Pro-Vision
®Service Delivery Software
OVERVIEW
Pro-Vision® 3.x is MRV’s service orchestration platform that gives service providers the automated
tools to design, provision, manage, diagnose, visualize and optimize both packet and optical access networks. It seamlessly automates the provisioning, orchestration and management for thousands of network elements and millions of services. Pro-Vision’s packet and optical tools bring a new level of service control to networks and provide a suite of applications for automated service provisioning, assurance, monitoring, reporting, inventory and maintenance.
Designed to support programmable data formats and APIs for standards-based open networking from any vendor, it can be the platform for software defined networking (SDN) at the network edge.

• Enables faster time-to-market for new services
• Provides analytics to optimize use of scarce network resources • Significantly lowers network operational costs
• Manages convergence of both packet and optical networks • Supports much faster network changes and improvements • Provides analytics to support service differentiation
CARRIER ETHERNET SERVICE MANAGEMENT
Pro-Vision offers a graphical environment to streamline and automate the provisioning and management of MRV’s OptiSwitch®
Carrier Ethernet 2.0 access and pre aggregation devices. It will also manage other 3rd party devices. Pro-Vision generates reports in PDF, Excel or HTML file formats. Users can generate chronological reports on-demand from multiple report types including: SLA metrics, performance management, fault management and device inventory among many others.
Zero-Touch Configuration
Another SDN oriented feature is zero-touch provisioning which automates and speeds Carrier Ethernet service changes. It reduces manual provisioning both in the network operations center and in the field thereby reducing operating expense and supports service scaling in real-time. With zero-touch operators can schedule automatic software updates, push new FPGA versions, send configuration files, enable network database synchronization and automate backup/restore functions.
A-to-Z Service Provisioning
A service wizard simplifies scalable provisioning of carrier Ethernet services from end-to-end. Services can be created from one screen with a three-step process: 1) create a customer 2) add end points and 3) select the appropriate bandwidth profiles within the specified SLA. Predefined service profile templates streamline the overall efficiency of service creation.
Real-Time Performance Monitoring
Performance monitoring provides end-to-end visibility into service performance to insure that customer SLAs are met. Pro-Vision incorporates flexible real-time data collection mechanisms that can poll a large number of devices and thresholds can be set to generate user-defined alarms based on polling data. Real-time and historic performance monitoring is based on MEF Service Operations, Administration and Management (SOAM) as well as applicable ITU-T and IEEE standards.
SLA Reporting and Analytics
Customer Web Portals
Visibility into service performance is provided through customer web portal features that allow customer monitoring of service performance from the web browser based on service provider defined views. It provides customizable visibility into customer SLA performance data through an intuitive GUI dashboard.
OPTICAL TRANSPORT SERVICE MANAGEMENT
Pro-Vision provides a common service management framework to discover and manage MRV’s optical transport FiberDriver® and OptiDriver® WDM devices including power supplies, amplifiers,
transponders, OTN modules and reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers (ROADM). The optical channel monitoring displays the health of WDM services by wavelength power, digital diagnostics, statistics failures conditions and monitors the per port bandwidth usage.

Circuit Configuration and Monitoring
Circuit creation allows create circuit per customer from the source port to the destination port. Once the circuit is defined, it can be monitored to check the health of the circuit end to end. Circuit monitor allows monitor the status of the circuit up or down, digital diagnostics (The transmit and receive power level, temperature and bias current) and utilization (eastbound and west bound port utilization).
Optical ROADM Configuration
Pro-Vision enables point and click configuration of individual wavelengths on multi-degree ROADMs. It prevents potential errors and reduces provisioning time. The optical power balancing features adjust the optical channels as new wavelengths are configured, making it possible to intelligently control network elements remotely.
Optical Transport Network (OTN) Services
Pro-Vision provides Optical Transport Network (OTN) OAM performance monitoring with history and threshold settings. It supports management of optical modules that enable the user to visualize Forward Error Correction (FEC) and OTN OAM performance statistics. Point-to-point and ring-based transport architectures using muxponder and transponder functions are supported.
Optical Spectrum Analyzer
Pro-Vision provides real-time visual monitoring of the optical spectrum and channel occupancy. Network managers can inventory what channels are in use or available. The OSA enables real-time trouble shooting and monitoring of all channels throughout the entire optical spectrum.
COMMON PACKET AND OPTICAL MANAGEMENT FEATURES
Pro-active Fault Management
Automated fault management enables rapid fault identification and troubleshooting reducing operating expense and increasing customer satisfaction. Pro-Vision supports alarm categorization with open, closed and acknowledged states. An alarm drill down feature categorizes faults by severity, resource type, and time of day. The event/ trap processing supports the filtering, suppression, or propagation as well as intelligent alarm correlation.
Multi-Level Security
Pro-Vision provides flexible multi-user security levels that allow the administrator to control specific operations, views, maps, audit trails, and logs that can be accessed by individual users. These security levels reduce the risk of unauthorized access and miss-configuration.
Open Northbound API
Pro-Visions open architecture supports a northbound Application Programming Interface (API) that enables OSS/BSS applications to retrieve fault, configuration and performance data from the Pro-Vision server. The API is based on Web services SOAP/XML standards, SNMP and supports IBM NetCool alerts/event monitoring system.
Carrier Class Scalability and Availability
The Pro-Vision platform is built upon a powerful distributed architecture supporting Carrier class scalability, reliability and high availability. The platform provides common functions for device discovery, inventory management and full fault management, configuration management, accounting, provisioning and security (FCAPS). The platform is IPV6 ready enabling management of IPV6 networks. The flexible and modular design of the Pro-Vision platform allows scaling to a very large number of devices supported by Tier 1 service providers. It is a client-server architecture with high availability web clients that communicate with a distributed multi-tier architecture of redundant front-end, back end and database servers.
