Operations Manager (SCOM) components, including:

• The management server

• The Operations console

• Agent-managed computers

(15)

This file is shared with multiple Management Packs.

HP Device Monitor Console (DMC)

The HP Device Monitor Console (DMC) provides the user interface for connecting to the HP Device Monitor Service (DMS) to add or remove devices supported by management packs that use the DMS. For detailed information about the DMS and the servers and enclosures it monitors, see“HP Device Monitor Service (DMS)” (page 16).

NOTE: HP recommends that you launch only one instance of the DMC from the SCOM console at a time and that you do not have multiple DMC instances running simultaneously on the same computer.

The HP Device Monitor Console can be launched as a console task only if the DMC is installed on the computer that is running the Operations console.

NOTE: The DMC and the DMS replace the HP BladeSystem Enclosure Monitor Manager (EMM), and the HP BladeSystem Enclosure Monitor Service (EMS), which were included with 1.x versions of the HP BladeSystem Management Pack. If you plan to use any management pack that uses DMS, you must upgrade from HP BladeSystem Management Pack version 1.x (from EMM and EMS to DMC and DMS). For more information about this upgrade, see“Upgrading from 1.x versions of HP BladeSystem Management Pack” (page 20).

(16)

For detailed information about the DMC and DMS, see the HP Device Monitor for Microsoft System

Center User Guide.

HP Device Monitor Service (DMS)

The HP Device Monitor Service (DMS) allows the devices added using the DMC to be managed with HP management packs in SCOM. The devices supported by the following management packs must be registered with an instance of the DMS before they can be managed using the Operations console:

• HP ProLiant Agentless Management Pack

• HP ProLiant Linux Management Pack

• HP ProLiant VMware Management Pack

• HP BladeSystem Management Pack

• HP Virtual Connect Management Pack

The DMS feature is installed on one or more agent-managed Windows servers that have been identified to perform monitoring of the devices supported by the management packs listed earlier in this section. This feature can optionally be installed on Hyper-V virtual machines. By configuring virtual machines with Windows Failover Clustering, the availability of the DMS is increased in the case of a cluster node failure.

You access a DMS using the DMC, or, optionally, using PowerShell scripts provided by HP. See

“HP Device Monitor Console (DMC)” (page 15).

For detailed information about the DMC and DMS, see the HP Device Monitor for Microsoft System

Center User Guide.

Tools

The Tools feature includes the HP Custom Data Manager (CDM). This tool can be used to store user-specified information on supported HP ProLiant servers managed by SCOM. Instructions for using the CDM are described in the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack for Microsoft System

Center User Guide.

The Tools feature can be installed on computers that are running the Operations console.

The CDM can be launched as a console task only if the Tools feature is installed on the computer that is running the Operations console.

The CDM requires the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack.

(17)

Installing HP SCOM features

Installation and upgrade considerations

NOTE: Ensure that the SCVMM 2012 Console Integration Kit is not installed on the target computer when installing the HP Device Monitor Service computer.

If you have previous versions of HP SCOM features installed on your server, read the considerations in this section before you begin the installation.

NOTE: Upgrading or installing an instance of DMS may take several minutes to install the components and for upgrades to complete the data migration.

IMPORTANT: HP recommends that you complete this installation at a time when the server running the software you are upgrading can be stopped, such as during a scheduled maintenance period:

• In rare cases, the server must be restarted at the end of the upgrade procedure.

• When upgrading an instance of the DMS, HP BladeSystem enclosures and servers managed by that DMS might not be available in SCOM until the upgrade process is complete and servers and enclosures managed by the DMS have been discovered and monitored.

• When migrating from the EMS, management for HP BladeSystem enclosures might not be available in SCOM until the migration process is complete and enclosures managed by the DMS have been discovered and monitored.

• Close all applications, including these applications:

The Operations console (if it is installed on this computer).

The DMC (if it is installed on this computer)

The Windows NT event viewer

PowerShell windows that are running cmdlets provided by HP

HP BladeSystem Management Pack, version 1.x

If a 1.x version of the HP BladeSystem Management Pack is installed, see“Upgrading from 1.x versions of HP BladeSystem Management Pack” (page 20)before starting this procedure.

HP ProLiant Linux and VMware Management Pack

Beginning with HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center 7.0, the HP ProLiant Linux and VMware Management Pack is not supported. It has been replaced by two separate management packs: the HP ProLiant Linux Management Pack and the HP ProLiant VMware Management Pack. If you have the HP ProLiant Linux and VMware Management Pack that was included with HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center 6.3 installed, there are extra steps to perform after you have installed and imported the management packs included with later versions of HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center. See“Step 14” (page 20).

Other management packs

If previous versions of other management packs are installed and imported in SCOM, these management packs are upgraded when you import the latest versions into SCOM;

previously-installed management packs that have already been imported do not need to be deleted or removed.

(18)

DMS, DMC, and tools

If previous versions of the DMS, DMC, or tools are installed, they are upgraded automatically when you install newer versions of HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center. When you upgrade a DMS to a newer version, information about the enclosures and servers it manages is preserved. You do not have to migrate enclosures or servers.

Installing the HP SCOM Management Packs

Follow this procedure to install the HP SCOM Management Packs: 1. Ensure that the prerequisites are met for the following features:

Management Packs

• This is the Management Server or this computer has the Operations console installed Tools

NOTE: HP BladeSystem enclosures monitored using a previously-installed Enclosure Monitoring Service (EMS) are not available in the DMS until you migrate them in the next step.

2. Optional: Migrate HP BladeSystem enclosures monitored using the previously-installed EMS to the new DMS. The following options for enclosure migration are available:

• Use the DMC to add the enclosures to be migrated to the DMS manually. Adding enclosures to a DMS is described in the HP Device Monitor for Microsoft System Center

User Guide.

• Use PowerShell cmdlets, available with the DMS, to add enclosures to be migrated to the DMS. Adding enclosures to a DMS using the available PowerShell cmdlets is described in the HP Device Monitor for Microsoft System Center User Guide.

• Use the migration tool included with the HP SCOM Management Packs to migrate existing data from each EMS to a local or remote DMS server. See“Using the HP BladeSystem Migration Tool” (page 21).

3. Install the HP SCOM Management Packs feature (described in“Installing and managing the HP SCOM Management Packs” (page 14))

4. Import the 2.x version of the HP BladeSystem Management Pack into SCOM.

5. Optional: Remove the EMS by uninstalling the 1.x version of the HP BladeSystem Management Pack (listed in the control panel as HP Blade Management Pack for MS) from the computer. Do not delete the HP BladeSystem management pack from SCOM.

Using the HP BladeSystem Migration Tool

The HP BladeSystem Migration Tool is a command-line executable file that detects enclosures monitored by the local EMS and copies all information to the DMS you specify (local or remote). Use this tool when upgrading from a 1.x version of the HP BladeSystem Management Pack to a 2.x version.

The HP BladeSystem Migration Tool must be executed using the LocalSystem account. HP recommends using the PSExec.exe tool, part of Microsoft SysInternals PS Tools, to run the migration tool using the LocalSystem account.

The HPBladeMigration.exe file is in the installation-path\HP Device Monitor Service\ folder, where installation-path is the location specified in the installer when you installed the DMS.

To migrate managed enclosures from the EMS to a DMS, perform the following steps for each installed EMS:

1. From the command prompt, execute the HP BladeSystem Migration Tool

(HPBladeMigration.exe) using the LocalSystem account. The PSExec.exe tool must be executed using an account that has Administrator privileges. Example:

C:\MyUtils>psexec -s "C:\Program Files\HP SCOM Management Packs\HP

Device Monitor Service\HPBladeMigration.exe"

NOTE: Enclosures monitored by the EMS may be migrated to a DMS that is installed remotely by specifying the address of the remote server and credentials for accessing the DMS. Example: C:\MyUtils>psexec -s “C:\Program Files\HP SCOM Management Packs\HP

Device Monitor Service\HPBladeMigration.exe” -address:192.168.51.107 -username:mydomain\Administrator -password:mypassword

2. The BladeSystem Migration Tool lists the enclosures monitored by this EMS and asks whether to migrate the selected enclosures.

To migrate the selected enclosures, enter Yes.

NOTE: If you select No, the migration tool exits.

The migration tool does not allow you to select individual enclosures to migrate.

3. The tool migrates the enclosures configuration information from the EMS to the DMS.

When the migration is complete, the tool asks you to use the DMC to confirm that the enclosures are listed.

For information about this step, see the HP Device Monitor for Microsoft System Center User

Guide.

TIP: Enclosure migration fails if the DMS is unable to connect to an enclosure during the migration process. Check the connection for enclosures that have not migrated successfully and attempt the migration again.

This example shows sample output for the HP BladeSystem Migration Tool when migrating data from an EMS to a DMS on a different server.

Retry option in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 Installer does

not work

If required files are still in use when upgrading the SCOM Kit, the Retry option may not verify a second time for files in use. Instead, the installer will proceed with the upgrade even if the identified files remain in use. This issue is seen in Windows installer 5.0 version. For Windows installer 4.0 version the Retry option will work as expected.

This issue can be resolved with the following Microsoft Hotfix:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/ 2649868

Required services failed to start after an upgrade or fresh install of the

Possible resolutions:

• Manually restart the required services using the NET START HPDeviceMonitorService command.

• Uninstall Device Monitor Service from the target system.
