LEHIGH VALLEY (24-19) at PAWTUCKET (21-23) 7:05 pm

Lehigh Valley IronPigs RHP

Zach Eflin (5-0, 2.36

) vs.

Pawtucket Red Sox LHP

Eduardo Rodriguez (0-3, 4.29)

Home for the Holidays (Almost) –

The Pawtucket Red Sox – who enjoyed their only scheduled off-day during the month of May

yesterday - return to action tonight at McCoy Stadium to start their second 6-game homestand in just over two weeks. The homestand

begins with a 3-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs tonight at 7:05 pm, tomorrow at 7:05 pm, and Thursday at 11:05 am.

That will be followed by a 3-game series vs. Indianapolis (the first time the Sox will face an IL West opponent this season) as the Sox

will host the Indians on Friday at 7:05 pm, Saturday at 6:05 pm, and Sunday at 6:05 pm with fireworks to follow the Sunday night

Memorial Day eve game. For one of the rare occasions in recent times, the PawSox will not play at home on Memorial Day as they

will fly to Gwinnett, Georgia on Monday to open a 7-game southern sojourn to Gwinnett and Norfolk (May 30 – June 5).

ERod Back

– Boston Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez will begin his second rehab stint with the PawSox tonight. Eduardo originally

was sent to Pawtucket on a 30-day injury rehab assignment on April 28. He made four starts for the PawSox during that rehab going

0-3 with a 4.29 ERA. He was recalled to Boston on May 17 but remained on the Red Sox disabled list with recurring right knee

soreness. Rodriguez was placed on Boston’s disabled list on April 3 with a right knee patella subluxation suffered when his spike got

caught in the grass while shagging fly balls on February 29 in Fort Myers, FL.

Rodriguez, who turned 23 on April 7, began last season with the PawSox going 4-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 8 starts. He was recalled to

Boston on May 28 and made his Major League debut that night in Texas firing 7.2 innings of shutout ball to beat the Rangers. In 21

starts for Boston last season (as a 22-year-old) Eduardo went 10-6 with a 3.85 ERA. He was honored as the Red Sox Pitcher of the

Year and the Red Sox Rookie of the Year by the Boston Baseball Writers. Eddie was acquired by the Red Sox at the 2014 trade

deadline on July 31 from the Baltimore organization (Double-A Bowie) for LHP Andrew Miller.

Close But No Cigar

- Pawtucket most recently lost 3 of 4 in Buffalo last weekend and their last two defeats both came in walk-off

fashion as the Bisons scored the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the 9

th

-inning on Friday (6-5) and Sunday (2-1). The PawSox have

now suffered 5 walk-off losses this season compared to 2 walk-off wins. Furthermore, 11 of the 12 Pawtucket defeats in May have

come by either 1-run (6 times) or 2 runs (5 times). Their other loss was a 6-0 setback at Scranton on May 9.

Close Encounters

– More than half of Pawtucket’s 44 games this season (26 of 44 in fact) have been decided by either 1-run (6-8) or

2-runs (4-8).

Ups and Downs

– The PawSox have lost 3 of their last 4 games – that after they had won 4 of their previous 5 games from May 14

(G2) to May 18. Before that they dropped 5 of 7 from May 7 (G2) to May 14 (G1).

Last but not Least

- The Sox have been alone in last-place for three of the past four days - for the first time since April 14. Pawtucket

has already spent time in 1

st

, 2

nd

, 3

rd

, 4

th

, 5

th

and 6

th

-places thus far this season.

Getting to Know You

- This marks the fourth series between these two rivals already this season. The PawSox are 5-3 vs. the IronPigs

thus far going 1-2 here at McCoy but 4-1 at Lehigh Valley (where Pawtucket has actually won 7 of their last 9 games at Coca-Cola

Park in Allentown, PA).

Three’s Not a Charm

– Three times in a week span (May 12, May 16, and May 19) the PawSox had a chance to win three games in a

row which would have been a first since their 7-game winning streak from April 14-20. However, all three times the Sox failed in that

bid. Pawtucket won back-to-back games on May 10 & 11 in Scranton/WB but lost on May 12. They won two in a row on May 14

(G2) & 15 vs. Gwinnett but lost on May 16 to Norfolk. And again the Sox posted two straight wins on May 17 & 18 vs. Norfolk but

on May 19 in Buffalo they could not make it 3 consecutive wins for only the second time this season as they dropped a 7-5 decision to

the Bisons.

Hovering Around .500

– The PawSox returned to the .500 mark on the season on May 18 at 20-20 but they are presently 21-23. The

Sox had not been at .500 in two weeks since they were 13-13 on May 4. They reached a season-high 4-games above .500 on April 22

(at 10-6) and dropped to a season-low 3-games under .500 on both April 13 at 2-5 and May 9 (14-17). They need a win tonight to

avoid dipping to 3-games below .500 again.

North Face

- Pawtucket began the season by playing their first 34 games against their IL North division rivals (going 16-18 in those),

but during their last homestand they faced the IL South and went 4-2…taking 2 of 3 from the Gwinnett Braves and the Norfolk Tides

of the South. The Sox played in Buffalo over they weekend and lost 3 of 4 so they are now 17-21 within the North. Pawtucket was

36-55 vs. the IL North in 2015. Until last season, the Sox had only one losing season vs. North opponents in the previous seven years

(32-48 vs. the North in 2009).

The Road Home

– Pawtucket has gone 7-1, 2-5, 2-2, and 1-3 during their first four roadtrips this season. Pawtucket has gone 2-5, 2-2,

1-3, and 4-2 on their first four homestands.

Trying to Make Hay in May

– In 22 games thus far in May the Sox are hitting .257 (189-for-736) with 17 HR. Pitchers are 10-12

with a 3.68 ERA (86 ER in 193 IP).

Road vs. Home Numbers

– The PawSox are hitting .265 in their 23 road games (210-for-792) with 13 HR. They are hitting .251 in

their 21 home games (168-for-669) with 13 HR. Sox pitchers are 12-11 with a 3.22 ERA on the road (72 ER in 201.1 IP) and 9-12

with a 3.59 ERA at McCoy (73 ER in 183 IP).

Series Business

– The PawSox are 7-5-2 in their first 14 series this season (7 wins, 4 losses, and 2 splits). Pawtucket was 16-25-5 in

their 46 series last season (16 wins, 25 losses, and 5 splits).

This Season vs. Lehigh Valley

– The Sox are hitting .307 in the 8 games vs. Lehigh Valley (88-for-287) – by far their best average

against any IL opponent this season. The PawSox also have 6 HR vs. the IronPigs (3 by Chris Marrero, 2 by Justin Maxwell, and 1 by

Sam Travis). Sox pitchers are 5-3 with a 3.84 ERA (31 ER in 72.2 IP) vs. the IronPigs this season. Pawtucket has out-scored Lehigh

Valley, 51-34.

Season Series

– The PawSox swept a pair at Lehigh Valley on April 14 & 15 (winning 13-1 and 6-5) in their first two road games of

the season. The IronPigs visited Pawtucket from April 22-24 and took 2 of 3 from the PawSox during that 3-game weekend set (Sox

won the opener, 6-5 but IronPigs won the next two by 7-4 & 5-3 scores). Earlier this month Pawtucket returned to Allentown and

came up with 2 wins in 3 tries. The Sox won on May 2, 8-3 before the Pigs evened matters with a 6-4 victory in 10-innings on May 3.

Pawtucket rallied for 2 runs in the 8

th

and 5 in the 9

th

to capture the rubber game of the series on May 4, 7-2. Pawtucket won’t be back

in Allentown for about 3 months…until a 3-game set on August 15-17.

A Winning Record vs. the IronPigs

– The IronPigs were the only team from the IL North that the PawSox did not have a losing

record against in 2015. Pawtucket finished 10-8 vs. the Pigs (4-4 at McCoy Stadium but going 6-4 at Lehigh Valley). The PawSox

posted winning records against Toledo (6-1), Indianapolis (4-2), and Gwinnett (4-2) last season but had losing records against every

other club besides those three and Lehigh Valley.

Against Lehigh Valley Lately

– The PawSox have reversed their fortunes against Lehigh Valley the past two seasons as Pawtucket

won the season-series over the IronPigs last year, 10-8 and in 2014, 11-5 after going 5-11 vs. Lehigh Valley in 2013.

7

th

Heaven

– Pawtucket’s 7-game winning streak from April 14-20 marked their longest since an 11-game winning streak from July

17-26 during the Governors’ Cup winning 2014 season. All 7 wins came during their first roadtrip - the last time they had won 7

consecutive road games also came during the 2014 season from July 13-26.

(3)

Climbing the Charts

– The PawSox are 4

th

the IL in Team Batting (.259) and they are 6

th

in the IL in Team Pitching (3.40 ERA).

The Champs No Longer

– Until last season, the Pawtucket Red Sox had qualified for the International League Playoffs for a

franchise-record four straight seasons (2011-2014) and had captured two Governors’ Cup Championships in a three-year span (2012

& 2014). However, for the first time in 25 years, the PawSox finished in last-place in their division in 2015 with a 59-85 record (-22

GB of division champ Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). Until last year the Sox had never finished in last-place since the IL East/North became

a 6-team division (the Sox did finish in last-place in 1990 when the IL East was just a 4-team division). Pawtucket also finished last

overall in the IL for the first time since 1989 (when the league consisted of just 8-teams).

BOSTON RED SOX DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM –

Portland (15-28)

The Portland Sea Dogs (AA) fell at Harrisburg, 6-5 last night. Luis Ysia (1-2) gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the

8

th

to suffer the loss. Rainel Rosario went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, Henry Ramos had 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Sean Coyle crushed a

2-run HR (#1 with the Sea Dogs).

Salem (30-14)

– The Salem Red Sox (A) dropped a 5-3 decision to Winston-Salem last night. Matt Kent (2-3) suffered the defeat – 6

IP, 11 H, 4 R. Mike Meyers was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Greenville (21-22)

– The Greenville Drive (A) were edged at Asheville, 3-2. Roniel Raudes turned in an outstanding start but

received a no-decision – 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 SO. Victor Diaz (1-4) allowed 3 runs over the final two innings and was dealt the

loss. Trent Kemp had 2 hits including an RBI double.

PAWSOX PLAYER MOVES

The Boston Red Sox today sent LHP

Eduardo Rodriguez

to Pawtucket on his second 30-day

injury rehab assignment (see more info on page 1). The PawSox yesterday placed OF

Allen Craig

on the 7-day disabled list (retro to

May 20) and today added INF

Jose Vinicio

from Double-A Portland.

Craig had been on the DL from April 14 – May 5 with an injury to his left side. He played in two games on May 17 & 19 (going

3-for-8 with 1 HR & 3 RBI) before being removed from the game late on May 19 in Buffalo.

Vinicio, 22, has been with Portland this season hitting .230 in 22 games with 1 HR & 4 RBI. The switch-hitter has played 12 games at

SS, 6 at 2B, and 3 at 3B. Signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent in July of 2009 – just three days after his 17

th

birthday –

he was the Gulf Coast League’s youngest player in 2010. Jose spent most of last season with Single-A Salem batting .294 in 57

games before suffering a season-ending injury in mid-July.

Pawtucket has already added 16 new players to their roster since Opening Night in less than seven weeks – rehabbing Christian

Vazquez (now in Boston), Wesley Wright, Mike Miller, Cole Sturgeon (now back in Portland), Rusney Castillo, Blake Swihart (now

in Boston), Jantzen Witte, Aaron Wilkerson (now back in Portland), Keith Couch (in Portland), Noe Ramirez, rehabbing Eduardo

Rodriguez, rehabbing Joe Kelly (back in Boston), Bryce Brentz, Mike McCarthy, Mitch Atkins (back in Portland), and Jose Vinicio.

Pawtucket has already sent 10 players to Boston since the start of the season. They include: Jeff Rutledge, Marco Hernandez (three

times), Heath Hembree, William Cuevas (back in Pawtucket), Noe Ramirez (three times but now back in Pawtucket), Roenis Elias

(back in Pawtucket), Henry Owens (back in Pawtucket), Pat Light (back in Pawtucket), and Sean O’Sullivan (back in Pawtucket). The

PawSox have 3 players currently on the disabled list - catcher Danny Bethea, OF Brennan Boesch, and reliever Jorge Marban.

Pawtucket made 220 player transactions last season. In 2014 they ended up with a total of 209 player transactions. The PawSox used

62 different players in 2015 (29 position players & 33 pitchers). The year before the Sox employed 61 different players during the

regular-season (34 position players & 27 pitchers). That number rose to 66 players including the post-season. The club-record is 70

different players set in both 1995 and 2006. Pawtucket sent 23 different players to Boston in 2015 compared to 25 players who were

promoted directly from Pawtucket to Boston in 2014.
