User Management
Introduction
The User Management module is a limited Security System web application that allows the system administrator to add new users to the Labtronics Security System and assign the new users to existing groups within the Security System. User permissions are assigned via the associated Group.
This module facilitates the addition of new users to pre-defined Groups via the Nexxis iLAB portal without having to access the Labtronics Security System.
The Labtronics Security System must be accessed directly to perform any other security tasks. Refer to the Security System User Manual.
Accessing User Management
The User Management module of Nexxis iLAB is accessed via the Administrator component on the Module Instance pane.
Double clicking on the User Management sub-node located under the Security node will launch an occurrence of the Admin-User Management tab in the Instance pane displaying the Local Users and Groups List.
Local Users and Groups List
The Local Users and Groups List displays all Users and Groups currently configured for the system.

Users and Groups may be sorted by clicking on the column heading, and may be filtered by entering text in one of the filter options provided under the column headings. The number of Users/Groups displayed per page can be altered and navigation tools are provided to scan through the pages of Users/Groups available.
Adding a New Local User
New Local Users are added by selecting the „Add‟ button in the Local Users and Groups List window.
This will open the Add Local User window through which you can enter the information for a new Local User.
Figure 1.2: Local User Information
To define a user, you must specify the following information:
Full Name – Enter the full name of the user being added to the local security membership. This name will be referenced in the application for audit trail records. The full name must be unique for the life of the Security System. For example, if John Smith is deleted from the system, the Security System cannot have a new user called John Smith again.
An entry is mandatory. The Full Name may contain all alpha and numeric characters, and the following symbols:
-_ !#$%^&* ~
A space character is also permitted.
Enable User – Activating this checkbox will allow the user to be enabled within the Security System.
What this means is the user can be assigned to applications, and log onto the associated application.
If a user is not enabled here, the User Name (see below) will still appear in the user/group list view (see
User Management
Nexxis User Management v5.0 User Manual 3 Figure 4.1); however, the name will be tagged with a „Disabled‟ status.
User Name – Enter the User Name for the local user. This will be the name required when logging onto an application. The User Name must be unique amongst all local users.
An entry is mandatory. The User Name may contain all alpha and numeric characters, and the following symbols:
-_ !#$%^&* ~
A space character is also permitted.
Password – Enter the Password that will be required for logon. After entering the password, you will be prompted to confirm it. An entry here is not mandatory.
The Password may contain all alpha and numeric characters, and the following symbols:
-_ !#$%^&* ~
A space character is also permitted.
If you select the “Expire password upon next logon” option, the program will require the user to change the Password at their next logon.
In the lower portion of the window, you can also add some optional information such as title, email, and phone number to further define the user.
Note: The Facility parameter is currently disabled. It has been added for future consideration, and in the future will allow you to assign a location parameter.
Note: Clicking on the ‘Edit’ button from the Local Users and Groups window will open an Edit Local User window allowing you to modify the User information.
Adding a Local User to a Group(s)
Clicking on the ‘Add to Groups’ button from the Add Local User window will open the Add Users to Groups window.

User Management

Managing Groups
The membership of local groups can be managed via the ‘Manage Groups’ button located in the Local Users and Groups window. Clicking the ‘Manage Groups’ button will open the Group Management window, similar to the example shown here.
Figure 1.4: Group Management
From here, you can manage the membership of local groups by adding and/or removing the necessary local users.
The drop-down list box at the top of the window contains a list of all currently enabled group names. From this list box, you can select the group name to manage. Once selected, the User Names list view (panel on the left hand side of the window) will display all currently enabled user names that are not a member of the selected group. The Users in Group list view (panel on the right hand side of the window) will display the user names that are currently a member of the selected group.
To add a user name to the selected group, highlight the user name in the list on the left and click the ‘ ’ button. Multiple user names can be selected at one time. You can similarly remove users from the group by using the ‘ ’ button.
Adding Global Users to a Local Group
You also have the option to add Global Users to a local group. Clicking on the ‘Add Global User’ button will open the respective Add Global Users to Group window for the enabled global system (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP Security).

From here, you can choose users from a selected directory.
You can type the names of users or groups, separated by semicolons, into the edit box, and click „OK‟.
The selected user(s)/groups(s) will be appended to the Users in Group list on the Group Management window.
A similar window will be displayed if using LDAP security integration.
Unlocking a Local User
From the Local User and Group window, any currently locked users can be unlocked. From the list view, select the locked user to unlock, and click on the ‘Unlock’ button. User accounts may lock after a specified number of consecutive invalid logon attempts.
Refer to the section „Account Lockout‟ in the Security System User Manual for more information.
