aboriginal communities and individuals to

document their history and culture from their perspective. Some current and recent

projects I have been involved with include:

• The Kundle Project is an ongoing research project in conjunction with the

Dharawal Elders Group at La Perouse to document the archaeological and

historical evidence of the Aboriginal use of the Kurnell Peninsula in Southern

Sydney through research and archaeological survey.

• The Sydney Aboriginal Historical Places Project involves the compilation of

records of places used by Aboriginal people in the Sydney area after the arrival of

Europeans. Subsequent stages of this project will involve archaeological survey

work to locate these places in conjunction with Aboriginal communities in the

Sydney area.

• From 2002 to 2005 I was coordinator of the Sydney Olympic Park Aboriginal

History and Connections Program which investigated past and current Aboriginal

connections to this part of Sydney. The program involved extensive and ongoing

Aboriginal community consultation with community visits and regular newsletters

as well as an oral history recording program. It also involved identifying Aboriginal

sites in this area.

• From 2004-2007 I have worked with Annabree (Thelma Coconut)

Trungith clan from Weipa/Napranum in Cape York to document her life story and

cultural knowledge, culminating in the production of a manuscript for future use as

a book and/or education materials. This project also involved archival research at

the AIATSIS library and audio/visual archive in Canberra.

• I have also been involved with large Aboriginal community consultation projects

such as along the eastern coast of New South Wales for the Indigenous Land

Corporation/NSW Aboriginal Land Council in 2001.
