Middle East & Africa region’s leading and most prestigious competition for the regional packaging industry.

Packaging MEA is glad to announce the return of the PRIME Awards 2021. This year, the awards evening will take place at the beautiful and iconic Hotel Address Fountain Views, Downtown Dubai, UAE on Tuesday 8 November 2021.

Entries are now open for the 2021 awards.

23 category awards are up for grabs across Design & Innovation, Best in Class-Packaging Converting, Sustainability, CSR, Student of the year and Lifetime achievement.

We aim to celebrate these accomplishments on 8 November 2021 at Hotel Address

Fountain Views Dubai, UAE.

During this exclusive evening with fine dining and excellent networking opportunities, we will present the PRIME Awards 2021.

Our international jury of judges are experts in Design, Innovation and Sustainability realms. They will measure, evaluate and choose the very best among the best.

This year’s jury is composed of prominent members from across the entire packaging value chain who represent key areas of the industry that includes packaging professionals from a wide gamut of experience and expertise across technology, business, academics, brands and sustainability.

As we enhance our jury panel, we continue to drive for a more diverse mix of nationalities, ages, genders, educations, skill sets and experiences.

Having more jury members will help with an ever- growing number of competition entries, ensuring each jury member has more time to dedicate to providing invaluable feedback for each entry they vote on.

PRIME Awards 2021 judges are carefully chosen for their experience, expertise and industry knowledge.

Meet the 2021

Prime Awards Jury

SANTE CONSELVAN

Sante Conselvan is the President of FTA Europe (European Flexographic Technical Federation). He is also the CEO of I&C-Gama International Group.

He is involved in several Packaging and Graphic Arts Associations and has been conferred accolades that includes FTA US President Award, Polliccione d’Oro, Education Grapihcs Art Association, Freeman of the City of London, Member of TAGA Italia where he has been involved in the Board for several years.

Conselvan is a Industrial Chemistry graduate at the Molinari Technical Institute in Milan. Later after gaining international experience, specialized in electronic technology applied to prepress-scanners and page make up.

Later on, he set up I&C. The company specializes in the commercial start-up of innovative technologic solutions for the printing and converting industry.

Since 2002 he has been a member of the management board of Gama, a company producing ink control quality systems.

DEBABRATA DEB

Debabrata Deb has completed his B.Tech from IIT Delhi and is a postgraduate from the prestigious university of IIM – Ahmedabad.

He has over Three decades of industry experience in Philips, Metal Box, India Foils, VFC Industries &

Paharpur 3P in technology, product development, application development, quality systems and senior management.

His area of expertise is in the Package Converting Industry covering Rigid, Foil and Flexible

Packaging.

He has also been a Corporate Winner of numerous India Star, Asia Star and World Star Awards.

He is a visiting faculty with Indian Institute of Packaging, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata. MS University, Vadodara and Navarachana University, Vadodara Deb has been associated with Packaging MEA magazine since its inception in 2012 and is currently a technology editor with the magazine.

DR GEORGE NUBAR SIMONIAN

Dr George is the Dean of Design & Creative Arts Faculty in AHRAM Canadian University, Egypt He is the visiting lecturer in five different universities & institutes, including Heidelberg Print Media Academy in Cairo, Alexandria Univ.

Akhbar El Yom Academy & the Military Technical College.

He has a PhD in offset & digital printing, MA in Digital Imaging from London College of Printing, MSc in Offset Printing, Diploma in Offset Litho Printing, BA in Printing Packaging & Publishing and many other academic degrees from reputed institutions across the world.

He has many more accolades, roles and accomplishments across various packaging- print sectors. All of this shows how passionate he is about his professional career in print and packaging.

Dr. George has been associated with Packaging MEA magazine since its inception in 2012 and is currently a technology editor with the magazine.

HENRIETTE THOMAS

Henriette Thomas is an experienced professional within the Print, Production, Packaging and Design sectors.

She works across numerous channels that

includes BTL/ATL agencies, pre-press, production

& manufacturing houses and print/procurement management where she has gained over 20 years’

experience.

Henriette is extremely passionate and is focussed on dedicating commitment to drive service, delivery and quality.

She works across the entire AME and has been based in the UAE, Nigeria & Kenya with Point over the last 8 years.

Her leadership style is innovative and

motivational, cultivates inventive thinking and energises and engages individuals and teams, by creating an inspired, rewarding and involved culture.

KIRAN P. PRAYAGI

Kiran P. Prayagi, FSDC, FISLE, is managing partner at Graphic Arts Technology &

Education. He has a Diploma in Litho- Offset from India, a post-graduation study in Colour Reproduction and Quality Control from the London College of Printing, London and many more academic accolades in Colour Measurement, Photography and Marketing.

He is a visiting faculty at many print and packaging universities including Indian Institute of Packaging. He lectures and presents about print and packaging technology in many international conferences, seminars whilst he also authors articles in trade journals as well.

For the past 24 years, he runs a technical and management consultancy for the printing and graphic arts industry. Over 160 organisations in India and overseas have taken advantage of consultancy services.

NOEL D’CUNHA

Noel D’Cunha is a prominent journalist specialised across both print and packaging facets in India.

Being at the helm of the burgeoning print and packaging industry in India, D’Cunha is currently working at Haymarket SAC Publishing India publications as a managing editor.

Besides his expertise in both business and technology fronts, his forte has been Digital Print, Ink, Buyers’ Guide, show bulletins, roundtable conferences and his popular Sunday Column, published online since February 2015 every Sunday at 10am.

His USP: A playlist of RD Burman songs on his phone.

WASEEM JEENAH

Waseem Jeenah is an innovate, circular economy and plastic packaging though-leader. In just a few years in the Middle East and Africa he has grown circular economy initiatives, sat on the board of prestigious organizations such as PETCO South Africa and Project Circle UAE and delivered some impressive sustainable packaging solutions.

He has successfully created plastic sustainability programs for Unilever in his role as R&D Packaging Manager

Homecare Africa and as R&D Leader Plastic Sustainability MENA. Having delivered cross industry partnerships that deliver growth across the plastic value chain. He has in depth understanding of not only technical but also social and economic reasons for sustainability.

His passion for sustainability comes from his love of the oceans and scuba diving, where he has seen in real time the impact our decisions make on the oceans. When asked about why he does what he does with such determination his simple response: “If not me, then who”.

Waseem graduated from the University of Cape Town with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and has held various roles in Unilever since 2014. He is currently based in Dubai where he is the R&D Leader Home and Hygiene (MENA, Russia, Turkey).

PRIME AWARDS 2021 - PURPOSE?

Our primary aim to host PRIME Awards 2021 is to celebrate “Packaging Excellence”

in Quality, Innovation, Performance and Sustainability that packaging brand owners, converters and students have accomplished across Design & Innovation, Print-

Converting, Sustainability and CSR sectors of the industry.

THE JUDGES ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Evidence of unique/outstanding design, shelf appeal, consumer impact,.

• Quality of packaging print and finishing

• Overall Packaging Quality

• Packaging Innovation - ergonomics, shape and structure

• Sustainability– Extent of minimal packaging, recyclable materials, reusable materials/

packaging, circular economy aspect in the package

• CSR Impact – How much value does the package add to the social causes

CHOOSING YOUR CATEGORY

1. Choose the correct category based on the packaging segment and end-use of your job 2. You can apply for more than one category 3. You cannot submit the same job for more than 1 category.

FILLING THE ENTRY FORM

• Please fill out separate entry forms for each entry (category-wise)

• Entry forms should be filled in English

• Entry samples must be clearly specified and marked with the category code as per the category mentioned in the Entry Form.

• Entry Forms must be filled carefully, completely and with maximum information

The Entry Process

• It would be difficult to assess your samples if the forms and the data required are incomplete hence incomplete forms may be rejected

• Although our judging jury comprises experts in their respective sectors of packaging, giving a brief description (150 to 200 words) about the entry will help them understand the job well and judge the entry appropriately

• Remember you are being judged for innovation, quality, sustainability and

excellence. So please submit your very best entries that have a mix of both skill and quality.

• Each entry must be accompanied by 2 identical samples of the product.

• A signed copy of the entry form needs to be added with each Entry.

• Total payment should be completed before / during submission.

• Entries should be packed carefully and physically submitted or couriered to:

• All Brand Owners and Creative Agencies in the Middle East & Africa region are eligible for entry

• All Packaging Converters and Printers in the Middle East & Africa region are eligible for entry

• The jury will judge each category

individually according to its specific tasks and requirements.

• Each entry will be judged exclusively on the merits of the submitted job.

• The decision of the jury is final.

Entrants can submit an unlimited number of entries.

Q. WHEN WILL THE RESULTS BE ANNOUNCED?

We have been seeing more and more Brand owners striving to exhibit their CSR projects by creating closer relationship with consumers by offering financial donations, charities and other nonprofit acts of doing good.

At a time when profits and margins are hard- pressed, Packaging MEA would be gald to honour and recognize companies that have worked towards “Packaging for a Cause”.
