The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is an international professional society of clinicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals who are interested in Parkinson’s disease, related neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, hyperkinetic Movement Disorders, and abnormalities in muscle tone and motor control.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The MDS-ES Movement Disorders Emergencies: A Practical Approach online course aims to cover an important topic in the movement disorders field, which addresses movement disorders presenting in an acute setting in hospitals or clinics across the world. The course will cover a broad range of emergencies, which can be encountered in emergency

departments, general practitioner surgeries, or inpatient wards for general neurology. The emergencies the course will cover include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, acute parkinsonism, Parkinson hyperpyrexia syndrome, acute hyperkinetic movement disorders, serotonin syndrome, psychosis in PD, dystonic storm, as well as specific conditions. The

participants will have the opportunity to learn phenomenology of these syndromes and practical approach of the treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Evaluate the pattern of the main movement disorders emergencies 2. List the treatment of the main movement disorders emergencies

3. Assess complex management of movement disorders emergencies cases TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is intended for general neurologists with an interest in managing and evaluating movement disorders emergencies.

OVERALL GOAL STATEMENT

The goal of this program is to provide a practical approach to various movement disorders emergencies.
