Process

1. Register for an Adobe ID (required to transfer/access eBooks on any portable device or eReader) 2. Download Adobe Digital Editions software to your computer and authorise it with your Adobe ID 3. Find the eBook you want on the eBook & Audiobook OverDrive Catalogue

4. Checkout 5. Download

Optional Step 6. Transfer eBooks to an eBook reader (Kobo, Sony etc. Please note: download to Kindle is not supported at this time)

1. Register for an Adobe ID

If you already have an Adobe ID, then skip this step and go straight to “2. Download and install Adobe  Digital Editions to your computer” (on page 2 of this document) 

 

To register for an Adobe ID, you’ll need an email address and have to register some details and create a password.

1. Visit https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html or

https://www.adobe.com/account/account-information.html (if these links do not work, visit

www.adobe.com and search for “adobe ID account”  … from search results, follow links to setting  your Adobe ID)

2. Click on “Don’t have an Adobe ID?”

3. Fill in the registration details in the spaces provided and click “Create”.

4. Adobe will confirm your registration immediately and log you into your new Adobe account where you can go back later and reset your Adobe ID and password if required. You will see that Adobe allows you to register other details about yourself e.g. address, screen name etc. Having to register these other details appears to be optional.

You will notice that your Adobe ID is simply the email address you registered and will be how you are

identified on Adobe.com and how you will gain access to your account, along with your password.

2. Download Adobe Digital Editions software to your computer

and authorise it with your Adobe ID

1. Visit http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions and click on download link (“Download now”) 2. Select download type according to whether you are using a PC or a Mac:

2. Download and install Adobe Digital Editions

When it is run on a PC, Adobe Digital Editions appears as shown below

3. Select ‘Help’ at the top of the screen, and then select “Authorize Computer” as shown below

3. Find the eBook you want on the eBook & Audiobook

OverDrive Catalogue

1. Go to http://sapln.lib.overdrive.com

2. Search for an eBook. There are various ways to find/search books you are interested in, as shown below.

4. Checkout (borrow) the book

1. Click “Add to cart” when you have found a title you would like. Then click “borrow” as shown below.

3. Then follow the prompts to sign in at the Sign-in page (shown at right). You will need to:

 Enter your full library card number

(if starts with an ‘X’, include X in your number)  Enter your library card PIN

 Select your library from drop down list … then click “Login”

4. You will then see the title on your ‘Bookshelf’. Notice also you can view information relating to ‘Holds’, ‘Lists’, ‘Settings’ (in here you can change lending periods), ‘Checkout limit’, ‘Titles checked out’ and ‘Checkouts remaining’…as shown below.

5. Download the book

In the image above, we have highlighted the ‘Download’ button with the red arrow. By selecting this, the book will be downloaded to your PC or Mac. If you are are prompted to ‘Save’ or ‘Open’ an “.acsm” file after clicking the ‘Download’ button, choose ‘Open’.

What if I chose "Save" and ended up downloading the ".acsm" file? How do I open my eBook? If you have Adobe Digital Editions installed, you can open the '.acsm' file as follows…

1.Right-click the '.acsm' file.

2.Select 'Open With', and choose 'Adobe Digital Editions'. 3.Click 'OK'

Adobe Digital Editions opens and downloads the eBook.

Optional Step 6. Transfer eBooks to an eBook reader (Kobo,

Sony etc.

Please note: download to Kindle eReader is not supported

1. Close Adobe Digital Editions on your computer before plugging your eReader device into your computer. 2. Plug in your device into your computer, and reopen Adobe Digital Editions.

3. The Adobe Digital Editions "Authorize Device" window will pop up. Click Authorize Device and enter your Adobe ID.

4. Adobe Digital Editions will now recognize your device, and will list it within the "Bookshelves" area of the Adobe Digital Editions window. Look for your device.

5. To move the eBook onto your device, simply drag and drop the book to your device (or when using a PC, you can also right-click the book cover and select “Copy to Computer/Device”, and then select the name of your device)

6. Disconnect your device from your PC (make sure you ‘eject’ properly rather than simply pull out the cable) 7. Enjoy reading your title on your device!
