Note: Use the What's New in 8.0 provided on the Cornerstone Resource CD to read more of the improved
efficiencies when creating patient medical notes and correspondence.
New Item or Key Change More Info
1. Common Window and New Terminology
With an improved common window for creating medical notes and correspondence, you’ll now refer to correspondence and medical notes as documents.
2. New correspondence and medical notes Cornerstone workflow and Cornerstone Editor
Your staff will begin to create their correspondence or medical notes from the Cornerstone Editor window. As you continue through this plan, you’ll learn the parts of this window such as the Banner, Editor Pane, and Invoice Items Pane.
If you are upgrading from Cornerstone 7.5 or prior and implementing integrated capabilities such as inventory, imaging, or laboratory, please use the full Cornerstone 8.0 Release Implementation Plan located on your Cornerstone Resource CD so you may be properly prepared.
New Item or Key Change More Info 3. New document categories and
ability to convert classic medical notes
After you install Cornerstone 8.0, you’ll learn you can convert your old, or ‘classic’ medical notes, one at a time to the new style and functionality. Your staff will notice new document categories they can use for searching documents, including the ‘Classic medical note’ category.
4. Classic medical notes bookmarks to text input fields
After converting your classic medical notes, you can replace your bookmarks with a new feature called text input fields. This allows you to use your medical notes as a form, improving efficiencies with entry work.
5. Ability to keep problems and diagnosis not finalized even when the medical note is finalized
With Cornerstone 7.6 and prior, finalized medical notes also finalized the problems and diagnosis. Now if you need to finalize a medical note that contains a problem or diagnosis but you're not ready to finalize them, you can finalize only the medical notes leaving the problems and diagnoses as tentative.
Note: And now, problems, problems with details, diagnosis and diagnosis with details can be added to document templates.
6. Automatic conversion of 7.6 and prior Standard Client Correspondence with signature bookmarks to a Correspondence document type
In 7.6 or prior, the document types were Medical Notes and Client Correspondence (Standard and Referral). With 8.0, there are now three document types: Medical Notes, Correspondence and Print Only. Your 7.6 documents with signature bookmarks are automatically converted to Correspondence type documents to preserve the integrity of signature captures that should be retained in history.
7. Continue Classic Medical Notes for medical notes where portion of entries were ‘Included in Client Corr.’
Those who had medical notes where some of the line items were marked as ‘Incl as Client Corr’ should continue to use these medical notes in the classic style. This will preserve the ability to take a portion of medical note entry for other correspondence uses.
8. Continue to use Cornerstone Surgery Template and Cornerstone Radiology (Imaging) Template as classic
In order to continue to generate surgery and radiology logs, continue to use these in the classic style
Step 2. Using Medical Notes and Correspondence Tutorial
We've created a tutorial titled using Medical Notes and Correspondence which can be found on the Cornerstone Resource CD and, after installation, in the Cornerstone program group. Any staff member that uses
correspondence or medical notes can use this tutorial to learn about: • New terminology and the Cornerstone Editor window
