Program Overview.
We are in the midst of a new, complex and hardened business environment, surrounded by
serious economic crisis where every organisational decision affects the bottom-line. In this
context, being able to conduct a structured and sound reflection of the Security function
within your organisation and ensure adequate budgetary and organisational support for
security initiatives is a must.
Effective Management for Security Professionals
is an international executive programme
specifically designed to assist mid-to-senior security managers in developing their business
acumen in order to become more effective managers and leaders within their organisation.
The programme will focus on business fundamentals and will help participants develop a
salient voice in business matters.
The programme is also created in collaboration with
ASIS International
, the preeminent
security association dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security
professionals around the world.
Upon successful completion of the programme executives will be awarded an IE Business
School/ASIS International certificate of participation.
Program Objectives.
During this programme participants will develop a sound understanding of how to:
• Harness the dynamics of business fundamentals and the business challenges today’s
organisations are facing.

Program Content.
This international executive programme has been designed to push participants beyond simply acquiring new knowledge and skills. It is built around interactive discussions, case studies, and teamwork, all of which are intended to expose participants to the frameworks and tools they will need to succeed in an international and competitive business environment.
Setting the Context: A Changing Business Reality
Examine today’s transforming socio-economic landscape and its impact on your organisation and the security management role at large to glean insights into tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities.
Creating the Strategic Mindset
Develop an understanding of the strategic core concepts and analytical tools needed to cultivate a “strategic mindset” that will allow you to create value and competitive advantage within your role as security manager.
The Application of Financial Information
Grasp the latest concepts in financial management and how these tools may help any manager, not just financial specialists, make sounder business decisions, with a special emphasis on budgeting, valuation and value creation.
Building the Business Case for Security Initiatives
Apply the learning to your own business scenarios. Executives will be confronting their specific issues and concerns in peer groups to evaluate how they can build the business case for security initiatives in order to secure funding for their projects.
Leading in Uncertainty
Understand the impact of constant changes in the environment on the individual and the organisation and explore key parameters and tools to assess and manage change. Determine change mindsets, identify resistance barriers, and tackle them on a one-to-one approach and in the organisational setting.
Corporate Governance and Ethics
Understand inherent tradeoffs and tensions that managers face as they work to deal with corporate governance issues, ethics and compliance.
Bringing it all Together
The final session of the programme will require executives to integrate and apply the acquired knowledge and skills to a specific business problem. Participants will work in groups and present their recommendations to their peers and programme faculty.

Whether it is how to encourage managers to act on climate change in their industry or the extent to which the financial markets drive companies to implement strategic change, Carl Joachim Kock is fascinated by cause and effect.
After spending many years in a multinational company, Professor Kock realised that day to day work was hampering his ability to take a deeper look at the business issues that interested him and so decided to pursue a doctoral programme. Armed with this new academic experience, his work focuses on identifying the fundamental drivers of value in companies as a whole.
