1. Background\Scope
Windows 7 is Microsoft’s latest operation system for the client station and PV4E v6.0 / CenterMind support this OS for demonstration purposes only. The following technical note will describe the pre and post PV4E/CenterMind installation requirement for a successful installation on a Windows 7 operation system.

Pre PV4E/CenterMind installation:
The following features are required to be installed on the PV4E/CenterMind server:
IIS 7 (with IIS 6 Management Compatibility + FTP server)
MSMQ
SMTP Server
In order to install them do the following:
1. Click on the Start menu icon Control Panel Programs Programs and Features
2. Click on “Turn Windows features on or off” hyper link.
Workaround for FTP check
When running the PV4E setup it checks if the FTP server exists by searching for a specific location in the registry, even after installing the FTP server feature it is not added in the registry therefore it required to be added manually.
In order to add the specific location in the system registry do the following: 1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking on the ‘start menu’ icon and write
‘regedit’ in the ‘Search program and files’ command line. 2. Expend
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ServiceProvider\ 3. Right click on the ServiceProvider folder to open a menu.
4. In the menu click on New Key and write the key name ‘ServiceTypes’ (without the ‘ ’).
5. Right click on the ServiceTypes folder to open a menu.
6. In the menu click on New Key and write the key name ‘MSFTPSVC’ (without the ‘ ’).
Disable the User Account Control (UAC)
The UAC must be turned off during the installation process.
1. Click on the Start menu icon Control Panel System and Security Action Center.
2. Click on the “Change User Account Control settings” link on the left side of the window.
3. In the new windows slide the option button to the ‘Never Notify’ option (the lowest value).
4. Click on the OK button. 5. Restart the computer.
SQL server Installation
Windows 7 require MS-SQL 2012 MS-SQL 2008 R2 to work properly.
PV4E/CenterMind Installation
1. Install PV4E/CenterMind.
2. During the installation the message about SMTP or/and FTP might show up as shown below, ignore it and continue with the installation.

4. When the system is restarting wait until the Sanity Analyzer process is completed.
Post PV4E/CenterMind Installation
Additional permissions are required to be added in several locations in Windows 7 before login to the PV4E/CenterMind application:
DCOM
FTP (BootLoader directory)
MachineKeys directory
Upload directory
Add permission for CmsServ in DCOM:
1. Enable the Administrative Tools menu in the Start menu as following: a. Open the ‘Taskbar and Start Menu Properties’ by right click on the
Taskbar Properties
b. In the ‘Taskbar and Start Menu Properties’ windows click on the ‘Start Menu’ tab Customize..
c. Scroll down to ‘System administrative tools and click on the ‘Display on the All Programs menu and the Start menu’ button.
2. Open the ‘Component Services’ by clicking on the Start menu icon Administrative Tools Components Services.
3. Expend the Component Services\Computer\My Computer\DCOM Config. 4. Right click on CmsServ Properties Security tab.
5. Click on the “Edit…” button in the ‘Launch and Activation Permissions’. 6. Add IUSR group and give full permissions.
7. Press OK to save your settings.
Add permission for BootLoader directory:
The BootLoader directory is used as FTP directory for the Software Upgrade operation.
1. Open the ‘PV4E’ folder, default located at:
C:\Program Files\RiT Technologies\PatchView for the Enterprise 2. Right click on ‘BootLoader’ folder Properties Security tab 3. Click on the ‘Edit…’ button
4. Click on the ‘Add…’ button and add the IUSR group with Full Control permissions.
5. Press OK to save your settings. Add the BootLoader FTP directory in the IIS:
In order to enable the PVMax firmware upgrade (“Software Upgrade”) in PV4E on Windows 7 the ‘BootLoader’ FTP directory in the IIS must be added manually as following:
1. Click on the Start menu icon Administrative Tools Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
2. Right click on the ‘Sites’ folder ‘Add FTP Site…’ 3. Write the FTP site name ‘BootLoader’ (without the ‘ ’)
4. Choose the physical path of the BootLoader folder, the default location is: C:\Program Files\RiT Technologies\PatchView for the Enterprise
5. Click the Next button. 6. Choose the ‘No SSL’ option. 7. Click on the Next button.
8. Choose ‘Anonymous’ under Authentication.
9. Choose access to ‘All users’ under Authorization and mark Read and Write Permissions.
10. Click the Finish button.
Add permission for MachineKeys directory 1. Open the RSA folder default located at:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
2. Right click on ‘MachineKeys’ folder Properties Security tab 3. Click on the ‘Edit…’ button
4. Click on the ‘Add…’ button and add the IUSR, IIS_IUSRS and Users groups with Read permissions.
5. Press OK to save your settings. Add permission for Upload directory
12. Open the ‘Presentation’ folder, default location is:
C:\Program Files\RiT Technologies\PatchView for the Enterprise 1. Right click on the ‘Upload’ folder Properties Security tab 2. Click on the ‘Edit…’ button and Add groups IUSR, IIS_IUSRS and
NETWORK SERVICES with full permissions. 3. Press OK to save your settings.
Using the PDA with Windows 7 Firewall
Windows 7 comes with a built-in firewall program. It should be disabled or configured with an open TCP port for the PDA to work properly.
To configure the firewall do the following:
1. Open the Firewall application by clicking on the Start menu icon Control Panel Windows Firewall and Advanced Security
2. Click on ‘Inbound Rules’ and then Right click it New Rule… 3. In the New Rule Wizard windows choose ‘Port’
4. Click on the Next button.
5. Choose ‘TCP’ and write the Specific local port (default port is 29632) 6. Click on the Next button.
7. Choose ‘Allow the Connection’ 8. Click on the Next button twice.
9. Write the Rule name and description. (for example: “Inbound TCP for PV4E PDA”)
10. Click on the Finish button.
