The venue is the The Holy Souls Social Club, 1159 Warwick Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham, B27 7BP
Location
The club is located on the Warwick Road, between Birmingham (5miles) and Solihull (3miles). The entrance to the club is via a drive way,
located between the Holy Souls Church and Ibrahims Restaurant, opposite the KFC Restaurant.
Clients requiring local accomodation are recommended to use the Best Western Westley Hotel, which is just 0.4miles from the venue. Plenty
of other hotels are also located in Solihull/Birmingham area, to suit all varying budgets.
Viewing Arrangements
Viewing will take place as detailed on the previous page.
As the more valuable items are being stored at the local bank, viewing at any other time will be by arrangement with Sporting Memorys

A client may instruct the auctioneer to bid on their behalf up to a fixed amount. The commission will be executed at a price as

Goods Collection
No goods can be collected until payment has been made in full. In the event of a client paying by cheque, an amount exceeding the bank
guarantee card limit, then the goods will not be released until the cheque has cleared. NO EXCEPTION WILL BE, MADE IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
unless prior arrangement has been made with Robert Adcock of Sporting Memory's Worldwide Auctions Ltd, which may include the references
being required from the client’s bankers.
Despatch and postal charges
All lots not paid for or collected on the day of the sale will be sent to the successful purchasers at the exact cost charged by the
Post Office or Courier Service requested. Any packing required will again be re-charged at cost. Sporting Memorys Worldwide
Auctions/Footy Progs will levy no charge for other packing costs.
Any lots sent to the purchaser, which were delayed due to cheque clearance, will also attract all postage costs.

The Famous Boxing promotor, who was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in New York, during June 1999. The 2 oversize gloves are covered in signatures of World Championship Boxers including, Spinks, Patterson, Davies, Basilo, Chandler, Foster, Carter, etc. In addition is the Limited Edition programme for the event and a small collection of privately taken photographs. Limited Company, issued in December 1920, the certificate is signed as directors, by the 2 men most important to the formation of Leeds Utd AFC. Mr Alf Masser and Mr Hilton Crowther, and as company secretary, Arthur Fairclough who managed them to their first promotion. Masser, a local solicitor, chaired the first meeting (October 17th 1919) at which Leeds Utd were formed. This took place in the afternoon of the same day on which Leeds City was wound up and its assets (including the players) auctioned off. Crowther who was the Huddersfield Town Chairman in 1919 initially tried to move his club to Elland Road, to become Leeds Utd, a moved sanctioned by the Football League, but this fell through. Crowther, undeterred, left Huddersfield to become Chairman of Leeds and loaned the club £35000 to be repaid as and when they achieved first division status. He brought with him Arthur Fairclough, who was installed as the first Leeds Utd manager from 1920 to 1927 and led them to the first division with promotion in 1923/1924. Charlie Barnett was born in Cheltenham in 1910, who played in 20 tests from 1933 to to 1948, he was one of Wisden's 5 Cricketers of the year in 1937, he played cricket for Gloucestershire, before retiring from County Cricket and playing for Rochdale, prior to becoming a School Coach, he died in 1982. LOT 0145 1954 Gil Merrick, an England International Football Cap. The cap is from the Hungary v England game played at the Nepstadion on 23/05/1954. England lost this game, by Seven goals to one, which is the team's record defeat, however it is felt that he was unfairly blamed for the heavy defeat. The vendor's grandfather, a close friend of Gil, tormented him frequently about the score, so much in fact that Gil threw the cap accross the room telling him 'to keep it'. Gilbert Harold Merrick was born in Sparkhill, Birmingham in 1922, he went on to play for Birmingham and England. He won 23 England Caps, retiring from playing football in 1959. He then went on to manage the club he loved until being asked to resign in 1964. He was that annoyed by the way he was treated by the directors, he refused to enter St Andrews until the late 1990's when he was a guest of the Birmingahm City Historial Society. At that 'Evening with Gil Merrick' over 400 people filled a room that had a maximum capacity of 240! It is fair to say that 'he brought the house down', Gil and many attending members shed a few tears that night. Estimate £1000/£1200
