High-quality further education for skilled employees and executives, as well as application-oriented research and consultancy, complete the services offered by HSBA. Our Executive Education programme draws on the management know-how of our teaching staff and on our manifold experi-ences with our MBA courses for people in employment. We can thus offer the whole range of modern Business Admi-nistration and related topics as customised further education in modular format. The demand for high applicability, good organisational quality and the opportunity for the participants for professional exchange of views are the success criteria

for further education – and are accordingly implemented in our programme.

HSBA is strongly infl uenced by the model of the honourable merchant, whose entrepreneurial dealings lead to success in business while also assuming social responsibility. Accordingly, we signed the six “Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME)” of the UN, which aim to train responsible future managers.

“Not only is the dual principle the foundation of our dual and part-time study programmes, it also informs

all of HSBA’s actions. A specifi c characteristic of HSBA is its orientation to the values of the honourable merchant, who combines his entrepreneurial dealings with the assumption of social responsibility.“

Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, President of HSBA

AS A STATE-RECOGNISED third-level institution, HSBA offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in busi-ness as dual and part-time courses for around 840 students. We have more than 250 cooperating compa-nies, which are actively involved in designing and developing our courses in order to ensure that they are constantly aligned with business needs. This means that HSBA graduates are perfectly prepared for the requirements of industry and have excellent career opportunities.

In line with the concept of life-long learning, HSBA’s portfolio includes bachelor‘s, master‘s and doctoral degrees as well as an Executive Education programme. In this way, HSBA accompanies its partner companies in their personnel development measures during the different phases of basic and further professional training.

All of HSBA‘s study programmes and further training courses pursue a common goal: to prepare the students and partici-pants in the best possible way for the professional challenges of industry. When structuring our offerings, we are guided by six basic principles.

Duality approach

HSBA’s academic approach follows the fundamental principle of duality: combining a challenging theoretical study programme with practical professional experience. Students acquire knowledge and methodological skills in the lectures and apply these in practice. Based on their experience at the company, the knowledge acquired is discussed, reflected upon and continuously expanded on in the lectures. In order to ensure the transfer of scientific theory to company practice, we ensure that our teaching staff have several years of profes-sional experience in well-known companies and advanced teaching skills.

“HSBA stands for the principle of duality. We are firmly convinced that excellent professional qualifica

-tion can be best achieved when challenging academic theory is combined with systematic practical application of what has been learned.”

Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, President of HSBA

“With the applied courses it offers, HSBA creates the perfect basis for graduates to embark on a

successful career.”

Employability approach

HSBA’s study programmes are geared to the needs of practice and open up excellent career opportunities. Our graduates have a solid basis in business administration and are quickly in a position to respond to professional change.

Value approach

Excellence – Commitment – Fairness. HSBA is designed on the basis of this encompassing motto. In our guiding princi-ples, we have undertaken to observe the values of the honourable merchant. Business ethics is incorporated in the study programmes as a cross-disciplinary topic.

International approach

Internationality is an essential component of a balanced course programme, particularly in Hamburg, a city that sees it self as the gateway to the world. HSBA considers the international nature of the course contents to be vital, offering a wide range of study programmes and events in English as well as encouraging study abroad.

Network approach

HSBA maintains close connections with a large number of institutions in Hamburg and around the world. Our partner companies are at the core of our strong corporate network, flanked by the Association of Friends and Sponsors, the HSBA Alumni Association and our international partner universities. Principle of service gearing

HSBA provides intensive support to students, prospective students and companies, and is also happy to provide one-to-one advice. Students receive academic supervision from the teaching staff and support in all other issues from the management. Companies can discuss their questions and suggestions directly with lecturers and management. * Several specialisations (cp. page 11) ** Several specialisations (cp. page 12)

Dual bachelor‘s degrees

An excellent university education for the company managers of tomorrow

“HSBA offers the perfect match of theory and practice.

The students and lecturers incorporate contemporary

issues from the companies in the lectures. At the same time we use teaching and research to translate current

academic findings into practice.”

Prof. Dr. Torsten Keller, Course Head Business Administration

THE BASIC PRINCIPLE OF duality is based on using the exchange between the two places of learning, i.e. the univer-sity and the company, to equip students with academic and practical professional skills at the same time (see box below). This method has been in use in Germany for decades as part of the system of dual professional training, and is seen as an important reason for the success of the German economy. The dual course of studies has been a permanent fixture in

the education system since the mid-1970s, with currently more than 60,000 students on dual study programmes. Win-win situation for students and companies

Dual courses of study provide a win-win situation for students and companies alike. The students receive an excellent educa-tion and can pay their own way while studying. In the best case scenario, the company that trains them will offer them a permanent position after they graduate. The companies in turn can recruit motivated and high-performing young people at an early stage, and can train them for practical work. Thus, the companies secure their medium-term need for new skilled employees.

The role of the company

In university education that uses the dual system, the partner companies have a key role to play. Not only are they respon-sible for the students’ training, they also pay a large portion of the course fees as well as a monthly salary.

Our dual study courses

Part-time master’s degrees

An excellent university education for the company managers of tomorrow

All of the master’s degree programmes are aimed at ambitious students who are willing to invest in the acquisition of knowledge and methodological skills. There is a special focus on internationality, with a correspondingly high percentage of international students. Events that require on-site presence take place in full-time weeks and over (long) weeks, making it possible to combine these with work obligations.

M.Sc. Global Management and Governance

This graduate programme is taught entirely in English under the patronage of the Honourable Society of Hamburg Merchants (VEEK) and offers an applied study programme with challenging contents for younger graduates with bache-lor’s degrees in business and economics with the guiding principles internationality, governance and business ethics. A major highlight of the study programme is the project module abroad and the mentoring programme of the VEEK members. There are options to specialise in Finance, Entrepreneurship or Marketing. The study course takes place over a period of 30 months (120 ECTS).

MBA Corporate Management

The MBA in Corporate Management is a two-year MBA with the possibility of various specialisations (e.g. insurance, banking, strategic management, e-business). While the gene-ralist part of the course is taught in English, there are specia-THE HSBA MASTER’S DEGREES combine a challenging

master’s study programme with professional work and access to extensive networks, in particular through HSBA’s close connections to Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce. All of the study programmes encourage future executives to think and act strategically and sustainably, thus laying the foundations for professional success. The teaching staff members include well-known university lecturers with a proven academic ground as well as speakers with diverse international back-grounds and broad professional experience.

lisations that are taught in English and in German. The degree counts for 90 ECTS. It is targeted at younger professionals who do not yet have extensive professional experience and who wish to refresh or add to their management know-how. MBA Honourable Leadership

This part-time MBA study programme taught entirely in English combines a generalist MBA with a focus on entrepreneurship and leadership. The two-year programme is geared to gradu-ates of all disciplines (e.g. engineers, gradugradu-ates of law or German studies) with extensive professional experience in company management. The degree counts for 90 ECTS. Like the M.Sc. degree, the MBA focuses on the topics of interna-tional management and business ethics. It is likewise under the patronage of VEEK, which also provides the group of mentors for the programme.

MBA Shipping

The English-language MBA in Shipping is geared to profes-sionals from the maritime industry. The curriculum comprises seven modules taught in Hamburg, London, Athens/Piraeus and Dubai. The 60 ECTS awarded can be acquired on a part-time basis over two years (regular track) or as a fast-track course of studies over one year. It is not essential for candi-dates to have a university degree if they can provide proof of relevant work experience.

JOB & MASTER, mentoring, networks

Finding a cooperating partner for a master‘s study course with JOB & MASTER

JOB & MASTER is a free-of-charge placement service for applicants who wish to combine a challenging academic education at HSBA and valuable professional experience. In cooperation with renowned companies in Hamburg, we look for (bachelor’s) graduates who want to be employed as junior staff members in the company whilst completing the part-time M.Sc. degree.

Mentors of the Honourable Society of Hamburg Merchants (VEEK)

Students of the M.Sc. Global Management & Governance and the MBA Honourable Leadership at HSBA benefit from a special mentoring programme involving the Honourable Society of Hamburg Merchants (VEEK). Experienced entrepreneurs affi-liated to VEEK support and accompany the HSBA master‘s students on their path to the management levels of business. Networks

In all HSBA master‘s study courses networking is an integral part. As well as VEEK, the German Shipowner Association (VDR), Association of German Banks, Finanzplatzinitiative and the Marketing Club Hamburg also support the master‘s study courses.

Benefits for students

Professional support for starting and building your career

“My studies at HSBA were intense and challenging. But it was worth it.

After I graduated, I was able to start directly in the job I wanted at Haspa.”

Sören Schröder, Business Administration, Class of 2011, partner company: Hamburger Sparkasse AG

“I chose HSBA because the course is

geared to practice. Many of the

professors work in industry and enrich

the lectures with their practical

experience. It is very pleasant and effective to learn in the small study groups.”

Anika Schlütter, Business Administration, Class of 2014, partner company: Colgate Palmolive GABA GmbH

IT IS THE GOAL OF HSBA to give excellent training to our students together with the partner company. The factors that we consider important here include the academic level of the curriculum, but also the campus environment and how the members of the university interact with one another. It is important for us that students and participants feel welcome, because this is the only way to ensure optimum learning success. Additionally, more than 95% of companies rate the study programmes as good or very good in terms of the specialist knowledge learned and the methods applied, while more than 90% of students receive offers to be kept on at the company for their next professional step immediately after fi nishing their studies. Almost 95% of graduates are satisfi ed with their study programme on the whole.

Excellent career prospects

All HSBA students are generally among the best school-leavers, open-minded and ready to perform highly at univer-sity and the company. Therefore they have the best prerequi-sites for a successful professional life.

Recognised quality of the courses

All of HSBA’s study programmes are FIBAA-accredited and have received excellent ratings in current CHE rankings. As a university, HSBA has institutional accreditation from the German Council of Science and Humanities.

Excellent study conditions

The bright and friendly atmosphere of our campus provides students with the best possible conditions for learning. Our small study groups facilitate productive discussions and work. The HSBA campus is located in the heart of the city, directly adjacent to the city hall and the Chamber of Commerce. HSBA’s Library

Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce Commerzbibliothek is one of the oldest specialist libraries for business and econo-mics in the world and offers a comprehensive selection of literature on the social and economic sciences.

Student life

Despite the pressures of a part-time course of study alongside work, HSBA students get involved on behalf of their university and fellow students. In addition to the student representatives, there are more than ten committees (see page 28).

“What I particularly enjoyed about my master’s were the proximity to Hamburg's business world, the practice-based approach of the lecturers, the excellent mentoring

programme and my enthusiastic fellow

students. Doing a part-time master’s at HSBA was the best choice for me!”

Elisa Levermann, M.Sc. Global Management and Governance, Class of 2014, partner company: DAD Deutscher Auto Dienst GmbH

business administration, I had the

opportunity to meet interesting people, get fascinating insights into companies

operating in Hamburg and enjoy excellent professional training at Reemtsma Cigarettenfabrik.”

Phillip Drexler, Business Administration, Class of 2007, partner company: Reemtsma Cigarettenfabrik GmbH

“Hamburg as a place to study was a great choice: the cultural activities on offer, the cafés in the Schanzenviertel

and the maritime atmosphere of the port. I am part of the social committee at HSBA that supports many

interes-ting projects in Hamburg.“

Anna Rönnfeldt, Business Adminis tration, Class of 2015, partner company: Service-Bund GmbH & Co. KG

“The quality of the professors, together with the networking possibilities, the

combination for making HSBA the business school of choice for German and international students.”

Juan Etchart, MBA Honourable Leadership, Class of 2012, partner company: Ernst & Young GmbH Advisory Services

orientation and a high academic standard, these studies offer a perfect

starting point to work in this interna-tio nal industry.”

Alessandra Seidel, Maritime Management, Class of 2014, partner company: Hellespont Ship Management GmbH & Co. KG

“The conventional business

administra-tion studies were somehow too dry for me. But the Media Management

programme enabled me to study business administration and media

management at the same time, and

also to work in the creative advertising sector.”

Carmela Witt, Media Management, Class of 2013, partner company: Scholz & Friends Brand Affairs GmbH

“All those who choose a study programme or further training course at HSBA can rely on independent

Executive Education

Professional support for starting and building your career

“The HSBA Executive Education programme consistently implements the maxims of ‘lifelong learning’. With our various compact and expert seminars, participants can acquire up-to-date specialist knowledge on MBA level on all relevant

management topics in a concentrated and solid

manner.”

Prof. Dr. Inga Schmidt, Vice President Academic & Management Education, Quality Management

THE EXECUTIVE EDUCATION AT HSBA comprises seminars and courses for compact knowledge transfer. An overview of the seminars can be found on page 42.

Our Executive Education is multi-faceted and designed to suit exactly the needs of the participants and the companies. The courses offered cover management topics from the fields of “Strategy & Leadership”, “Marketing & Sales”, “Finance &

Accounting”, “Media & IT”, “Applied Economics” and “Maritime & Logistics”. These are taught in short compact seminars or more comprehensive expert seminars.

The Executive Education courses offered by HSBA are appli-cation-oriented and practice–related. They place tools in the hands of companies and their employees in the Hamburg metropolitan region with which they can deal with current economic challenges. We ensure the practicality of our courses through continuous coordination in our company advisory boards and other bodies.

The Executive Education programme at HSBA is demanding and of a high standard. It is our aim to communicate the essential competences on an MBA level, for example by using case studies. The participants must therefore have sufficient professional and management experience so that they can learn from one another and use the time in class effectively. The Executive Education programme of HSBA offers manifold opportunities for people to develop their own networks – for example, through contacts with MBA students and alumni of HSBA and other universities. In addition, there are special events targeted at specific groups such as the “eBusi-ness-Lounge” or ones offered by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

Target groups

The programme is targeted at employees who wish to develop their management competences further on an MBA level – without directly aiming for another degree. The typical parti-cipant has a first university degree and some years` profes-sional experience. Since our Executive Education programme combines up-to-date theory and practice, not only lawyers and engineers can benefit from the courses offered, but also people with a commercial and business background. Further-more, the HSBA courses are partly held in English and espe-cially suitable for international participants.

Compact seminars on clearly defined subjects

Our compact seminars communicate fundamental manage-ment competences in concentrated form which are compa-tible with working life – oriented to the classical functional areas of a company (for example, Financing, HR, Marketing and so on). They are especially suitable for interested people with, for instance, an engineering or legal background but with no explicit education in business administration. Duration: approx. 5 days, about 40 contact hours, concen-trated on a few weekends.

Expert seminars for a more comprehensive acquisition of competences

The expert seminars enable skilled employees and executives to educate themselves further in specific areas. The seminars are aimed at interested people who have worked for many years in the commercial area, possibly also with first leadership experience, or a first university degree in a relevant subject. Duration: approx. 20 days, between 100 and 160 contact hours, spread over several months.

Quality assurance

With regard to demand, tuition and group members, the courses offered are on the level of an MBA course of study. As what we offer is developed and quality-checked by profes-sors and lecturers and also partially is externally accredited, we can ensure the quality of the seminars.

Final qualification

The participants can choose between a Certificate of Atten-dance and a Certificate (if the examination was taken). They receive Credit Points (according to the European Credit Transfer System) for most seminars, which can be credited to an MBA course of study which may be planned later.

“The economics lectures taught me the theoretical

fundamentals, allowing me not only to understand

global economic interdependencies but also to structure their complexity in models. This means that I can develop strategic decision-making templates and efficient solutions for how my company operates.”

Dr. Andreia Tolciu, Management Advisor, Hamburg Port Authority

“The competency of the lecturers at HSBA, both from an academic perspective and in terms of having an applied orientation, testifies to the quality of the seminars and lectures.”

Volker Rothenpieler, Chairman of the Management Board, Putz & Partner Unternehmensberatung AG

Learning situation in the seminar “Key Account Management”

“Selling its products and services successfully is the be-all and end-all for every company. HSBA offers suitable and practice-based further training on marke

-ting and sales topics, both for upcoming managers and for experienced executives.”

Cooperative doctorates with HSBA

Professional support for starting and building your career

“For us as a company, practice-based doctorates lead to real added value. From process optimisation to the development of new products – every company has a suitable topic.”

Dr. Jochen Haußer, Partner, KPMG

“My MBA study course at HSBA already convinced me of the professional expertise of the university. The cooperative doctorate programme therefore was the

perfect choice for me. In cooperation with the

Claussen-Simon Foundation I now receive great support - friendly and professional.”

Katharina Klein, Doctoral Student at HSBA

WITH THE CLAUSSEN-SIMON GRADUATE CENTRE selected doctoral students receive support and systematic supervision within the framework of cooperative doctorate projects with HSBA partner universities. The intensive supervision by HSBA professors and a high-class programme of academic seminars offer excellent conditions for doctoral students. The part-time study model allows doctoral students to remain integrated in their companies or to be employed as research associates.

Academic partners

HSBA looks for a suitable partner university for the admitted candidate. Cooperation agreements already exist with the Andrássy University Budapest, the Napier University Edinburgh as well as the Jacobs University Bremen. Further partners are for example the University Münster and the Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg.

Seminars offered

The Claussen-Simon Graduate Centre at HSBA offers three types of seminars held in English. Expert seminars are held by reputed speakers and deal with current academic research topics exclusively for the group of doctoral students. In Mode-rated Case Discussions, the individual projects and topics are discussed in a structured manner within the group of doctoral students. At the Member Presentation, the doctoral students present their interim fi ndings to representatives from academia and from industry. The seminars are organised so as to accommodate work requirements. In addition to the seminars offered, the doctoral students can complete seminar modules at a partner university. This takes roughly two full-time weeks or three weekends per year.

Supervision of doctoral students

Each doctoral student is allocated to two supervisors who oversee the doctorate project. The doctoral students and

Doctorates completed through the Claussen-Simon Graduate Centre at HSBA should have a business or economics focus. Consequently, only graduates with master’s degrees in busi-ness and economics can be considered. As the university for business in Hamburg, HSBA also attaches great importance to a good balance between the practical and academic perspectives when defi ning doctoral topics. There is a special focus on taking into account aspects related to business ethics.

Academic title

The academic title is conferred by HSBA’s cooperating partner university. Edinburgh Napier University confers a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), while Jacobs University Bremen and Andrássy University Budapest both confer a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Both titles entitle recipients to use “Dr.” before their name.

Research at HSBA

Research for practice

HSBA CONSIDERS IT ESSENTIAL to expand the research structures. HSBA sees itself as a link between academia and industry, in particular with the focus of creating added value for practice through its research activities. Thus the aim of research at HSBA is to be of an applied nature, at least indi-rectly. In commissioned research projects, we work together with our clients to develop the subject and the appropriate methodology for new projects. In the case of advisory projects, we transfer our research findings to practice.

Research and teaching

At HSBA, teaching and research are closely interlinked. The findings gained from the research projects are incorporated directly into our teaching. Equally, ideas and questions that arise from the students’ experience can lead to specific

rese-arch projects. This interaction between teaching, reserese-arch and professional practice ensures that our curricula are up to date and supports the applied nature of the research topics. The interlinking of research, academic training and teaching takes place in HSBA’s departments. Additionally, institutes have been founded where research focus areas are pursued in more depth.

Dr. Jürgen Meyer Foundation

The Dr. Jürgen Meyer Foundation funds the Chair of Interna-tional Business Ethics and Sustainability, which is particularly dedicated to research in the area of business ethics and for example organises an annual summer school on this topic. Research networks

Our professors present the findings of their research projects for discussion at conferences and specialist seminars. Projects carried out jointly with interna tional universities, as well as EU-subsidised and externally funded projects, support the exchange of knowledge between specialists and the creation of academic networks. There are particularly strong links for cooperation with the Hamburgisches WeltWirtschaftsInstitut (HWWI).

Promoting scope for research

The foundation Stiftung zur Förderung der HSBA was set up at our university back in early 2007 with the aim of equipping HSBA professors with the necessary scope and financial means to be able to devote themselves to research projects. “Research and an international approach are

becoming more and more important for HSBA. Joint

projects with industry and international partners from

the world of academia are hugely significant in this context.”

Student involvement

A university that is full of life and has a passion for learning

HSBA ATTACHES A GREAT DEAL of importance to student involvement. We are committed to encouraging our students to engage in extracurricular initiatives, as we consider volun-tary involvement to be central to personal development and to training soft skills and methodological skills.

This multifaceted involvement of HSBA students is particularly noteworthy in view of the demands placed on them by completing a part-time degree alongside work. Our students contribute in line with their interests and talents, helping to

shape the development of the university.

In particular, it is the joint activities of the students that make up the special spirit of HSBA, whether that is the annual Arielle weekend or their involvement in the WHU Euromasters in Vallendar.

A large range of different committees bundle the activities and ideas of the students. For example, students organise an annual symposium, perform in the HSBA band, represent their university at trade fairs and get involved in community projects. This creates the diverse and exciting life on campus that will fill any one with enthusiasm who has experienced the students in their projects. Student committees include:

Stock Market Club Cheerleading Entrepreneurs’ club Events committee HSBA band HSBA innovation HSBA Finance Conference team HSBA Hockey HSBA Rowing HSBA Symposium International committee Sports committee Trade fair team Committee for commu-nity projects News committee

HSBA has a sporting spirit. In addition to the many impressive individual achievements by HSBA students – which even include Olympic gold medals – rowing and hockey play a very special role at HSBA. One highlight in the events calendar is the yearly Hanse Boat Race, in which HSBA rowers compete against the team from Jacobs University in Bremen.

Studying in Hamburg

A university that is full of life and has a passion for learning

“What is special about HSBA is that the students themselves can help to shape their university. There are numerous committees, a band, a rowing and a hockey team and much more. Also, the students can organise events under the auspices of HSBA, such

as the Symposium or the HSBA Finance

Conference.”

HAMBURG IS CONSIDERED to be one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. The Inner Alster lake in the centre of the city, its proximity to two oceans, the large range of diverse leisure activities and excellent shopping are just some of the factors that make Hamburg one of the top ten city destinations in Europe. It is easy to find a place to relax in this green metro-polis. Almost half of the city is taken up by green spaces, water and wooded areas. The city has more trees than inha-bitants and five times as many bridges as Venice.

Hamburg is one of Europe’s most dynamic business regions and home to a large number of companies with global opera-tions. As a seaport, it is traditionally an important location for foreign trade as well as a leading financial centre in Germany. The industrial sector also plays a major role, for example civil aviation. In addition, Hamburg not only has a rich publishing tradition, but has also made a name for itself in creative adver-tising.

Hamburg’s diversity and vital force is also reflected in the city’s cultural life. From musicals, cabaret and theatre to a vibrant club scene, local cultural centres and galleries and museums – Hamburg has a lot to offer.

It is easy to feel at home in Hamburg, which is why the city has in recent years become a popular place to study and live for many people from other parts of Germany and from abroad. The identity of a cosmopolitan city like Hamburg also encompasses ensuring the safety of all of its residents. Students are in good hands in Hamburg.

Students at HSBA study in the heart of Hamburg, directly adjacent to the city hall and the stock exchange, at the hub of the city’s social and economic life. Seminars take place either at the Handelskammer City Campus or in the new Handels kammer InnovationsCampus.

“I chose Hamburg for my studies because of its international flair and many cultural and social activities. At first people may seem reserved, but as soon as you get to know them better they are reliable and great friends for life.”

HSBA networks and Alumni Association

A strong network – for life

THE HSBA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION connects all of HSBA’s interested graduates and gives them the opportunity to enhance and broaden their own network to include students from other years. Every second graduate is a member of this association and pays membership fees, emphasising gradu-ates’ sense of loyalty to their university.

One key component of the success of the Alumni Association is the variety of backgrounds of the alumni. HSBA alumni can be found in their training company, as master students at renowned universities worldwide, as doctorates or

postdoc-International networks

A strong network – for life

HSBA IS CONTINUOUSLY expanding its international networks, using a large number of cooperations and interna-tional contacts around the globe to promote intercultural exchange at a high academic, business and social level. HSBA cooperates with different foreign universities, both for (Erasmus) student exchanges and for lecturer mobility. The partnerships with the University of Dubai, Andrássy University Budapest, HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences “It is important to me to build up an international network that will live on after the studies are over. In the future, I will be able to communicate with Spanish customers on a professional level.”

Helsinki and Novancia Business School Paris have been in place for more than fi ve years now. Work is currently underway on developing cooperations with other international universi-tie s .

Because HSBA study programmes are compatible with the ECTS system, credits obtained from other universities can be easily recognised.

HSBA’s English-language bachelor’s and master’s degrees also allow international students to complete a degree in business and to obtain an internationally recognised qualifi -cation at HSBA.

Furthermore, all of HSBA’s study programmes incorporate international aspects, and lecturers with an international back-ground make up an integral part of the university's team of lecturers. Some study programmes also involve one-week trips abroad – for example to Dublin or Singapore.

Students get international experience by working together with other students at HSBA and with colleagues with an international background in the participating companies. Other opportunities may include periods spent abroad through HSBA (Summer Schools, Erasmus semester abroad) or through the company (periods working at foreign partners).

toral research assistants, but also as successful company

founders. Nearly all alumni have made their way, are successful in their professional lives and willingly pass on their experience to the organisation.

The HSBA Alumni Association makes this experience available to all of its members and promotes the exchange between the alumni. It organises at least two events per year, some of which take place together with alumni of affi liated universities (including Bucerius Law School). The association also provides its members with an online register of members that includes information on master’s degrees, job offers and other activi-ties. Another aim of the association is the knowledge ex chan ge with current HSBA students, so that they can also benefi t from the experience of the alumni.

The HSBA Alumni Association sends out representatives to important networking bodies of HSBA such as the Board of Trustees or the Association of Friends and Sponsors and therefore participates actively in the strategic orientation of HSBA.

Alumni can attend HSBA events on political and business topics free of charge and can benefi t from reduced rates on HSBA’s further training courses.
